Mariah Carey to Receive The Music Icon Award at This Year’s theGrio Awards

Mariah Carey is set to earn another honor…

The 54-year-old half-Venezuelan American Grammy-winning singer will be among the honorees during this year’s Byron Allen Presents theGrio Awards special.

Mariah CareyThe awards show celebrates excellence in film, music, comedy, television, sports, philanthropy, business, fashion, social justice, environmental justice, education, and the cultural icons and innovators whose contributions positively impact America. The television special pays tribute to and amplifies the history makers, change agents and artists who define and influence our world, according to organizers.

Carey, who holds the record for the most Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles by a solo artist with 19, will be honored with The Music Icon Award.

Co-hosted by The Talk‘s Sheryl Underwood and comedian Roy Wood Jr., theGrio Awards will air on Saturday, November 25 from 8:00 – 10:00 pm on CBS and will stream live on Paramount+.

Other honorees include Denzel Washington (The Film Icon award), Eddie Murphy (The Icon award), Don Cheadle (Environmental Champion Icon award) and Misty Copeland (The Trailblazer Icon award).

The special also features musical performances by Boyz II Men, Jennifer Hudson, Coco Jones, Patti LaBelle and Smokey Robinson. Greg Phillinganes serves as musical director, and DJ Kiss is the D.J.

Melissa NaviaNavia can currently be seen starring in the Paramount+ series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The series, a spinoff of Star Trek: Discovery and a prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series, follows Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and the crew of the USS Enterprise as they explore new worlds around the galaxy. Navia stars as ‘Lieutenant Erica Ortegas,’ the charismatic helmsman of the USS Enterprise. Season 2 premiered on June 15 and has already been renewed for a third season.

Additionally, Navia previously recurred on the CBS series Bull and AMC’s Dietland. She also guest starred on NBC’s New Amsterdam and Billions and Homeland for Showtime.

On the big screen, she has appeared in a variety of indie films and shorts.

In 2013, she won the award for Best Actress at the Wild Rose Independent Film Festival for her leading role as ‘Dawn’ in The Paragon Cortex.

Her additional film credits include Sleeping with the FishesBel CantoThe ChosenHymns and What It Was.

In March 2020, she made her Off Broadway debut in the world premiere of Bundle of Sticks from J. Julian Christopher.

Paramount+ to Premiere Nick Barili’s New Docuseries “De La Calle” in November

Paramount+ will premiere the 44-year-old Argentinian-American award-winning journalist, executive producer, director and writer’s new docuseries De La Calle in the U.S. and Canada on Tuesday, November 7.

Nick BariliAcross 8 episodes, Barili explores Latino urban music from the U.S. to Panama, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Spain and beyond.

The series takes a journey into the Latine diaspora to map the evolution of Urbano music and cultures that ignited the musical revolution of Rap, Reggaeton, Bachata, Latin trap, Cumbia and other sounds that influence music and culture worldwide.

Selena Gomez Earns Three MTV Europe Music Awards

The 31-year-old Mexican American singer/actress leads all Latino/a nominees for the 2023 MTV Europe Music Awards with three nods.

Selena GomezGomez, who had previously earned five MTV EMA nods, is nominated for Best Song and Best Collaboration for her Rema-collaboration “Calm Down,” as well as Biggest Fans.

Anitta is nominated in two categories.

The 30-year-old Brazilian singer/songwriter is nominated for Best Latin, an award she won last year, and Biggest Fans.

Ice Spice, a first time MTV EMAs nominee, has picked up three nods.

The 23-year-old half-Dominican American singer/rapper is up for Best New and Best Push, as well as Best Collaboration for her PinkPantheress-collab “Boys A Liar Pt. 2.”

Cardi B has earned two nominations.

The 30-year-old half-Dominican American Grammy-winning rap superstar and two-time MTV VMAs-winner is up for Best Hip-Hop and Best Video for her Megan Thee Stallion collaboration “Bongos.”

Karol G and Shakira are both nominated in the same two categories. The Colombian artists are up for Best Collaboration for “TQG;” and they’ll compete against each other in the Best Latin category.

Peso Pluma has picked up his first ever MTV EMAs nods.

The 24-year-old Mexican artist, the sole Latino artist with multiple nods, is up for Best New and Best Latin.

