Cardi B Earns Fifth No. 1 on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay Chart with GloRilla-Collaboration “Tomorrow 2”

t’s five for fighting for Cardi B.

The 30-year-old half-Dominican American rap superstar has notched her fifth No. 1 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart with her GloRilla-collaboration “Tomorrow 2” on the chart dated December 24.

Cardi B & GloRillaThe song rises from No. 2 to top the list after a 6% boost to 21.1 million audience impressions made it the most-heard song on U.S. monitored R&B/hip-hop radio stations in the week ending December 18, according to Luminate.

Cardi B previously led with this slate of chart-toppers:

Bodak Yellow (Money Moves),” 10 weeks at No. 1, beginning Sept. 30, 2017
No Limit,” G-Eazy featuring A$AP Rocky & Cardi B, six, Dec. 23, 2017
Money,” nine, Feb. 2, 2019
Please Me,” with Bruno Mars, 11, April 6, 2019

Through the new leader, GloRilla captures her first No. 1 on the list. Her sole prior entry, the viral hit “F.N.F. (Let’s Go)” with Hitkidd, reached a No. 3 peak in August.

Plus, the combined might of both rappers yields only the fourth all-female collaboration to reach No. 1 out of 297 total leaders on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay since the chart’s launch in 1992. Brandy and Monica inaugurated the club with the smash single “The Boy Is Mine,” which ruled for five weeks in 1998. In 2007, Keyshia Cole recruited Missy Elliott and Lil Kim as featured acts for the track “Let It Go,” a four-week champ that year, and in 2020, Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage,” featuring Beyoncé, became the third entrant into the league and spent three weeks atop the list.

Of note, there’s one more instance of multiple female acts on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay No. 1, though it isn’t an all-women billing. In 2001, Ja Rule’s “Put It on Me,” featuring Lil Mo and Vita, posted six weeks in charge.

Beyond its R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay coronation, “Tomorrow 2” retains its standing to claim a fourth week at No. 1 on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart as the most-played song on U.S.-monitored R&B/hip-hop radio stations. There, it continues to improve, with 5% more plays in the tracking week ending Dec. 18 than the prior seven-day period. Similarly, it wins a third term atop Rap Airplay after a 7% audience boost in the same tracking window.

On Rhythmic Airplay, meanwhile, the collaboration ascends 8-7 thanks to a 9% gain in weekly plays at the format. Success at all the formats helps the song maintain its No. 15 peak thus far on the all-genre Radio Songs chart for a second straight week, where, despite its static position, “Tomorrow 2” increased 5% in audience impressions to reach 31.9 million for the week ending December 16.

Cardi B Earns Seventh No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart with Lizzo Collaboration “Rumors”

All the rumors are true… Cardi B has another chart-topper on her hands.

The 28-year-old half-Dominican American rap superstar’s collaboration with Lizzo, “Rumors,”has debuted at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart dated August 28.

Cardi B x Lizzo

The track also begins as the genre’s top-selling tune of the week.

With the leading entrance, Lizzo posts her third No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. “Rumors” follows “Truth Hurts,” which reigned for 11 nonconsecutive weeks in 2019 before it surrendered to her own “Good as Hell,” a four-week nonconsecutive champ.

Cardi B, meanwhile, obtains a lucky seventh leader thanks to the No. 1 debut.

Here’s a look at her collection:

Bodak Yellow (Money Moves),” six weeks at No. 1, beginning Sept. 16, 2017
Finesse,” with Bruno Mars, one, Jan. 20, 2018
I Like It,” with Bad Bunny & J Balvin, July 7, 2018
Please Me,” with Bruno Mars, one, March 16, 2019
WAP,” feat. Megan Thee Stallion, 10, Aug. 22, 2020
Up,” four, Feb. 20, 2021
“Rumors,” with Lizzo, one (to date), Aug. 28, 2021

In addition to Cardi B claiming her own seventh champ, the team of Lizzo and Cardi B marks only the ninth instance of women solo acts combining forces for a No. 1 since Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs became an all-encompassing genre tally in 1958; notably, almost half have reigned since May 2020.

