Danielle Marie Gonzalez to Star in The New Group’s Off Broadway Production “Clueless, The Musical”

The half-Spanish actress has joined the cast of The New Group’s upcoming Off Broadway production Clueless, The Musical, based on the 1995 coming-of-age romantic comedy film, which was loosely based on Jane Austen’s 1815 novel Emma, with an updated setting to modern-day Beverly Hills.

The production will be directed by Kristin Hanggi with a book by Amy Heckerling, who wrote and directed the film.

In addition to Gonzalez, who will portray Lucy, the cast includes Dove Cameron in the lead role of Cher, Dave Thomas Brown (as Josh), Ephie Aardema (Tai) and Zurin Villanueva (Dionne) – roles played in the 1995 film by Alicia SilverstonePaul Rudd, Brittany Murphy and Stacy Dash.

Also in the cast: Lori Alan (Miss Geist/Ms. Stoeger), Sara Andreas (Heather), Gilbert L. Bailey II (Murray), Will Connolly (Travis), Tessa Grady (Amber), L’ogan J’ones (Max), Chris Hoch (Mel, others), Darius Jordan Lee (Sean) and Justin Mortelliti (Christian). Ensemble/swing will include Tiffany EngenKatie GoffmanTalya GrovesJeff Kuhr and Brett Thiele.

Clueless, The Musical begins previews on November 20, opens December 11, and runs through January 12 in The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at The Pershing Square Signature Center.

Gonzalez’s previous theater credits include the national tours of Saturday Night Fever, Flashdance: The Musical and Rock of Ages.

The official trailer has been released for Rob Burnett’s sophomore feature helming effort, The Fundamentals of Caring, starring the 23-year-old half-Mexican American actress/singer.

Based on the novel by Jonathan Evision, it stars Paul Rudd as Ben, a retired writer who becomes a caregiver after suffering a personal tragedy. Six weeks into his training, Ben meets his first client, Trevor, a foul-mouthed 18-year-old with muscular dystrophy. The pair, each struggling with their own form of paralysis, sets out on an impromptu road trip to all the places Trevor has become obsessed with while watching the local news.

Along the way, they pick up a sassy runaway (Gomez) and a mother-to-be who help test the pair’s survival skills outside of their calculated existence as they come to understand the importance of hope and true friendship.

In addition to Gomez and Rudd, the film also stars Craig Roberts, Jennifer Ehle, Megan Ferguson and Frederick Weller.

Netflix, which snapped up the title’s SVOD rights for an estimated $7M, is premiering the drama on June 24.

The Fundamentals of Caring was the closing night film at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.

Trejo to Participate in This Year’s Red Nose Day Special on NBC

The 72-year-old Mexican American actor, best known for portraying villains and anti-heroes, has signed on for NBC’s Red Nose Day Special.

The fundraiser, which aims to help lift kids out of poverty, will be broadcast live on May 26 from 9:00 – 11:oo pm ET on NBC.

The special, hosted by Craig Ferguson, features comedy, musical performances and short films that shed light on children in need here at home and around the world.

Also scheduled to make an appearance on the special are Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tony Hale, Iwan Rheon, Sterling K. Netflix Gives Gomez’s “13 Reasons Why” a Straight-to-Series Order

Netflix has given Anonymous Content and Paramount Television’s 13 Reasons Why, executive produced by the 23-year-old half-Mexican American actress/singer, a straight-to-series order.

The show, based on the New York Times bestselling Young Adult (YA) book by Jay Asher, was created by Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Brian Yorkey, who also wrote the pilot.

13 Reasons Why is the second Netflix straight to order series for Anonymous Content. The first is the Plan B collaboration The OA, which goes into production next quarter.

Gomez recently wrapped four films: In Dubious Battle, directed by James FrancoThe Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving, alongside Paul RuddThe Big Short, starring Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling and Christian Bale; and Seth Rogen’s Neighbors 2.

Most recently, she reprised her role as Mavis in Sony PicturesHotel Transylvania 2, which opened to record-breaking box office.

She is not starring in 13 Reasons Why.

As a recording artist, Gomez has sold more than 22 million singles worldwide, and her new album Revival debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. She will embark on a global tour next year.

