Keityn Named Songwriter of the Year at ASCAP Latin Music Awards

The Colombian songwriter and musical artist who co-wrote Karol G’s “Provenza” and Shakira and Rauw Alejandro’s “Te Felicito,” was named songwriter of the year at the 2023 ASCAP Latin Music Awards.

“Me Porto Bonito” — performed by Bad Bunny & Chencho Corleone and co-written by ASCAP songwriter Master Joe — won song of the year, while Universal Music Publishing Music Group took the publisher of the year honor.

Winners at the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers’ annual awards — which recognize the songwriters, producers and publishers behind Latin music’s biggest hits — where announced on May 3 at an invitation-only event in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

A first-time ASCAP winner, Keityn (real name: Kevyn Mauricio Cruz Moreno) has also been behind chart-topping hits such as “Tusa” by Karol G and Nicki Minaj, Maluma‘s “Hawái” and J Balvin and Tainy’s “Agua,” to name a few.

In October 2021, he signed an exclusive deal with Warner Music Latina, and since then, he has released songs as a performer like “El Egoísmo” with Mike Bahía and Dekko, “Anoche” and “Nueva Versión.”

Song of the year honoree “Me Porto Bonito” — a reggaetón track infused with Latin pop and sandungueo, in which two men promise to behave nicely if the woman they’re after asked them to — spent 20 weeks at the top of Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart. It also reached No. 1 on Latin Airplay, peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts, and hit the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100.

Universal Music Publishing Music Group was recognized as publisher of the year for hits including “Después de la Playa,” “Efecto,” “La Corriente,” “Me Porto Bonito,” “Moscow Mule,” “Neverita,” “Ojitos Lindos,” “Party,” “Tarot,” “Tití Me Preguntó” and “Un Ratito” — all part of Bad Bunny’s uber-successful Un Verano Sin Ti, the second album in Spanish to ever top the Billboard 200.

Other 2023 ASCAP Latin Music Award-winning songwriters include Daddy Yankee (“Remix”), Jhayco (“Sensual Bebé”), Marc Anthony (“Mala”), Marco Antonio Solís (“Si Te Pudiera Mentir”), GALE (her first ASCAP Latin Award for “Ley Seca”) and Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Dos Oruguitas”).

Fuerza Regida & Grupo Frontera Earn First No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart with “Bebe Dame”

Fuerza Regida continues dominating the charts…

The Regional Mexican group’s Grupo Frontera-collab “Bebe Dame” expands its chart-topping domination as the two groups’ second collab ascends from the runner-up slot to lead Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart dated March 25.

The track dethrones Bizarrap and Shakira’s “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” after four nonconsecutive weeks on top.

Strong airplay across Latin radio stations fuels “Bebe Dame” to No. 1 in its eighth week after it registered 11.5 million in audience impressions, up 14%, in the U.S. in the week ending March 16, according to Luminate.

In addition to its leadership across Hot Latin Songs (two weeks; Jan. 21 and March 4) and Regional Mexican Airplay, where it holds for a second week at the penthouse, “Bebe Dame” now rules the all-genre Latin Airplay ranking, a first champ for both Fuerza Regida and Grupo Frontera.

While Fuerza Regida reached a No. 14 high with “Se Acabó,” with Lenin Ramirez and Banda Renovación, last December, Grupo Frontera captures its third top 10 among four career entries. Previously, the five-member ensemble secured a No. 4 high through “Que Vuelvas.”

“Bebe Dame’s” new achievement also secures a first chart topper for labels Street Mob and BorderKid. It’s the third instance of an indie label sending a song to No. 1 on Latin Airplay in 2023, after Rimas Music through Bad Bunny and Rauw Alejandro’s “Party” (Feb. 11-dated list) and DALE Play with “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” (four weeks between Feb. and March).

Elsewhere, “Bebe Dame” dips 2-3 on the multimetric Hot Latin Songs chart with declines in both streaming activity and digital sales. The song logged 10.1 million U.S. clicks, a 6% drop from the prior week, and sold a little less than 1,000 downloads, a 4% decrease, dropping 2-4 on Latin Digital Song Sales.

