Pedro Almodovar’s Production Company Developing TV Series “Mentiras Pasajeras” with Viacom International Studios

Viacom International Studios has set a co-development deal with El Deseo, the Spanish production company owned by the 70-year-old legendary Spanish filmmaker and his brother Agustín Almodóvar, for an eight-episode series, Mentiras Pasajeras.

The companies will co-develop the series under the direction of Spanish screenwriters Nerea Castroand Blanca Andres

El Deseo, which produces both film and television projects, was formed in 1985 by Pedro Almodovar. His  latest release, Pain and Glory, earned a Best International Filmnomination and also a Best Actornod for Antonio Banderas.

The series follows a collaboration involving VIS, El Deseo, RTVE and Movistarfor the upcoming Isabel Coixet film, Snow in Benidorm. With a cast featuring Timothy SpallSarita ChoudhuryCarmen MachiAna Torrentand Pedro Casablanc, the project started filming on January 20 in Benidorm, Spain.

The 59-year-old Spanish actor was awarded the Best Actor prize by the National Society of Film Critics over the weekend.

Banderas picked up the prize for his performance in Pedro Almodóvar’s Pain and Glory

The organization rolled out the winners on its official Twitteraccount. “We have 20 critics voting in New York, 9 critics voting remotely from L.A. and other cities, and 14 critics voting by proxy,” the group tweeted.

The National Society of Film Criticswas founded in 1966. Its members include critics from major papers in Los Angeles, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, and Denver.

Pedro Almodovar Earns Four London Critics’ Circle Film Awards Nominations

Nominations for the 40th edition of the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards have been announced, with the 70-year-old Spanish filmmaker earning four nods.

Almodovar is nominated in the Film of the Year and Foreign Language Film of the Year categories for his latest project, Pain and Glory.

He’s also up for Director of the Year and Screenwriter of the Year for his work on his critically acclaimed film.

Antonio Banderas has picked up more acting recognition…

The 59-year-old Spanish actor, who earned Golden Globe nod recently, is nominated in the Actor of the Year category for starring in Almodovar’s Pain and Glory.

Jennifer Lopez is also in the running…

The 50-year-old Puerto Rican singer, who earned her first-ever SAG Awardsnod recently, is nominated in the Supporting Actress of the Year category for her stellar performance in Hustlers.

Alejandro Landes’ acclaimed film Monos has earned the 39-year-old Colombian-Ecuadorian film director a nod in the Foreign Language Film of the Year category.

Winners will be announced on January 30.

Antonio Banderas Nabs First-Ever AACTA International Awards Nod from Australian Academy

The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Artshas unveiled its nominees for the 9th AACTA International Awards, with the 59-year-old Spanish actor picking up a nod.

Banderas is up for Best Lead Actor for his highly acclaimed performance in Pedro Almodovar’s Pain and Glory.

It’s his first-ever AACTA International Award nomination.

The AACTA International Awards will be handed out on January 3 in Los Angeles.

The AACTA International Awards recognize film excellence regardless of geography and are determined by the Oz Academy’s International Chapter, which is made up of 150 Australian screen professionals, many of whom overlap with AMPASand BAFTA.

Antonio Banderas Named Best Actor by the New York Film Critics Circle

The New York Film Critics Circle has named the 59-year-old Spanish actor its Best Actor of 2019.

Banderas picked up the award for his performance in Pedro Almodovar’s Spanish drama Pain and Glory.

The NYFCC, one of the early critics-group bellwethers of the movie awards season, voted throughout Wednesday morning for its selections in 12 categories. Winners will be honored at the group’s annual gala January 7 at Tao Downtown.

The NYFCC, founded in 1935, includes critics from daily and weekly newspapers, magazines and online publications.

Antonio Banderas to Receive International Star Award at the Palm Springs International Film Festival

The 59-year-old Spanish actor will receive the 31st annual Palm Springs International Film Festival’s International Star Award, Actor for his performance in Pedro Almodovar’s Pain and Glory

“Throughout his career Antonio Banderas has garnered international acclaim and world recognition from his memorable performances,” said Festival Chairman Harold Matzner. “In his latest film Pain and Glory, Antonio Banderas gives another deeply moving performance as aging film director Salvador Mallo going through a creative crisis as he reflects on the choice’s he’s made throughout his life.”

Past recipients of the International Star Award include Javier BardemNicole KidmanHelen Mirren, Gary Oldman and Saoirse Ronan

Banderas, who recently earned a Goya Award nomination for his performance in Pain and Glory, will join the previously announced honorees Jennifer Lopez (Spotlight Award), Joaquin Phoenix (Chairman’s Award), Martin Scorsese Sonny Bono Visionary Award), Charlize Theron( International Star Award, Actress) and Renée Zellweger(Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress).

From Sony Picture Classicsand presented by El DeseoPain and Glory tells of a series of reencounters experienced by Salvador Mallo, a film director in his physical decline. Some of them in the flesh, others remembered.

The award will be presented at the festival’s Film Awards Galaon Thursday, January 2 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

The festival runs January 2-13, 2020.

Antxon Gómez Wins European Film Awards Prize for “Pain and Glory”

It’s certainly pain and glory for Antxon Gómez

The first eight 2019 European Filn Awards winners have been revealed ahead of next month’s official ceremony, with the 67-year-old Spanish production designer picking up one of the prizes.

The first round of prizes sees eight craft categories named prior to the event. 

Gómez won the European Production Design award for his work on Pedro Alomodovar’s Pain and Glory. He’d previously been nominated for an EFA in 2011 for his work on another Almodovar project… The Skin I Live In.

The Latino sound engineer won theEuropean Sound award alongside Nacho Royo-Villanovaand Laurent Chassaignefor their work on A Twelve-Year Night.

The European Film Academy has unveiled its nominations for the 32nd European Film Awards, with the 70-year-old Spanish filmmaker’s latest project earning four nods.

Almodovar’s Pain and Glory, Spain’s official entry into the Oscar race in the Best International Feature Film category,is up for European Film 2019

Almodovar, a seven-time EFAswinner, is also up for two individual prizes… European Screenwriterand European Directorfor writing and helming Pain and Glory.

Meanwhile, Antonio Banderashas been nominated in the European Actor category for his acclaimed work in Almodovar’s film.

The Spanish actor previously won a Europe Film Award in 1998 for his performance in The Mask of Zorro.

The ceremony will be held on December 7 in Berlin.
