Rauw Alejandro Earns 7th No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart with “Cúrame”

Rauw Alejandro has found a chart-topping cure…

The 29-year-old Puerto Rican singer and rapper has reached the top of Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart as “Cúrame” lifts 7-1 in its 17th week to lead the March 5-dated ranking.

Rauw AlejandroWith the chart-topping move, the Greatest Gainer song of the week gifts Rauw Alejandro his seventh No. 1 among a collection of 17 entries.

He previously took over atop the chart with the Latin pop hit and three-week ruler “Todo de Ti” (between July, August and December 2021), the longest the Puerto Rican reigned on the charts with a song. The latter has held steady in the list’s top 10 for 38 weeks during its 40-week term and counting (currently at No. 5).

With a 17-week trek to the top, “Cúrame” joins a group of two other songs that have completed the slow-but-steady journey to the top in 2022 so far.

Jhay Cortez and Anuel AA’s “Ley Seca” took 19 weeks to arrive at No. 1 on the February 5-dated survey. Karol G’s “Sejodioto” also crossed the barrier in its 17th week.

“Cúrame” knocks Romeo Santos’ “Huellas” from its one-week reign (dips to No. 2) with 9.19 million in audience impressions, up 58%, earned in the week ending February 27, according to MRC Data. It’s the biggest percentage gain of the week, ahead of Raymix’s latest single “Te Voy a Conquistar,” with NZO, which debuts at No. 42 with a 43% gain.

“Cúrame” is the sixth single from Rauw’s two-week champ Vice Versa, his second studio album and first No. 1 on Top Latin Albums (July 10, 2021-dated chart). The new No. 1 arrives after the Puerto Rican released the EP Trap Cake Vol. 2 on February 25, the follow-up to the EP’s first volume in 2019 (the latter set has not entered the charts).

Beyond its Latin Airplay coronation, “Cúrame” rises 4-1 on Latin Rhythm Airplay, where it also follows “Todo de Ti” as his seventh chart-topper.

Nicky Jam to Bring “Rockstar Show” to Billboard Latin Music Week, with Jhay Cortez as Special Guest

Nicky Jam is bringing his (Rockstar) Show on the road…

The 40-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American will bring his talk show Rockstar Show live to Billboard Latin Music Week, and he’s booked Jhay Cortez as his special guest.

The intimate experience is set to take place on September 22 exclusively for Billboard Latin Music Week registrants, with capacity limited.

Nicky Jam’s talk show, his passion project, launched in January with Maluma as his first guest.

Daddy Yankee, Karol G and Nicky Jam are also confirmed for Billboard’s 2021 Latin Music Week, returning to Miami in September with a weeklong event that unites the top Latin hitmakers, influencers and industry leaders, and features live performances and conversations with superstars.

Latin Music Week will feature one-of-a-kind performances, panels, conversations and more with the aforementioned artists. Karol G will take center stage in The Superstar Q&A on September 21 for an in-depth conversation about her career, music, love and upcoming projects.

On September 22, fans will get up close and personal with Yankee as he discusses his 25-year career that launched reggaetón around the world in the second installment of The Superstar Q&A. The Puerto Rican hitmaker is also set to perform for a Billboard En Vivo concert that night at the Faena Forum exclusive to Billboard Latin Music Week registrants.

Other recently announced panels include “My Cause, My Music: A Conversation on Social Justice” with Cuban artist/activist Yotuel Romero, Puerto Rican star Kany García and ChocQuibTown members (and husband and wife) Goyo and Tostao; “Making the Hit, Live” masterclass with Lunay and his longtime producers Chris Jedi and Gaby Music; and “Regional No More– Mexican Music Goes Global” with Eslabon Armado, Los Dos Carnales and Carin Leon, which is moderated by Rancho Humilde‘s Jimmy Humilde.

For the first time, Billboard will launch a virtual streaming experience in partnership with LIVENow, offering viewing opportunities to international audiences. Passes for the livestream can now be purchased here. The star-studded 2021 Latin Music Week lineup also includes participation by García, Anitta, Elena Rose, Myke Towers, Rauw Alejandro, Esteman, Raymix, and Tainy, with more to be announced in the coming weeks.

Under the slogan “The Beat of Latin Music,” making its mark as the longest running and biggest Latin music industry gathering in the world, this year’s event will continue through the end of the week as Billboard launches its En Vivo concert series.

The 34-year-old Dominican singer and songwriter will be taking part in a special talk entitled “There’s No Hood Like Motherhood” at this year’s Billboard Latin Music Week.