Further, on the overall Billboard Hot 100 chart, “Bebe Dame” rallies 64-47, after it peaked at No. 25 in chart dated Jan. 28.

Ozuna Notches 29th No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Rhythm Airplay Chart with Feid-Collaboration “Hey Mor”

Ozuna has mor to celebrate…

The 30-year-old Puerto Rican singer, songwriter and rapper has notched his 29th No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Rhythm Airplay chart as “Hey Mor,” featuring Feid, leads the February 18-dated ranking.

The song trades places with Bad Bunny and Rauw Alejandro’s “Party,” which slides 1-2 after two weeks at the top of the chart.

“Hey Mor” was released on October 8 via Aura/Sony Music Latin. It ascends 2-1 in its 10th week with 9.3 million in audience impressions, up 7%, earned in the U.S. in the week ending Feb. 9, according to Luminate.

The song is the sixth single from Ozuna’s fifth studio album OzuTochi which debuted at No. 5 on Top Latin Albums and at No. 4 on Latin Rhythm Albums last October.

“Hey Mor” gives the Latin rhythmic hitmaker his 29th champ on Latin Rhythm Airplay, and steps closer to the lead extending his second-best count of No. 1s among all acts on the 17-year-old chart. Daddy Yankee and J Balvin continue to have the most champs, both with 34 No. 1s.

Feid, meanwhile, captures his third No. 1 among seven career appearances. The Colombian’s first offering arrived with “Porfa,” with an all-star team comprising J Balvin, Maluma, Nicky Jam, Sech and Justin Quiles in August 2020.

Plus, he locked in his first and only champ as a soloist, unaccompanied by any other act, on Latin Rhythm Airplay with “Normal” in January.

Elsewhere, “Hey Mor” doubles its previous peak on the all-genre Latin Airplay chart, rallying 8-4 in its seventh week. Plus, Feid scores a career best on the overall Billboard Hot 100 ranking, as the song climbs 96-88.

Bad Bunny Leads Pack of People’s Choice Awards Nominees with Seven Nods

Bad Bunny is this year’s People’s Choice darling…

NBC and E! have announced this year’s People’s Choice Awards nominations, with the 28-year-old Puerto Rican rapper and singer earning seven nods.

Bad Bunny will compete for Concert Tour of 2022, Latin Artist of 2022, Male Artist of 2022 and Social Celebrity of 2022.

He’s also up for Song of 2022 for his hit single “Me Porto Bonito”with Chencho Corleone, Album of 2022 for Un Verano Sin Ti, and Collaboration Song of 2022 for “Party” with Bad Bunny and Rauw Alejandro, a two-time nominee.

Selena Gomez is the top Latina nominee this year…

The 30-year-old Mexican American actress/singer received four nods, including Social Celebrity of 2022, Comedy TV Star of 2022 and Female TV Star of 2022 for her work on Only Murders in the Building, and Music Video of 2022 for “Let Somebody Go,” her song with Coldplay.

In addition to Rauw, two-time nominees include Jennifer Lopez, Camila Cabello and Karol G.

One-time nominees include Rafael Nadal, Brent Rivera, Anitta, Shakira, Sebastian Yatra, Rosalia, Becky G and Oscar Isaac.

Saturday Night Live cast member Kenan Thompson will return to host this year’s People’s Choice Awards, marking his second consecutive ceremony.

Voting is now open and fans worldwide can vote for their favorite nominee in each of the 40 categories representing movies, television, music and pop culture.

The 2022 People’s Choice Awards will air simultaneously on NBC and E! on Tuesday, December 6 at 9:00 pm ET/PT from the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, CA.

Live from E!: The 2022 People’s Choice Awards will kick off the night with a red carpet special at 7:00 pm ET/PT on E!.

Tainy Renews Worldwide Publishing Agreement with Sony Music Publishing

Tainy is staying with Sony…

Sony Music Publishing has renewed its worldwide publishing agreement with the 32-year-old Puerto Rican chart-topping songwriter and producer.

The deal extends the company’s longstanding relationship with the hitmaker, which began in 2005 when he launched his career in Puerto Rico.

