Romeo Santos Reaches No. 1 on Billboard’s Tropical Airplay Chart with Rosalia-Collab “El Pañuelo”

Romeo Santos is back at the top of the charts…

The 41-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American singer has logged a new career No. 1 on Billboard’s Tropical Airplay chart as his Rosalia-collab “El Pañuelo” rules the February 4-dated ranking.

Romeo Santos & RosaliaThe song rises 3-1 with 9.9 million audience impressions, an 8% gain, earned in the U.S. in the week ending Jan. 26, according to Luminate.

Rosalía scores her third straight No. 1, and second through a bachata single. Thanks to “El Pañuelo,” Santos becomes the fourth artist to accumulate at least 18 No. 1s since Tropical Airplay chart launched in 1994. He joins Marc Anthony, who leads with 35, followed by Victor Manuelle (29), and Prince Royce (22).

The new No. 1 also marks the 10th time a pair-up comprising a female and a male on lead role has reached No. 1 since the chart’s inception.

Further, Santos also unlocks another achievement on the current chart: “Solo Conmigo,” his latest single, takes the Greatest Gainer award, rising 19-12 with a lofty 310% gain in audience, to 2 million.

Plus, “Sin Fin,” with Justin Timberlake, holds at No. 9 for a second week (after its previous No. 1 debut last September), while “Siri,” with Chris Lebron, dips 18-22.

All songs are on Santos’ latest album, Formula, Vol. 3, which crowned Tropical Albums for 15 weeks.

Beyond its Tropical Airplay coronation, “El Pañuelo” bests its previous Latin Airplay ranking with a 3-2 jump.

Boza Signs with Loud and Live & Tesa Entertainment as First Artist of Their Global Partnership

Boza is doubling down…

The Panamanian singer-songwriter has signed with marketing and media company Loud and Live and booking agency Tesa Entertainment.

BozaThe two companies signed a global partnership deal that includes “exclusive touring and booking rights,” according to a press release, with efforts to “elevate the Latin urban genre to the next level.”

Boza, who broke out in 2020 with his hit song “Hecha Pa’ Mí” and was nominated for best new artist at the 2021 Latin Grammys, is the first artist signed under the deal.

“We’re very happy with the evolution we’ve had with Boza, and we believe that this partnership will continue to help develop our artist’s career in a positive way,” said Boza’s managers Alberto Gaitan and Andrés Castro. “We’re proud to become part of the Loud and Live and Tesa family.”

“For me, it’s an honor to become part of Boza’s growth, moving forward,” said Giovanna Pérez, CEO and founder of Tesa Entertainment. “Unity is strength and with this new partnership deal alongside Loud And Live, we’ll complement each other perfectly with resources that will offer the Artist the best live show experience globally.”

Launched in 2017, the Miami-based Loud and Live has enjoyed a strong return to touring in 2021, with more than 400 shows and tours for clients including Carlos Vives, Ruben Blades, Camilo and Prince Royce. Tesa Entertainment was founded in 2021 by Pérez, previously at Rich Music and CMN, after working with artists such as Nicky Jam, Sech and Manuel Turizo.

Maluma Releases New Single with Adam Levine & The Rudeboyz

Maluma is hoping to heal…

The 28-year-old Colombian singer, songwriter and actor has joined voices with Adam Levine and The Rudeboyz to release the highly anticipated single “Ojalá.”

Maluma, Adam Levine, The RudeboyzThe sultry reggaeton track features the Maroon 5 frontman and former The Voice coach singing in Spanish for the first time.

The new song — produced by Maluma’s longtime collaborators The Rudeboyz — finds the Colombian star and Levine trading verses about losing a girl and getting over the heartbreak. They both declare: It won’t be easy getting over them.

“Ojalá” is the debut single from The Rudeboyz’s upcoming debut album.

The track arrived alongside a music video directed by Diane Martel via NEON16 & Sony Music Latin.

The three-minute clip starts off with Chan El Genio and Kevin ADG (The Rudeboyz) listening to an “incredible” beat they just produced and say, “What if we can get Maluma and Adam Levine on this song, we’d kill it. Can you imagine? That would be a dream.”

The artists first announced the collaboration on October 14 via social media. Levine teased a 20-second clip of the upbeat track on his TikTok page, captioning the post, “#Ojala @RUDEBOYZ @Juan Luis.”

