Joss Favela Earns First-Ever No. 1 on Any Billboard Chart with Luis R. Conriquez-Collaboration “Con Todo Respetillo”

Joss Favela has earned a special first… 

The 33-year-old Mexican musician, singer and songwriter has achieved his first No. 1 on any Billboard chart as “Con Todo Respetillo” with Luis R. Conriquez rises 3-1 to top the November 9-dated Regional Mexican Airplay chart. 

Joss Favela“Con Todo Respetillo” ascends to the summit due to gains in audience impressions for the tracking week of October 25-31.

The single, released on Sony Music Latin/Azteca, generated 7.1 million impressions in the U.S., up 37% from the week prior, according to Luminate.

The track also takes the Greatest Gainer honors, awarded weekly to the song with the most airplay among the chart’s 40 titles.

Although “Con Todo Respetillo” secures Favela’s breakthrough to the No. 1 spot on any Billboard chart, the Sinaloan previously registered six other top 10s on Regional Mexican Airplay, reaching as high as No. 2 through “Me Hubiera Dicho” in June 2018.

Conriquez, meanwhile, returns for his third No. 1 with “Con Todo Respetillo.”

 

The corridos-bélicos singer last achieved his two other No. 1s two years ago, as “JGL,” with La Adictiva,” and “Ya Hiciste Mal,” with Jessie Uribe, both ruled for one week in 2022.

Four other male team-ups have achieved a No. 1 on Regional Mexican Airplay in 2024: Christian Nodal and Peso Pluma through “La Intención” (April 6), Oscar Ortiz and Edgardo Nuñez with “First Love” (April 27), Alejandro Fernandez and Alfredo Olivas with “Cobijas Ajenas” (June 8), and Leonardo Aguilar and Pepe Aguilar through “Bandido de Amores” (July 6).

Despite their different achievements on Regional Mexican Airplay, Favela and Conriquez, both score their third top 10 on the overall Latin Airplay tally, where “Con Todo Respetillo” soars 12-4 with the Greatest Gainer honors of the week.

“Con Todo Respetillo” is the only single that previewed Favela’s Mis Compas, Vol. 1 EP, released May 10 via Sony Music Latin. The album has not visited a Billboard chart yet.

Gabito Ballesteros to Perform at 2024 Billboard Latin Music Awards

Gabito Ballesteros is preparing for a major performance…

The Mexican singer-songwriter and record producer will perform at the 2024 Billboard Latin Music Awards.

He’s among a list of just-added performers that includes Gloria Trevi, Prince Royce, Chencho Corleone and Proyecto Uno.

The artists join a previously announced lineup that includes Fuerza Regida, Grupo Niche, J Balvin, Pepe Aguilar, Luis Alfonso, Maria Becerra, Xavi and Yandel.

The awards show will broadcast on Sunday, October 20, at 9:00 pm ET on Telemundo. Viewers can also watch on the Telemundo App and Peacock and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean on Telemundo Internacional.

Both Prince Royce and Gabito Ballesteros are finalists this year. The former is up for three awards, including tropical artist of the year, solo; tropical song of the year for “Cosas de la Peda,” with Gabito Ballesteros, and tropical album of the year for his seventh album Llamada Perdida.

Meanwhile, Ballesteros is a four-time finalist vying for artist of the year, new. He’s up against Young Miko, Tito Double P, Xavi and Oscar Maydon in that category.

Karol G leads the list of finalists with 17 entries in categories including artist of the year, tour of the year, Global 200 Latin artist of the year, and top Latin album of the year for Mañana Será Bonito (Bichota Season). 

The Billboard Latin Music Awards — the only awards that recognize the most popular albums, songs and performers in Latin music, according to Billboard’s weekly charts — coincide with Billboard Latin Music Week, which returns to Miami October 14-18 with a roster of star speakers including Alejandro Sanz, J Balvin, Young Miko, Pepe Aguilar, Feid, Gloria Estefan, Danny Ocean, Peso Pluma and many more.

Ángela Aguilar is all dressed up…

In celebration of her first decade as a soloist, the 20-year-old Mexican American singer has chosen to honor Mexico by showcasing a collection of striking traditional dresses she has worn throughout the years.