Gomez to Star in the Indie Film “The Revised Fundamentals Of Caregiving”

The 22-year-old half-Mexican American actress and singer has landed the female lead opposite Paul Rudd in The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving, directed by Emmy winner Rob Burnett.

Rudd will star in the indie drama as Ben, a caregiver looking after a frustrated teenager named Trevor who is in the advanced stages of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Gomez will portray Dot, a sassy young woman who hitches a ride with the pair during a road trip, and whose forwardness and lack of embarrassment about Trevor’s condition causes him to develop a crush on her.

Burnett, the veteran exec producer of The Late Show with David Letterman, adapted the script from Jonathan Evison’s 2013 novel of the same name.

Soon-to-be co-stars Gomez and Rudd were snapped Sunday night after the Golden Globes with writer/actor Justin Theroux, when a photo of the trio posted to Gomez’s Instagram garnered 1.1 million likes.

Filming on The Revised Fundamentals Of Caregiving begins January 22 in Atlanta.

It’s the latest indie film for Gomez, whose big screen credits include Sony’s 2012 animation hit Hotel Transylvania. A role in Harmony Korine’s racy Spring Breakers added street cred to her resume, and she was most recently seen in William H. Macy’s directorial debut Rudderless, which premiered last year at the Sundance Film Festival.

Gomez next reprises her voice role in Sony’s animated sequel Hotel Transylvania 2 opposite Adam Sandler and Andy Samberg. Offscreen, the global star who has over 107 million social media followers recently signed with Interscope Records after a long run with Disney’s Hollywood Records.

Cannavale to Star in Marvel/Disney’s Superhero Film “Ant-Man”

The 43-year-old half-Cuban American actor and Emmy-winnner has joined the cast of Ant-Man, which has begun filming in San Francisco.

Directed by Peyton Reed, the film stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, a con man who grows into a hero by helping his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (portrayed by Michael Douglas) pull off a heist that will save the world. Lost alum Evangeline Lilly plays Hope Van Dyne, Pym’s daughter.

No word yet on Cannavale’s character in the film.

Additionally, Michael Peña, Abby Ryder Fortson, David Dastmalchian, Wood Harris, Gregg Turkington and rapper-actor T.I. have also been cast in Ant-Man.

Marvel’s Kevin Feige is producing and Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee are executive producers on what Disney/Marvel have set up as their next superhero franchise hot off the successful launch of the Guardians of the Galaxy property.

In addition to California’s Bay Area locale, filming will also take place in Atlanta.

Ant-Man is slated for a July 17, 2015 release.

Cannavale Receives Critics’ Choice Television Award Nomination

He clowned around with the cast of ABC’s Modern Family earlier this year to big laughs… And, now Bobby Cannavele could be reaping a big reward for his memorable appearance.

The 42-year-old half-Cuban American actor, who won a Primetime Emmy Award in 2005 for his guest-starring role on NBC’s Will and Grace, has received a Critics’ Choice Television Awards nomination for playing Cameron’s “estranged ex-clown partner” on ABC’s hit sitcom.

In the episode entitled “Send Out the Clowns,” which aired in mid-March, Cannavele’s character Lewis was part of a reunion that took place at the funeral for Cameron’s clown mentor.

Cannavele will now compete against GirlsBecky Ann Baker, Parks and Rectration’s Kathryn Hahn, The New Girl’s Justin Long, Parks and Recreation’ Paul Rudd and GirlsPeter Scolari in the Best Guest Performer in a Comedy Series category.

Meanwhile, Louis C.K. received a nod in the Best Actor in a Comedy Series category for his starring role in FX’s Louie. The 44-year-old half-Mexican American comedian/actor, who will form part of the ensemble in Woody Allen’s next film, will face off against House of LiesDon Cheadle, Curb Your Enthusiasm’s Larry David, Raising Hope’s Garret Dillahunt, Community’s 
Joel McHale and The Big Bang Theory’s 
Jim Parsons.

NBC led all the broadcast networks with 14 nods, followed by ABC with 13 nominations.  Fox and HBO had 12 nods.

The Critics’ Choice Television Award winners will be announced on June 18.