Maluma shared the snippet to his Instagram Stories and as a post, writing on one story, “What do you think about this?” Meanwhile, The Rudeboyz wrote, “A very important release for us with people we admire a lot!!  Keep your eyes on this !! @maluma @adamlevine.”

Back in June, Levine had already hinted at a possible collaboration with Maluma. He posted a photo of them on Instagram of the two hanging out in a studio and wrote, “World ain’t ready.”

The Rudeboyz, who were recently signed by Tainy‘s NEON16, have produced hits for artists such as Shakira, Sech, Jennifer Lopez, Prince Royce and Sebastián Yatra, among others.

One of Jennifer Lopez’s biggest hits is flooring it…

The 53-year-old Puerto Rican superstar’s club anthem “On the Floor” with Pitbull has surpassed two billion views on YouTube.

Jennifer LopezThe nightclub-set clip for J. Lo and Pit’s 2011 hit has averaged more than 500K views per day so far in 2022, according to the video streaming platform. 

The track scored the pair another entry on the Billboard Hot 100 as it peaked at No. 3 on the tally dated May 21, 2011.

“On the Floor” is one of the handful of collaborations between la Lopez and Pitbull.

The pair have struck gold with other songs like “Dance Again,” “Back It Up” with Prince Royce, and the official 2014 World Cup song “We Are One (Ole Ola)” with Brazilian star Claudia Leitte.

Produced by RedOne, the song thrives on a hypnotic beat, with Pitbull dropping by for a rapid-fire verse that rhymes “badonkadonk” with “Donkey Kong.”

Lopez’s sweet yet commanding vocals take centerstage during the chorus where she sings “La la la la la la la la la la la la la la. Tonight we gon’ be it on the floor.”

The track samples French-Brazilian pop group Kaoma’s 1988 song “Lambada,” a global hit that went on to top Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart in March of 1990.  As a result of the sample, the “Lambada” reappeared on the Billboard charts more than 20 years after its global domination. It made its debut on the World Digital Songs chart at No. 3 in March of that year, a few weeks after “On the Floor” came out.

Romeo Santos has another chart-topping album on his resume…

The 41-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American singer-songwriter, known as The King of Bachata, is back at No. 1 on Billboard’s Tropical Albums chart as his latest LP, Fórmula, Vol. 3, tops the September 17-dated ranking — rising from its No. 8 debut a week earlier from less than one day of activity.

The album was released September 1 at 11:00 pm ET via Sony Music Latin, — one hour before most albums are typically released. (The September 17-dated chart reflects activity for the album in the September 2-8 tracking period, while the September 10 chart covered the August 25-September 1 frame.)

Fórmula, Vol. 3 rallies 8-1 in its second chart week with 26,000 equivalent album units earned in the U.S. in the week ending September 8, according to Luminate.

The majority of the set’s sum derives from streaming-equivalent album units (23,000), equating 33.1 million official on-demand streams of the album’s songs. Three-thousand of the remaining total belongs to traditional album sales (2,000) and track-equivalent album units (1,000).

On the multimetric Tropical Albums chart as measured in equivalent album units, each unit equals one album sale, or 10 individual tracks sold from an album, or 3,750 ad-supported or 1,250 paid/subscription on-demand official audio and video streams generated by songs from an album.

Fórmula, Vol. 3 completes the Fórmula trilogy and lands slightly a decade after its maiden effort, Fórmula, Vol. 1, rose to No. 1 in its second week, where it held for 33 weeks (starting Nov. 26, 2011). Meanwhile, follow-up full-length Vol. 2 lifted 7-1 also in its second week to crown Tropical Albums for 116 weeks, the second-most (trailing Santos’ own Todavía Me Amas: Los Mejor de Aventura; 170 at No. 1) since the chart’s inception in 1985.

Further, Santos replaces himself at No. 1, sending Vol. 2 to No. 3, while Todavía Me Amas holds in the runner-up slot. Plus, the complete Fórmula series holds a spot in the chart’s top five, with Vol. 1 jumping 5-4 on the current chart.

 Vol. 3 gives Santos his sixth straight No. 1 on Tropical Albums. He ties with India and Prince Royce for the fourth-most among tropical soloists.

Elsewhere, Fórmula, Vol. 3 debuts at No. 2 on the overall Top Latin Albums ranking, his sixth consecutive top 10 there. It’s his first chart appearance since Utopía launched at No. 1 in 2019.

It also opens at No. 10 on the overall Billboard 200, his fourth top 10 there and first top-tier visit since 2017 (Golden, No. 10 debut and peak).