Ángela Aguilar,Aguilar, who recently received a Latin Grammys nomination in the album of the year category for her set Bolero, kicked off in recent days an exhibit at the Mexican Consulate in Houston, which specially arranged an area for visitors to enjoy the collection titled “Ángela Aguilar: 10 Years Singing and Dressing Mexico.”

The show is free and open to the public indefinitely, from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. (local time). It includes 25 outfits, including the one she wore in the music video for “Solamente Una Vez,” a song included in her newly nominated album.

Other dresses that have marked important moments in Aguilar’s career — from her beginnings singing “La Chancla” to a recent one with rebozos used at an awards ceremony — are part of this interactive experience, which includes QR codes on each piece to share information about the moment they were used.

Not to be missed is the short red dress she wore in the video for “Dime Cómo Quieres” alongside her now-husband, regional Mexican star Christian Nodal.

Another notable piece is a tehuana from the state of Chiapas, hand-embroidered by artisans, which she wore for the cover of her album Primero Soy Mexicana.

Aguilar, who is the daughter of Mexican music icon Pepe Aguilar and granddaughter of the legendary Antonio Aguilar and Flor Silvestre, made her onstage debut at only 3, while she and her family accompanied her father on tour.

Five years later, she released her first album at the age of 8 — a joint album with her brother Leonardo titled Nueva Tradición that was powered by banda, mariachi and norteño sounds.

Her solo debut was in 2014 with the Christmas album Navidad con Ángela Aguilar, which was followed by Primero Soy Mexicana (2018), Baila Esta Cumbia (2020), Que No Se Apague La Música (2020), Mexicana Enamorada (2021) and Bolero (2024).

Visitors to her fashion exhibit in Houston will also see the tricolor dress, in honor of the Mexican flag, included on her family’s Jaripeo Sin Fronteras Tour, as well as the princess cut dress that the singer wore in front of Queen Sofia of Spain, which also showcased her Mexican roots.

Designers who have worked for Aguilar and contributed to this unique collection include Nelly de Anda, Iann Dey, Diego Medel, Enrique Samartin, Felipe Alvarado, Anayeli García Cruz and Felipe Botello, among others.

The Mexican consulate in Houston is located at 3200 Rogerdale Rd. in Houston, Texas.

Pepe Aguilar Signs Worldwide Deal with SESAC Latina

The 55-year-old Mexican American singer and producer has signed a worldwide deal with SESAC Latina, per Billboard.

The son of regional Mexican music royalty — his father was the legendary Antonio Aguilar and his mother the iconic Flor Silvestre — Aguilar, who has been performing since he was a toddler, branched out of regional early in his career to sing in rock bands.

Eventually, he would become a renowned ranchera and mariachi music artist placing, so far, nine top 10 titles on Billboard‘s Top Latin Albums chart.

Throughout his career he’s also won four Grammys and five Latin Grammy Awards.

Most recently, he released Que Llueva Tequila, which thrives on the regal mariachi sound that has characterized Aguilar’s style. Earlier this month, the regional Mexican hitmaker also wrapped his Jaripeo Hasta Los Huesos Tour with his children and brother Antonio Aguilar Jr.

Pepe Aguilar joins SESAC Latina’s roster that includes Nicky Jam, Edén Muñoz, Christian Nodal and Manuel Turizo, among others.

Ángela Aguilar Releases New Single “Mis Amigas Las Flores”

Ángela Aguilar is turning pain into poetry…

The 20-year-old Mexican-American singer/songwriter has released her new single “Mis Amigas Las Flores.”

Ángela Aguilar, The song is about the heartbreak of forgiving a partner’s lies and broken promises after romantic gestures like receiving flowers.

In the accompanying music video, Aguilar brings her flower friends to life in a delightful tea party before the fairy-tale of it all collapses — and she finds herself alone.

“I’m gonna be really honest here and I’m not going to beat around the bush: I wrote it for one of my exes,” Aguilar tells Today.com about the creation of the song. “The situation arose from, every time he would do something bad, every time I was going to find out something bad, I had flowers at my house.”

She says it got to the point where the doorman and concierge at her former building knew that the flowers were sent as an apology.

“I always found myself alone, but surrounded by flowers,” she says.