The full list of such leaders:

Brandy & Monica, “The Boy Is Mine,” 13 weeks at No. 1 in 1998
Whitney Houston feat. Faith Evans & Kelly Price, “Heartbreak Hotel,” seven, 1999
Keyshia Cole feat. Missy Elliott & Lil Kim, “Let It Go,” three, 2007
Iggy Azalea feat. Charli XCX, “Fancy,” 13, 2014
Iggy Azalea feat. Rita Ora, “Black Widow,” five, 2014
Doja Cat feat. Nicki Minaj, “Say So,” two, 2020
Megan Thee Stallion feat. Beyoncé, “Savage,” two, 2020
Cardi B feat. Megan Thee Stallion, “WAP,” 10, 2020
Lizzo & Cardi B, “Rumors,” one (to-date), 2021

Thanks to “WAP” and “Rumors,” Cardi B is the third person to appear on the above list twice, after Iggy Azalea and Megan Thee Stallion.

Elsewhere, “Rumors” races to a No. 1 debut on the Hot Rap Songs chart and a No. 4 launch on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100.

“Rumors,” released August 13, starts strong in both the sales and streaming realms. On the former, the collaboration kicks off at No. 1 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Song Sales chart through 17,900 downloads in the week ending Aug. 19, according to MRC Data. (Including physical products, the song sold 25,200 copies overall in its first frame.) In the streaming sector, “Rumors” debuts in the runner-up slot on R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs thanks to 20.9 million U.S. streams in the same period.

Initial radio airplay numbers for “Rumors” are highly encouraging, with action in multiple formats. The mainstream pop radio format leads the reception, with “Rumors” advancing 26-19 on the Pop Airplay chart after its first full week of tracking, which ended Aug. 22. The tune also closes in on the top 20 on Rhythmic Airplay, where it surges 32-21, again, after its first full week of availability to radio programmers. And while the aforementioned formats are its current biggest advocates, the single also registers on the Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart at No. 34, retaining its position from the prior week.

From its performance across all formats, “Rumors” debuts at No. 21 on the all-genre Radio Songs chart. The entrance secures both Lizzo and Cardi B the highest starts of each’s career, surpassing the No. 40 bow of “Good as Hell” and the No. 33 arrival of “Please Me,” respectively.

Bruno Mars Earns Eighth No. 1 on Billboard Hot 100 with Silk Sonic Single “Leave the Door Open”

Bruno Mars is Leave-ing his mark yet again…

Leave the Door Open” by Silk Sonic, the duo of the 35-year-old part-Puerto Rican singer and Anderson .Paak, rises from No. 3 to No. 1 for its first week at the summit of the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart.

Bruno Mars, Ricky Regal, Lacoste

It’s Mars’ eighth Hot 100 No. 1, while Anderson. Paak earns his first.

The Hot 100 blends all-genre U.S. streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay and sales data.

“Leave the Door Open” drew 21.5 million U.S. streams (up 13%) and sold 28,600 copies, downloads and CDs combined (up 138%), in the week ending April 8, according to MRC Data. It also attracted 59.1 million radio airplay audience impressions (up 9%) in the week ending April 11.

Combining digital and physical sales, the song was the most-sold of the tracking week, aided by two CD versions that shipped to purchasers in that span (one for $2.50 and a live version for the standard $1.29 single price), as it wins the Hot 100’s top Sales Gainer award.

Bruno Mars’ Hot 100 No. 1s:
“Nothin’ on You” (B.o.B feat. Mars), two weeks, beginning May 1, 2010
“Just the Way You Are,” four weeks, Oct. 2, 2010
“Grenade,” four weeks, Jan. 8, 2011
“Locked Out of Heaven,” six weeks, Dec. 22, 2012
“When I Was Your Man,” one week, April 20, 2013
“Uptown Funk!” (Mark Ronson feat. Mars), 14 weeks, Jan. 17, 2015
“That’s What I Like,” one week, May 13, 2017
“Leave the Door Open” (Silk Sonic [Mars & Anderson. Paak]), one week to-date, April 17, 2021

With eight Hot 100 No. 1s dating to his first, as featured on B.o.B‘s “Nothin’ on You” on the chart dated May 1, 2010, Mars ties Drake, Katy Perry and Rihanna for the most in that span. Mars becomes one of 18 artists in the Hot 100’s entire history with at least eight leaders.

Meanwhile, “Leave the Door Open” reaches No. 1 in its fifth week on the Hot 100, completing Mars’ quickest coronation. He wrapped a prior-best eight-week ascent to the summit with “Uptown Funk!” in 2015.

Silk Sonic pushes “Leave the Door Open” from No. 2 to No. 1 for its first week atop the multi-metric Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, where it’s Mars’ fourth leader, after “That’s What I Like” (10 weeks, 2017), “Finesse” (one week, 2018) and “Please Me” (one week, 2019), the latter two with Cardi B.

“Door” concurrently rebounds 2-1 for a third week atop the Hot R&B Songs chart, which, like Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, uses the same methodology as the Hot 100.