“I am grateful that my career has allowed me to reach new heights not only on the artistic and creative side, but also on the business side,” Tainy (real name Marco Masis) said in a statement. “And I appreciate having such great partners on the publishing end. Excited for the next chapter with the SMP family.”

Since kicking off his career, Tainy has become a go-to collaborator for artists such as Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Zion & Lennox and Wisin & Yandel. Most recently, Tainy produced nine songs on Bad Bunny’s record-breaking album, Un Verano Sin Ti, including “Ojitos Lindos” with Bomba Estéreo and the Rauw Alejandro-assisted “Party.”

In October, Tainy made history by becoming the first person to spend 100 weeks at No. 1 on any of Billboard‘s producers charts thanks to tracks like Bad Bunny’s “Yonaguni,” Bad Bunny and JhayCo‘s “Dákiti” and Kali Uchis‘ “Telepatía.”

“Tainy is one of the leading songwriters, artists, and producers in music today. He also happens to be a fantastic human being – as humble as he is talented. I have seen firsthand how he works with other artists and brings out the best in them, while at the same time adding just the right touch to the production or song to make it a lasting global hit,” added Jorge Mejia, Sony Music Publishing president & CEO, Latin America and U.S. Latin. “As an artist, he continues to rack up success after success. Paulo Londra Releases New Single “Party” with A Boogie wit da Hoodie

Paulo Londra is ready to party…

The 21-year-old Argentinian rapper has released his latest single “Party,” a collaboration with rapper A Boogie wit da Hoodie.

The nearly-four minute track, produced by Ovy on the Drums, combines Londra’s raspy voice and A Boogie’s witty rhyming over a mambo-infused trap melody with flairs of Spanish guitar rhythms.

“Party” is a Spanglish joint where both the Argentine artist and New York-based rapper sing about their crazy party ways, sending a message to the haters who are trying to kill their vibe.

“Don’t let this stop / Because I’m out partying with my people / No one can stop us now / Just jump now, don’t stop and olé!” belts Londra on the catchy chorus.

Giving honor to the track, the music video shows both artists drinking, gambling, and having a great time with friends at a house party.

“To have A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie on board makes me very happy. He gives the track an incredible touch and flow,” said Londra in an official statement.

“I was mad excited when I got the call from Paulo Londra. I’ve been a big fan for a minute and I’m glad to be a part of this song,” A Boogie added of their first-ever collaboration.

Earlier this year, Londra joined forces with Ed Sheeran on “Nothing on You,” part of Sheeran’s collaborative No. 6 album. On September 24, Londra was nominated for best new artist at the 2019 Latin Grammy Awards.

Miguel Receives Three 2012 BET Awards Nominations

The nominations for the 2012 BET Awards have been unveiled… And, rising star Miguel leads the Latino pack of nominees with three nods.

The 25-year-old half-Mexican R&B singer/songwriter has received a nomination in the Best Male R&B Artist category. He’ll face off against fellow Latino singer Bruno Mars, as well as Chris Brown, Trey Songz and Usher.

In addition, Miguel has been nominated in the Best Collaboration category with Wale for their song “Lotus Flower Bomb.” Other nominees include Beyonce f/ J. Cole – “Party,” Big Sean f/ Kanye West & Roscoe Dash – “Marvin & Chardonnay,” DJ Khaled f/ Drake, Rick Ross & Lil Wayne – “I’m On One,” Drake f/ Lil Wayne & Tyga – “The Motto,” The Throne (Jay-Z & Kanye West) f/ Otis Redding – “Otis.”

Miguel’s final nod comes in the Coca-Cola Viewer’s Choice Award category for his same collaboration with Wale on “Lotus Flower Bomb.” The pair will face off against Beyonce – “Love On Top,” Chris Brown – “Turn Up the Music,” Drake f/ Lil Wayne & Tyga – “The Motto,” Mindless Behavior – and “Hello,” The Throne (Jay-Z & Kanye West) f/ Otis Redding – “Otis.”

But Miguel and Bruno Mars aren’t the only Latino artists getting nominations… Zoe Saldana received a nod in the Best Actress category, while New York Giants’ star Victor Cruz was nominated in the Subway Sportsman of the Year category.