The lyrics of the song paint a melancholic picture of a lonely and disappointed woman who continues to put her faith in her loved one: “Me fallaste en muchas ocasiones/Pero cada vez que dudo vienen dos explicaciones/Tengo una amiga se llama rosa me la mandas para que no esté sola.”

The lyrics translate to: “You failed me on many occasions but every time I doubt, two explanations come. I have a friend named Rose, you send her to me so I’m not alone.”

As Aguilar continues to name the “friends” — or flowers she receives — she sings in Spanish, “I pretend to believe you, but more friends arrive.”

She tells TODAY.com that that lyric was the first one she wrote when crafting the song.

The inspiration for the music video, directed by Damiana Acuna, brings the lyrics to life, mixed with an Alice in Wonderland theme.

“The flowers became my friends because they were the only ‘people’ that were around me, they’re not people but they’re objects,” she explained. “So that’s kind of what we tried to portray in the video.”

What was important for Aguilar was to cast diverse and different women to portray each flower.

Aguilar has quickly become a Latin music staple. Known for her mariachi roots and Aguilar family legacy, the singer-songwriter is the daughter of renowned Mexican American ranchera and mariachi icon Pepe Aguilar, and granddaughter of legendary Mexican singers and actors Antonio Aguilar and Flor Silvestre.

Following in her family’s ranchera roots, the Grammy-nominated Aguilar has brought the traditional Mexican sounds to a worldwide audience, giving the genre a modern and fresh take.

“Mis Amigas Las Flores,” she says, signifies a change in her career and a newfound confidence to create her own songs.

“I love singing classics of Mexican music, but making new classics and trying to connect with people in a more modern way, in a way that feels a little bit more true to myself, is something that is amazing,” she says. “This is a product of a girl that didn’t believe in herself but now has found the courage to do so and seeing what’s gonna come with it with open arms.”

Aguilar is currently touring with her father and brother, singer Leonardo Aguilar, on their Jaripeo Hasta Los Huesos tour, a Mexican folk equestrian show.

Farruko to Perform at This Year’s Billboard Latin Music Awards

Farruko is headed to the Billboard Latin Music Awards…

The 32-year-old Puerto Rican rapper and singer has been added to the list of artists who will perform at the awards show, which will take place on Thursday, October 5.

FarrukoThe “Pepas” singer is among a list of new performer additions that includes Banda Carnaval, Eddy Lover, Grupo Frontera, La Factoría, Marc Anthony, Nicki Nicole, Pepe Aguilar, Sky Rompiendo, Sofia Reyes, Ximena Sariñana and Yng Lvcas. 

On Monday, Billboard and Telemundo announced the second round of performers who will take the stage at the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Florida. The show will be broadcast live on Telemundo and simultaneously on the Spanish entertainment cable network Universo, on Peacock and on the Telemundo app. Throughout Latin America and the Caribbean, it will be available on Telemundo Internacional.

Among the previously announced performers are Calibre 50, Chiquis, El Alfa, Eladio Carrión, Justin Quiles, Los Ángeles Azules, Manuel Turizo, Marshmello, Myke Towers, Peso Pluma, Tini and Yandel.

This year, Mexican music sensation Peso Pluma leads the list of finalists with 21 nods across 15 categories, including Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year, Global 200 Latin Artist of the Year and Top Latin Album of the Year. His collaboration with Eslabon Armado, “Ella Baila Sola,” is up for six awards, including Hot Latin Song of the Year, Global 200 Latin Song of the Year and Sales Song of the Year. And his hit with Yng Lvcas, “La Bebe,” competes in five categories, including Hot Latin Song of the Year and Latin Rhythm Song of the Year.

Following Peso Pluma are Bad Bunny and Grupo Frontera with 15 nods each, including four together for their collab “un X100to,” while Karol G has 13, and Shakira and Fuerza Regida have 12 each.

Ángela Aguilar to Co-Host This Year’s Premios Juventud

Ángela Aguilar is preparing for a special night…

The 19-year-old Mexican-American singer and daughter of Mexican singer Pepe Aguilar will make her hosting debut at Premios Juventud, which will take place July 20 in Puerto Rico.

Ángela AguilarAguilera will not only join television personality Alejandra Espinoza as co-host, she’ll also perform during the show.

A three time Premios Juventud winner, Aguilar has earned three Latin Grammy nominations during her career.