Other nominees include Jared Leto (and his Thirty Seconds to Mars band mates), Bad Bunny, Rosalia and Robert Trujillo (and his Metallica band mates).

This year’s event will be broadcast live to more than 150 countries on November 5 from the Paris Nord, marking the first time the ceremony has returned to the City of Light since 1995; the show will also be available in a number of international territories on Pluto TV and on-demand on Paramount+.

Fans can vote for their favorite categories; voting will be open through 11:59 p.m. CET on October 31. Fans in 24 regions around the world will be able to vote for their favorite performers in the best local act category.

Mariah Carey to Embark on 13-Date “Merry Christmas One And All! Tour”

Mariah Carey is preparing to spread more holiday cheer…

The 54-year-old half-Venezuelan American Grammy-winning singer/songwriter, the self-proclaimed Queen of Christmas, has announced that she will be embarking on her Merry Christmas One And All! Tour starting in November.

Mariah Carey“Yes, the actual defrosting has begun!” the singer shared via Instagram. “Announcing the MERRY CHRISTMAS ONE AND ALL Tour!”

Carey’s 13-date trek will kick off in California’s Yaamava Casino in Highland on November 15, and will make stops in Los Angeles, Denver, Toronto, Chicago, Boston, Montreal, Philadelphia and more before concluding in New York on December 17, just a week shy of Christmas Day, at Madison Square Garden.

For those looking to purchase tickets early, Live Nation’s presale begins on Wednesday, October 4, at 10:00 am local time. American Express card members will have early access to the presale Wednesday through Thursday, October 5, at 10:00 pm local time. General on sale for the shows begins on Friday, October 6, at 10:00 am local time.

Last year, the five-time Grammy winner performed four Christmas shows — two each in Toronto and New York City — in mid December. She also launched the Merry Christmas to All! holiday special, which was filmed in the Big Apple’s Madison Square Garden and aired on December 20 on Paramount+ and CBS.

The 7-year-old Latino actor’s animated film PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie debuts as the No. 1 film in the country after lapping up $23M, a big win for Paramount and Spin Master

Brice GonzalezEntTelligence says Paw Patrol 2 drew 2.3M admissions, with close to half of the film’s tickets being sold at child pricing.

Gonzalez voices the new character of Tot in the film. He is the member of the Junior Patrollers, alongside Nano and Mini. He’ll also debut in PAW Patrol through the Season 10’s “Mighty Pups vs. The Mayor of the Universe“.

In Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie, the PAW Patrol pups magically gain superpowers after a meteor strikes Adventure City. However, things take a turn for the worse when Humdinger and a mad scientist steal their powers and turn themselves into supervillains. As the team springs into action to save the city, Skye soon learns that even the smallest pup can make the biggest difference.

Gonzalez’s previous credits include Flamin’ Hot and Lopez vs. Lopez.

Paramount to Release New “Mean Girls” Film Starring Auli’i Cravalho in January 2024

Auli’i Cravalho is bringing the mean in early 2024…

Paramount plans to release its new Mean Girls film, starring the 22-year-old part-Puerto Rican actress/singer and Moana lead, will be released theatrically on January 12, 2024, during the four-day Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday weekend.

Auli’i CravalhoParamount had originally planned to release the film via Paramount+.

In addition to Cravalho, the new film stars Angourie Rice, Reneé Rapp, Jaquel SpiveyTina Fey, Tim Meadows, Jenna Fischer, Busy Philipps, Avantika, Mahi Alam, Christopher Briney, Bebe Wood, Ashley Park, Connor Ratliff and Jon Hamm.

Arturo Perez and Samantha Jayne are directing the new film, from a script by Fey.

Broadway Video’s Lorne Michaels has returned to produce alongside Fey.

The original Mean Girls film, directed by Mark Waters and penned by Fey off of Rosalind Wiseman’s novel, grossed more than $130 million worldwide and blasted off the careers of Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried while also repping a box office hit for Lindsay Lohan at the time.

Nickelodeon to Relaunch Dora the Explorer with Diana Zermeño’s Animated Theatrical Short “Dora and the Fantastical Creatures”

It’s a fantastical time for Diana Zermeño.