Manuel Turizo’s “La Bachata” Rises to No. 1 on Billboard’s Tropical Airplay Chart

Manuel Turizo has another tropical hit… 

The 22-year-old Colombian reggaeton singer has logged his second No. 1 on Billboard’s Tropical Airplay chart — and first as a lead artist — with “La Bachata,” which rises from No. 4 to lead the August 6-dated ranking.

“La Bachata,” released May 26 via La Industria/Sony Music Latin, collected 5.6 million in audience impressions in the U.S. in the week ending July 31, according to Luminate, up 18% gain from the week prior.

The new champ is another achievement for La Industria imprint, which claims its first No. 1 on Tropical Airplay among four titles, dating back to its first placement in 2015 with the No. 17 high “Travesuras” by Nicky Jam. Since then, the label has placed two other top 10s, also by Nicky Jam: “El Perdón” with Enrique Iglesias (No. 5, 2015) and “Hasta El Amanecer” (No. 6, 2016).

With the single’s 4-1 move, Turizo glides to the top for a second time. He previously spent time at the summit as a featured act on Piso 21’s “Déjala Que Vuelva,” which dominated for two weeks in 2018, before Tropical Airplay changed from being station-based to strictly a genre-based chart.

“La Bachata” is the third bachata track by a non-traditional tropical artist to rule Tropical Airplay in 2022, after Rosalía’s “La Fama,” featuring The Weeknd, and Prince Royce and Maria Becerra’s “Te Espero” topped the list for two weeks each during the May 14 through June 4-dated recaps. In total, four bachata songs have landed at No. 1 this year: Romeo Santos joins the group with the 10-week champ “Sus Huellas” (starting the February 26-dated ranking).

Beyond Turizo’s new coronation, he claims his highest ranking on the all-genre Latin Airplay tally in more than a year: The song rallies 20-12, the same position he last held when “Amor en Coma,” with Maluma, peaked at No. 12 in July 2021.

In addition to its airplay gain, “La Bachata” also improves on the all-metric Hot Latin Songs chart, entering the top 25 (32-25), with a 22% increase in streams. The song generated 1.99 U.S. streams in the U.S. in the week ending July 28.

Gente de Zona Earns First No. 1 in Five Years on Billboard Tropical Airplay Chart with “Soy Yo,” Featuring Wisin & Don Omar

Gente de Zona has made a triumphant return to the top of the Billboard Tropical Airplay chart…

“Soy Yo,” the first collaboration between the Cuban reggaeton duo comprised of musicians Alexander Delgado and Randy Malcom, Wisin and Don Omar, has reached the summit of the Tropical Airplay chart dated July 9.

Gente de Zona“Soy Yo” tops the list with a 17% increase in audience impressions, to 8.03 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending July 3, according to Luminate (rising 2-1).

It trades places with Prince Royce and Maria Becerra’s “Te Espero” after its four-nonconsecutive-week reign (with 5.8 million impressions and a 24% dip).

“Soy Yo” becomes the first No. 1 for Gente de Zona in over five years, since “La Mala y La Buena,” with Alex Sensation, placed the Cubans in the penthouse in February 2017 for two weeks.

In between, the duo scored 20 entries — among those, a collection of 10 top 10s — including “A Mi Manera,” with Dale Pututi, Jacob Forever, featuring Baby Lores, Eddy K, Los 4, El Chacal, El Micha, El Chulo, which debuts at No. 24 on the current chart.

Don Omar and Wisin, meanwhile, clock their 10th and fifth champ, respectively.

For Don Omar, “Soy Yo” grants him a second No. 1 via his new label Saban Music after a more than eight-year hiatus on the chart. Prior to the nine-week champ “Se Menea,” with Nio García (December 2021), Don Omar scored eight chart-toppers, his last one in April 2021 (“Dutty Love,” with Natti Natasha).

“Soy Yo’s” coronation returns Saban Music to the top of Tropical Airplay. Chencho Corleone Earns First No. 1 in a Lead Role on a Billboard Radio Chart with “Desesperados” with Rauw Alejandro

Chencho Corleone has earned a special first…

The 43-year-old Puerto Rican singer, composer and actor has earned his first No. 1 in a lead role on a Billboard radio chart as “Desesperados,” with Rauw Alejandro, tops the Latin Airplay chart dated July 2.