Returning to Miami in September, the weeklong event unites the top Latin hitmakers, influencers and industry leaders, and features live performances and conversations with superstars.

Natti Natasha will appear alongside Telemundo’s Adamari López for a candid conversation on wellness, babies and superstardom.

The “Antes Que Salga El Sol” singer gave birth to her first child, a baby girl named Vida Isabelle, in May with longtime manager and fiancé Raphy Pina of Pina Records.

Recently announced panels include the “Mano a Mano” panel with Rauw Alejandro and Myke Towers, during which both chart-topping artists will discuss new projects, upcoming tours and the challenges and advantages for the new wave of reggaetón artists; “Making the Hit, Live” masterclass with Lunay and his longtime producers Chris Jedi and Gaby Music; and the “Coming Out Latin” panel with Raymix, Esteman, Erika Vidrio and Johnny Caz of Grupo Firme for an insightful and heartfelt conversation on the challenges and rewards of coming out as a Latin music act.

The 29-year-old Colombian-Canadian singer and Grammy nominee will perform at this year’s Billboard Latin Music Awards, which are less than a month away.

Reyez joins a roster of newly confirmed A-list artists set to perform at the Billboard awards show.

Reyez joins a roster of new additions to the lineup that includes Anuel AA, Banda MS, Carlos Vives, Chesca, Daddy Yankee, Kendo Kaponi, Luis Fonsi, Manuel Turizo, Pablo Alborán, Paulina Rubio, Pitbull, Rauw Alejandro, Raymix, Reik, and Yandel.

They join the previously announced performers Armando Manzanero, Black Eyed Peas, Farruko, Gente de Zona, Gerardo Ortiz, Jesse & Joy, Maluma, Myke Towers, Ozuna, Sech, and Wisin.

The 2020 BLMAs, led by top finalists Bad Bunny and Ozuna, are the only awards show to honor the most popular albums, songs, and performers in Latin music, the awards are determined by the actual sales, streaming, radio airplay, and social data that informs Billboard‘s weekly charts during a one-year period from the rankings dated February 2, 2019, through this year’s January 25 charts.

The event is coinciding with Billboard’s Latin Music Week 30th anniversary, a three-day virtual experience dedicated to Latin music, culture, and entertainment, The Billboard Latin Music Awards 2020 will broadcast live from the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida on October 21 via Telemundo.

Vanessa Zamora to Perform at the First-Ever Edition of OutMusik Festival on National Coming Out Day

The 29-year-old Mexican singer, songwriter and composer will celebrate National Coming Out Day by taking part in the first-ever edition of OutMusik Festival.

In addition to Zamora, the list of performers set to take the stage on October 11 include Georgel, Javiera Mena, Zemmoa, Mabiland and Christian Chavez, among others.

The virtual festival will feature artists who form part of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as allies who’ll be sending motivational messages to the community.

Georgel, Raymix and Esteman will serve as hosts of the first OutMusik Fest.

“I didn’t grow up with openly and well represented LGBTQ+ icons to identify with in mainstream media, which a lot of times led me to feel like I didn’t exist or this life wasn’t  worth living,” Georgel tells Billboard. “OutMusik represents an evolved world as I perceive it, a platform where LGBTQ+ artists express their truth through performance and audiences feel represented.”

“Music is a powerful medium to tell stories and send messages that tell our reality,” adds Esteman. “The more visible our stories, we won’t have to put labels and instead celebrate who we are.”

Presenters and allies who will be of the celebration include Karol G, Chiquis, Maite Perroni, Lila Downs, Francisca Valenzuela and Gepe.

The festival will be streamed on the website OutMusik.Com, which will remain post-festival and will serve as a resource center for the LGBTQ+ community. Access to the live stream will be free but viewers will have the option of donating.

Proceeds will go toward to organizations It Gets Better and The Trevor Project.

Raymix Releases New Electrocumbia Single “Llámame”

Raymix is feelin’ some kind of way…

The 29-year-old Mexican singer-songwriter has released his new single “Llámame,” a playful electrocumbia track that finds him experiencing a roller coaster of emotions while out with a group of friends.

In “Llámame,” released along with a music video, Raymix is crushing hard on his friend and wondering if he’s feeling the same. The story’s unexpected twist will keep you on the edge of your seat so you’ll have to watch until the very end.

The video was filmed in Mexico City and directed by Raymix’s brother Pablo Gómez Moreno. It’s the first time Raymix, who came out as gay in June, features a man as his love interest in a music video.

