Salaz to Star Opposite Alfonso Herrera on Fox’s Drama Pilot “Urban Cowboy”

Bryana Salaz, is ready to honky tonk her way onto the small screen.

The 18-year-old Latina singer/actress, a contestant on Season 7 of NBC’s The Voice, has landed a series regular role opposite Alfonso Herrera and Jim Belushi in Fox’s drama pilot Urban Cowboy.

The project is beild hailed as a modern, Latin music-fueled reimagining of the 1980 Paramount Pictures film starring John Travolta and Debra Winger.

Urban Cowboy follows star-crossed young lovers Kyle aka Juan Miguel (Herrera) and Gaby as they pursue their dreams and passions through the sweat of line dancing in honky tonks, the grime of the oil refineries and the glamour of modern Texas.

Salaz will play Anita, Kyle’s (Herrera) sister who flees with her brother to the US after he upsets the local drug cartel.

Salaz, kike Herrera and Belushi, has a music background. She finished in the Top 5 of Team Gwen on The Voice, with her early-round performances going viral online.

Salaz’s “Problem” blind audition has garnered more than 2.1 million views, while her Knockouts rendition of “Heart Attack” has amassed more than 3.1 million streams.

Maldonado & Pentatonix Release Cover of Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be”

It looks like Kirstie Maldonado has another smash hit cover on her hands…

The half-Mexican American/part-Spanish artist and her fellow Pentatonix group mates have released another catchy reinterpretation.

The Streamy Award-winning a capella group’s upcoming EP, PTX Vol. III, comes out on September 23, and as a tease, their cover of Clean Bandit‘s “Rather Be” has made its way online.

Pentatonix, the winners of NBC‘s singing competition The Sing-Off in 2011, sticks to what they do best in their latest song, and it’s another hit for Maldonado, Scott Hoying, Mitch Grassi, Avi Kaplan and beatboxer Kevin Olusola.

“We’re huge fans of Clean Bandit, and we’re so excited to be covering this!” Grassi told People about the song off PTX Vol. III, which also includes an already-released cover of “Problem” by Ariana Grande.

The half-Mexican American/part-Spanish artist and her fellow Pentatonix members have released a new cover, proving there’s really nothing the quintet can’t sing.

The a capella group, who won NBC‘s singing competition The Sing-Off in 2011, shared a video of them performing their rendition of Ariana Grande‘s summer jam “Problem.”

Maldonado and the gang perform every part of the hit track with Kevin Olusola showing off his impressive beat-boxing skill. Meanwhile, Mitch Grassi spits the verses originally performed by Iggy Azalea in the original.

“Problem” is the lead single off Grande’s upcoming sophomore album, My Everything. The 21-year-old singer has responded to Pentatonix’s cover on Twitter, saying”Omg y’all. my favs. been waiting! better SING i love u,” she wrote.

Pentatonix is currently working on two projects that the group plans to release this fall. Earlier this month, they announced their new EP called PTX, Vol. III will arrive in  stores on September 23, marking their first project to be released by RCA Records. It will feature covers of hits and original tracks.

The EP will be followed by their second holiday album, That’s Christmas to Me, which is coming out on October 21. It will include a combination of classic holiday tracks, modern favorites and a one-of-a-kind holiday mash-up.

Starting Thursday, fans can vote in VMA categories by visiting vma.mtv.com. Nominees for best lyric video, which will be voted on through social media, will be announced at a later date. Voting for MTV Artist to Watch will be done via text messaging to 22444 with the nominee’s name.

The MTV VMAs air live from The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., on Sunday, August 24, at 9:00 pm ET, with previously announced performances fromAriana Grande, Usher and 5 Seconds of Summer. Additional performers will be announced later.
