J Balvin Receives Latino Impact Award During United Nations Latino Impact Summit

J Balvin is celebrating his international impact

The 37-year-old Colombian superstar received the Latino Impact Award at the United Nations Latino Impact Summit for his work shining a light on mental health.

J BalvinBalvin was honored this week at the United Nations headquarters in New York City during the summit, which returned to an in-person format for the first time since the pandemic.

He was honored for raising awareness on mental health and wellness in the Latin community as well as for the launch of his mental wellness app, OYE.

Balvin is the creator, along with Mario Chamorro, Patrick Dowd and Isaac Lee, of the Spanish and English application that offers a space for people to transform their emotions into creative actions.

For this reason, it achieves “a balance between emotional health and physical health, through exercises that help release stress, fear, sadness and the burdens that each human being receives in their daily routines, to reconnect with their inner power. and create the life they want,” said the Public Foundation, which organizes the summit, in a statement.

Aterciopelados Touring the U.S. for the First Time in Three Years

The Colombian alternative rock band, comprised of Andrea Echeverri and Héctor Buitrago, are touring the United States for the first time in three years.

The tour kicked off on Thursday, October 1, at the House of Blues in San Diego.

Aterciopleados will also appear at L.A.’s Supersonico Festival (October 3).

The tour includes dates in Oakland (October 4), Tucson (October 7), and Atlanta (October 10), and wraps up at the Latin American Festival in Charlotte, NC.

Echeverri and Buitrago will be performing what amounts to a career respective of their work together and from each of their solo projects, which means that the shows will be packed with people singing along as they remember episodes form their youth.

Aterciopelados has received numerous awards, including the Latin Grammy for Best Alternative Album in 2007, for Oye.

The 40-year-old Puerto Rican rapper and reggaetonero, considered one of the founding fathers of reggaeton, has recently released the music video for his latest single “Oye,” one of the tracks from his current album Colaboraciones de ayer y hoy.

Directed by Santiago Ruiz and Mariano Dawidson, the clip was shot in several parts of Puerto Rico, including a hotel in Old San Juan and the Pal Cielo nightclub on Loiza Street in the Santurce area, where the New York-born Vico C grew up and has spent a great part of his life.

Vico C’s daughters, Marangely and Enni, served as the choreographers for the “Oye” video, while rapper Funky collaborated with Vico C on the track.

Colaboraciones de ayer y hoy, which features Vico C’s hits from the past decade, includes songs he performed with La Mala Rodriguez, Jarabe de Palo and Alejandra Guzman.
