Tom Segura Signs with WME (William Morris Endeavor)

Tom Segura has new representation…

The 42-year-old half-Peruvian American comedian, actor and podcaster has signed with WME (William Morris Endeavor) for representation in all areas.

While he’d planned to unveil an additional Spanish-language special on Netflix last fall, its release has been delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Segura previously released the hour-long stand-up albums White Girls With Cornrows and Thrilled in 2012 and 2010, respectively.

He’ll kick off his latest world tour, I’m Coming Everywhere on December 31, with two shows at the Hawaii Theater Center in Honolulu, and will continue touring throughout 2022.

Segura’s film credits include Paramount Pictures’ comedy Instant Family, in which he starred opposite Mark Wahlberg and Rose Byrne, comedian Steve Byrne’s The Opening ActJustin Dec’s horror-thriller Countdown and Cameron Van Hoy’s crime drama Flinch.

He’s appeared on the television side in The Cabin with Bert KreischerWorkaholicsHappy Endings and more.

Segura also has his own podcast network, Your Mom’s House Studios, which he runs with his wife, comedian Christina Pazsitzky. It’s home to the hit podcasts Your Mom’s House, which he co-hosts with Pazsitzky, and 2 Bears 1 Cave, which he co-hosts with Bert Kreischer, among others. Notably, YMH Studios was one of the first networks to create successful livestream podcast events as a creative outlet amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, which has disrupted the stand-up scene to varying degrees over the last 20 or so months.

Kalinda Vazquez to Write “Star Trek” Film for Paramount Pictures

The Latina television writer and producer has been set by Paramount Pictures to write a Star Trek film.

Vazquez has written on Star Trek: Discovery, and insiders say this is a blind deal for an original movie that she hatched, one that expands her role in the Star Trek Universe.

Vazquez was a co-executive producer on Fear the Walking Dead. She also got her name from the original Star Trek series, after a character from the second-season episode “By Any Other Name.” In the 1968 episode, the character’s name was Kelinda.

Vazquez just made a splash in teaming with Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin on an HBO series adaptation of the Roger Zelazny sci-fi novel Roadmarks.

Vazquez’s television credits include Marvel’s Runaways, Once Upon a Time, Nikita, Human Target and Prison Break, and she recently adapted Barrier, based on a Brian K. Vaughan graphic novel, for Legendary Television.

Netflix Acquires Rights to Latest “My Little Pony” Film, Co-Directed by José Luis Ucha

The streaming service has picked up the global rights, excluding China, to the Latino director and writer’s My Little Pony film.

Paramount Pictures was originally set to release the movie on September 24.

The film, hailing from eOne’s animation outfit Boulder Media, was directed by Ucha and Rob Cullen, with co-director Mark Fattibene.

A streaming date is planned for later this year.

The last My Little Pony: The Movie in 2017, released via 2017, earned $21.9M domestic and $60.3M WW.

The My Little Pony toy franchise was first launched in 1981, with the brand reportedly grossing over $1 billion annually in retail sails by 2014.

Melissa Barrera to Star in “Scream 5”

The 30-year-old Mexican actress, who recently ended her three-season run on Starz’s Vida, has landed akey role in Scream 5.

Barrera is the first new cast member to be announced for the anticipated Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures relaunch.

Friends alum and legacy cast member Courteney Cox will be reprising her role in the franchise as dogged reporter Gale Weathers alongside David Arquette, who is coming back as Dewey Riley. Neve Campbell, who portrayed Sidney Prescott in the slasher film, told press in May that she was in talks to join the movie.

Cameras are due to roll in Wilmington, North Carolina, this fall and the project is due to wrap by year’s end. Additional casting is underway on the ensemble horror.

Scream 5 is being directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.

Creator Kevin Williamson and Chad Villella are executive producing.

The Scream franchise, through four films dating back to 1996, has grossed more than $600M at the global box office. The late Wes Craven directed all four movies. Williamson wrote the original film as well as Scream 2 and Scream 4.

Barrera, who was named to Variety’s 10 Latinxs to Watch list earlier this year, will next appear in Warner Bros.’ film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony Award-winning Broadway musical hit In The Heights. That film is due for release next year.

This fall she’ll star as the title character in the film Carmen, the modern-day reimagining of the classic opera. The movie will mark the feature debut of Black Swan choreographer Benjamin Millepied and will feature music from composer Nicholas Britell and Grammy winner Julieta Venegas.