The Premios Juventud will be broadcast live on Univision.

Also confirmed to perform are Danna Paola, Farruko, Denise Rosenthal, Sofía Reyes and Eslabon Armado.

This year’s Premios Juventud theme is “Exprésate a tu Manera.”

Karol G Collects Eight Latin American Music Awards Trophies, Including Artist of the Year

Karol G is this year’s Latin American Music Awards darling…

The 32-year-old Colombian superstar was the big winner at the 2023 Latin AMAs, taking home eight awards, including artist of the year.

Karol GIn addition to the night’s top prize, Karol G took home Song of the Year and Collaboration of the Year for her Becky G-collaboration “MAMIII.”

Becky G collected four awards, including Best Collaboration – Pop/Urban for the

Karol G-assisted girl anthem “MAMIII.”

The Mexican-American singer took the stage to say that women are stronger united.

“This is bigger than us. This is girl power. Thank you to the fans for supporting us.”

Overall, it was a big night for Música Mexicana with artists such as Grupo Frontera and Carin Leon also taking the stage for performances. Leon took the stage three times to perform solo, alongside Frontera and then again for a special medley to honor Legacy Award recipient Pepe Aguilar.

Other special honorees were Carlos Vives — who also received the Legacy Award — and David Bisbal and Prince Royce both took the Pioneer Award.

Additional winners include Bad Bunny, who took home three trophies, and Junior H, Rosalía, Shakira, Romeo Santos and The Weeknd each with two.

Angela Aguilar to Embark on “Piensa En Mi” Tour Through the U.S.

Angela Aguilar is taking her show on the road…

The 19-year-old Mexican-American singer, the daughter of Pepe Aguilar, will embark on a tour of the United States that will begin in June.

Ángela AguilarAguilar made the announcement during a live video through her Instagram account where she gave the details of the shows, which will take place in several important cities, including Las Vegas and Chicago.

Aguilar is extremely happy to be returning to her homeland, as she’s Mexican-American, on her Piensa en Mí tour.

“This Women’s Month, I can announce one of the few women’s tours in the United States and that makes me very excited. Since I was a child I admired many Mexican singers and it is a pleasure to bring my music to all those who have accompanied me. I am very, I’m happy, it’s a dream for me,” said Angela.

Aguilar also mentioned that she’ll release her new album Piensa en Mí, the album that gives her tour its name, in May.

“I am increasingly appreciating what I am experiencing because at 14 years old you are not very aware of what a tour is,” she mentioned.

Bad Bunny Leads Pack of Latin American Music Awards Nominees with 11 Nods

Bad Bunny is the artist to beat at this year’s Latin American Music Awards.

The nominations for the 2023 Latin AMAs have been revealed, with the 29-year-old Puerto Rican rapper and singer leading the pack with 11 nominations, including artist of the year, song of the year and album of the year.

Bad BunnyBad Bunny is still riding high off his Billboard 200 chart-topping album Un Verano Sin Ti and hit single “Me porto bonito.”

Bad Bunny is followed by Becky G and Daddy Yankee, each with nine nominations; and with eight nods each are Grupo Frontera, Karol G, Rauw Alejandro, Romeo Santos and Rosalía, to name a few.

Additionally, Bizarrap, Blessd, Edén Muñoz, Grupo Frontera, Los Lara, Luis Figueroa, Luis R Conriquez, Quevedo, Santa Fe Klan and Yahritza y Su Esencia are nominated in the best new artist category.

TelevisaUnivision also revealed that Carlos Vives and Pepe Aguilar will be recognized as 2023 Latin AMAs Legacy honorees.

Co-hosted by Galilea Montijo and Julián Gil, the eighth edition of the Latin AMAs will take place on Thursday, April 20, at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, and for the first time — since its debut on October 8, 2015, on Telemundo — the ceremony will be broadcast live simultaneously on Univision, UNIMÁS and Galavisión (starting at 7:00 pm ET), after TelevisaUnivision acquired the rights from dick clark productions last September.

This year’s nominations are based on streaming, sales, radio airplay, tours and even social media interactions data provided by Billboard and Luminate during the eligibility period (February 12, 2022, through February 4, 2023).

Fans can vote for their favorite artists on Univision.com/LatinAMAs through Sunday, March 26.