“It’s time to be courageous though I understand it takes time and it’s not easy,” Raymix previously told Billboard. “We should modernize our music too because cumbia can fall under two categories, urban and regional Mexican, both with heteronormative standards of masculinity. We see the typical macho guys all the time.”

He continued, “Why not change the game? You don’t know how happy I am for doing what I did and for my new team to support me. They played a huge role in this. Here I am, showing the world that we can and should evolve. The most important thing is to be happy.”

Raymix Signs Global Deal with Universal Music Publishing

The 27-year-old Mexican Electrocumbia artist has signed a global deal with Universal Music Publishing.

Raymix’s “Oye Mujer” is currently no. 9 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart.

Trained as an aerospace engineer, Raymix, whose real name is Edmundo Gonzalez Moreno, was working at NASA when he began experimenting with electronic music.

“Oye Mujer” took off virally — the video know has over 300 million views on YouTube— before landing in the Billboard Top Ten. The track is also no. 2 this week on the Tropical Songs chart, where it peaked in the no. 1 slot.

Ozuna & J Balvin Lead the Pack of Latin American Music Awards Nominees with Nine Each

Ozuna and J Balvin are the men of the hour…

The 26-year-old Puerto Rican reggaeton and Latin trap singer and the 33-year-old Colombian reggaeton singer lead the list of nominees for the 2018 Latin American Music Awards (Latin AMAs) with nine nods each.

Close behind is Nicky Jam with eight nods; Daddy Yankee with six; Bad Bunny, Banda MS de Sergio Lizárraga and Christian Nodal with five; and Luis Fonsi, Maluma, Romeo Santos, Shakira and Wisin with four nods each.

In the tradition of the American Music Awards (AMAs), the Latin AMAs pay tribute to the top Latin artists in the market today with fans voting for the ultimate winners.

In terms of nominations, 10 artists are up for artist of the year: Bad Bunny, Banda MS de Sergio Lizárraga, Christian Nodal, Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, Luis Fonsi, Maluma, Nicky Jam, Ozuna and Shakira.

Ozuna and Balvin are also both up for favorite artist-male, favorite artist, urban and favorite album-urban and album of the year for Odisea and Vibras, respectively. In addition, Ozuna is up for song of the year and favorite song-urban for “Escápate Conmigo,” his hit with Wisin. “Me Niego,” by Reik featuring Ozuna and Wisin is up for favorite song –pop, and “Sobredosis,” by Romeo Santos featuring Ozuna is up for favorite song – tropical.

On his end, Balvin’s “Mi Gente” with Willy William featuring Beyonce is up for song of the year and favorite song-urban, while “X” by J Balvin with Nicky Jam is up for song of the year and favorite song-urban.

This year’s new artist of the year category is particularly competitive, with Bad Bunny, Manuel Turizo, Raymix and Sebastian Yatra vying for the award.

The Latin AMAs honors artists in pop/rock, regional Mexican, urban, and tropical genres. Nominees are based on key fan interactions with music, including sales, airplay, streaming and social activity tracked by Billboard through its data partners Nielsen Music and Next Big Sound for data covering the periods of Aug. 11, 2017 through Aug. 9, 2018. Winners are decided by fan votes.

The Latin AMAs are scheduled to air live October 25 on Telemundo from The Dolby Theater in Hollywood.

Jenn Morel Signs Joint Venture with Aftercluv & Universal Latino

It’s a new deal for Jenn Morel…

The 26-year-old Dominican singer and songwriter, who is starting to make a name for herself in the music industry, has signed a joint venture with Aftercluv and Universal Latino, according to Billboard.

The LA-based singer got her start in the music business as a professional dancer in videos for Drake, Nicki Minaj and Trey Songz. In 2017, she kicked off her singing career with the catchy song “Ponteme,” which made her a hot new artist in Europe, especially in Italy, where she had several sold-out events.

Now, with the mission of taking her music to an international level, Morel has signed a joint venture with Aftercluv, the dance entertainment division of Universal Music Latin America that has artists like Raymix and Juan Magan.

Both labels firmly believe in a long-term career for Jenn and will work together to bring music lovers a multicultural project that will progressively develop in two worlds: Latin and Anglo.

“I am very happy to have the full support of UMLE,” she said in a press statement. “I feel safe with the unique vision and structure that this union brings between Aftercluv and Universal Latino and I am super excited for everything that is to come.”

Currently, Morel is working on a “Ponteme” remix and an EP with new music.