Nickelodeon is relaunching the famed Latina explorer in new animated theatrical short, Dora and the Fantastical Creatures, featuring the Latina actress in the voice cast as the titular character, exclusively in theaters on Friday, September 29.

Dora and the Fantastical CreaturesThe short film will precede the Spin Master Entertainment/Nickelodeon Movies/Paramount picture, PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie.

It’s a Dora like you’ve never seen her before — in complete CGI animation.

The new CGI animated preschool series of Dora will debut in spring 2024 on Paramount+ stateside. Internationally, Dora will stream day-and-date on Paramount+ and air on Nickelodeon channels in all markets where available.

In Dora and the Fantastical Creatures, Dora (Zermeño) and Boots (Asher Spence) embark on an incredible adventure to the land of alebrijes, the most magical and colorful creatures in the rainforest. There, they must band together against Swiper (Marc Weiner) to save the beloved alebrijes and their Copal Tree Celebration.

The short film also features: Anairis Quiñones as Luna Arcoiris; Danny Burstein as Sol; and Kate del Castillo as Ale. Following the debut of Dora and the Fantastical Creatures, additional Dora content will also be available across Nickelodeon platforms, Paramount+ and Noggin.

The short is produced by Nickelodeon Animation in Burbank, Calif. William Mata is directing from a screenplay by Alejandro Bien-Willner and a story by Bien-Willner and Sean Gill. Production is overseen by Eryk Casemiro, Executive Vice President, Global Animated Series, Nickelodeon. Miriam Ritchie and Marielle Kaar serve as Nickelodeon’s Executives in Charge of Production for the short. Dora the Explorer is created by Chris Gifford, Valerie Walsh Valdes and Eric Weiner.

Joining the cast of Dora and the Fantastical Creatures in the new Dora series are additional voice actors, including: Anairis Quiñones as Map and The Fiesta Trio’s armadillo; Maria Canals-Barrera as Abuela; Danny Burstein as Grumpy Old Troll, and The Fiesta Trio’s frog and marmoset; Katarina Sky as Backpack; Donovan Monzon-Sanders as Tico; Tandi Fomukong as Isa; Quintún Muñoz as Benny; and Chris Gifford as Big Red Chicken.

Paramount+ Releases First Look at Jenna Ortega’s “Finestkind”

It’s Jenna Ortega’s finest(kind) hour…

Paramount+ has released first look images at Finestkind, starring the 20-year-old Puerto Rican & Mexican American actress.

Jenna Ortega, FinestkindFrom Brian Helgeland, the film also stars Tommy Lee JonesBen Foster and Toby Wallace, ahead of its premiere Friday at the Toronto Film Festival. The film is set for a November premiere exclusively on Paramount+.

Written and directed by Helgeland, Finestkind tells the story of two brothers (Foster & Wallace), raised in different worlds, who are reunited as adults over a fateful summer. Set against the backdrop of commercial fishing, the story takes on primal stakes when desperate circumstances force the brothers to strike a deal with a violent Boston crime gang. Along the way a young woman (Ortega) finds herself caught perilously in the middle. Sacrifices must be made and bonds between brothers, friends, lovers, and a father (Jones) and his son are put to the ultimate test.

Anitta to Perform at This Year’s MTV Video Music Awards

Anitta will be making a special appearance at this year’s MTV VMAs

The 30-year-old Brazilian superstar has been added to the list of performers for the MTV Video Music Awards.

AnittaAnitta is joined by Lil Wayne, Doja Cat, Kelsea Ballerini and K-pop band Tomorrow X Together as the latest round of performers.

They join previously announced Demi Lovato, Karol G, Måneskin and Stray Kids.

Additional performers to be announced soon.

The awards show will air live from New Jersey’s Prudential Center on Tuesday, September 12 at 8:00 pm on MTV and stream on Paramount+.

Taylor Swift leads the pack in nominations with eight, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year and Song of the Year for “Anti-Hero”.

Other multi-nominated artists include SZA with 6 noms, Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo and Sam Smith with 5 each, and Blackpink, Diddy and Shakira with 4 each.

There also are a record number of first-ever VMAs nominees (35 total) this year, with multiple nominations for first-timers Kim Petras (5), Metro Boomin and Rema (3 each), Ayra Starr, GloRilla, Ice Spice, Peso Pluma, Reneé Rapp and Yung Miami (2 each).