Esai Morales to Star as the Villain in “Mission: Impossible 7”

Esai Morales has found a new mission…The 57-year-old Puerto Rican actor has joined the cast of Mission: Impossible 7, replacing Nicholas Hoult s the film’s villain.

The Paramount and Skydance co-production was close to starting production in Italy, when the world shut down due to COVID-19 and that included the Christopher McQuarrie-directed film, which will see Tom Cruise reprise his Ethan Hunt spy character.

The delay put Hoult in conflict with another commitment.

Mission: Impossible 7 is expected to start production in late summer or early fall. 

The film was scheduled for release on July 23, 2021 but has been moved to November 19, 2021 to account for the delay. 

The entire franchise through six movies has amassed over $3.57 billion for Paramount.

Paramount Releases New Trailer for Monica Barbaro’s “Top Gun: Maverick”

Paramount has released the second trailer for Top Gun: Maverickthe studio’s long-anticipated sequel to the action classic about a U.S. Navy pilot’s daring airborne exploits starring the 29-year-old part-Mexican American actress.

The new footage unveils a little more plot of the film, with Tom Cruise’s fighter pilot Maverick now in an instructor role, training the next generation of pilots including Miles Teller’s Bradley Bradshaw, the son of the character Goose from the original movie.

Maverick appears to be putting his recruits through an intense training program, with the trailer featuring one hair-raising shot where he flies his jet narrowly between two of their planes.

It appears the film will also contain a tragic subplot, with shots of Maverick and Jennifer Connelly’s character – reportedly playing the protagonist’s love interest – getting emotional while attending a Navy funeral.

Rounding out the footage are the expected motorcycle shots, dialogue exchanges highlighting Maverick’s disregard for authority, plus some shirtless volleyball for good measure.

In addition to Cruise, Connelly and Barbaro, who portrays pilot trainee “Phoenix,”the movie’s cast also includes Jon Hamm, Glen PowellLewis PullmanCharles ParnellBashir Salahuddin, Jay EllisDanny RamirezGreg Tarzan Davis and Ed Harris.

The film, directed by Joseph Kosinski, flies into theaters on June 26, 2020.

Edward Furlong to Reprise His Role as John Connor in “Terminator: Dark Fate”

Furlong originally played Conner, the son of Linda Hamilton’s Sarah, in 1991’s sequel Terminator 2: Judgment Dayin his first screen role. 

This will return him to the role for the first time since.

The news came during a San Diego Comic-Conpanel headed by Arnold Schwarzenegger, the once-and-future icon of Terminatorfranchise, and Hamilton, who reunited on the Hall Hstage for the Paramount Picturesand Skydance Mediafilm, which hits theaters on November 1.

First Trailer Released for Isabela Moner’s “Dora and the Lost City of Gold”

Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for Dora and the Lost City of Gold, starring the 17-year-old Peruvian-American actress.

The live-action film is based on the popular Nickelodeonanimated series, Dora the Explorer.

In addition to Moner as the title character, the film also Eva LongoriaMichael Peña and Eugenio Derbez.

After spending most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents, Dora prepares to leap into her most challenging adventure yet – high school. Always the explorer, she quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego (half-Dominican American actor Jeffrey Wahlberg), a mysterious jungle inhabitant (Derbez), and a rag-tag group of teens on a live-action adventure to save her parents and solve the mystery behind a lost city of gold.

The film is directed by James Bobin. The screenplay is written by Nicholas Stollerand Matthew Robinson, from a story by Tom Wheeler.

Dora and the Lost City of Gold arrives in theaters on August 2.

Netflix Confirms Noah Centineo to Officially Appear in “To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before” Sequel

There’s officially more Loved in Noah Centineo’s future…

Netflix has confirmed that Lana Condor and the 22-year-old part-Latino actor,, the stars behind its hit Young Adult film To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, are officially returning for the sequel.

The new film, which will be based on the book trilogy by Jenny Han, is now in development.

The casting news comes after Viacom CEO Bob Bakishconfirmed earlier this month that the sequel would be the first title in Paramount Pictures’ multi-picture deal with Netflix. 

Awesomeness Films, acquired by Viacom earlier this year, produced the original and will produce the sequel, which returns with screenwriter Sofia Alvarez.

The book series centers on Lara Jean (Condor), who writes love letters to the five boys she’s ever loved and keeps them locked away in a hatbox until the day her letters are mailed, upending her real-life love life.

The first film was one of the streaming service’s highlights; in a rare peek behind the scenes at the streaming service, Netflix said half of all viewers who watched To All the Boys and fellow YAhit Kissing Booth re-watched them at least once.