Chencho Corleone“Desesperados,” promoted to radio through Duars/Sony Music Latin, rises 4-1 it its 14th week thanks to a 22% boost in audience impressions, to 10.6 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending June 26, according to Luminate.

The track displaces another Sony Music Latin title from the lead: Prince Royce and Maria Becerra’s “Te Espero,” sending it to No. 5 after its one-week reign.

While Corleone claims his best performance among three Latin Airplay entries, Rauw clocks his ninth No. 1, all earned within a two-year period, dating back to “TBT,” with Sebastian Yatra and Manuel Turizo, in July 2020.

The surge in “Desesperados” impressions gives the song its corresponding lift on Latin Rhythm Airplay, which measures the most-heard Latin rhythmic songs also through audience impressions metrics. There, the song jumps 2-1 in its 15th week.

The move also secures Corleone his first leader in a lead role on Latin Rhythm Airplay and second overall. His maiden champ arrived almost eight years ago, through his featured role in Tito El Bambino’s five-week ruler “A Que No Te Atreves” in September 2014. As the song held atop the survey in its third week, it concurrently topped Tropical Airplay for one week (October 2014).

Corleone’s chart rewards continue across Latin charts. His first collaboration with compatriot Bad Bunny has sustained his Hot Latin Songs domination for a seven-week run (and counting): “Me Porto Bonito” leads the all-metric tally (a blend of airplay, streaming activity, and digital sales) thanks to 22.7 million official streams, up 5%, in the week ending June 23.

While “Me Porto” holds strong at No. 1 on Latin Streaming Songs, it’s the only Spanish-language track in the top 10 on the overall Streaming Songs survey, at No. 6, among a collection of five Drake debuts and four other English-language songs.

In addition to its streaming count, “Me Porto” traces its Hot Latin Songs domination to 1,000 downloads sold. The song remains at No. 2 on Latin Digital Song Sales for a second week.

Maria Becerra Earns First No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart with Prince Royce-Collab “Te Espero”

It’s a special first for Maria Becerra…

The 22-year-old Argentine singer and former YouTuber has notched her first No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart as “Te Espero,” her collaboration with Prince Royce, rises 3-1 on the June 25-dated ranking.

Maria Becerra, Prince Royce, Te Espero“Te Espero” reaches the top of the all-genre tally, concurrent with its third week at No. 1 on the Tropical Airplay chart, due in part to a 19% gain in audience impressions, to 10.5 million, earned in the U.S. in the week ending June 19, according to Luminate.

Released via Sony Music Latin on March 3, the song rises to No. 1 in its 15th week on the list and displaces another Sony Music Latin title from the top spot as Carlos Vives and Camilo’s “Baloncito Viejo” falls 1-7 after its one-week lead.

Further, “Te Espero” becomes the sixth song to reach the summit in 15 weeks or more in 2022.

J Balvin & Karol G Lead Pack of Premios Juventud Nominees with 11 Nods Each

J Balvin and Karol G are the leaders of the pack…

The 2022 Premios Juventud nominations have been revealed, with the 37-year-old Colombian singer and rapper and the 31-year-old Colombian singer-songwriter each earning 11 nods.

J Balvin, Karol GJ Bavin and Karol G are followed by nine-time nominee Rauw Alejandro and Farruko with eight.

Balvin, Karol, Farruko and Rauw Alejandro are up for the coveted album of the year prize, alongside Sebastian Yatra, Justin Quiles, Daddy Yankee, Camilo, Rosalia and Natti Natasha.

Other top nominees include Angela Aguilar, Camilo and Grupo Firme with seven nominations each, followed by Anitta, Christian Nodal, El Alfa, Maluma and Rosalia with six nominations each.

Celebrating the trendiest artists in Latin entertainment, 31 awards will be handed out to music stars, actors and fashionistas.

This year, 10 new categories have been added: female artist – on the rise, male artist – on the rise, my favorite actor, my favorite actress, best onscreen couple, my favorite streaming artist, best couple song, tropical hit, the best beatmakers, and best fandom.

Fans have until June 27 to vote at PremiosJuventud.com.

In addition to the nominees, Univision unveiled bachata crooner Prince Royce, Grupo Firme’s Eduin Caz, Mexican pop star Danna Paola, and Dominican TV personality Clarissa Molina as the ceremony’s co-hosts.

The 2022 Premios Juventud will air live at 7:00 pm ET on Thursday, July 21, from the Coliseo Jose Miguel Agrelot in San Juan, Puerto Rico, via Univision.
