Paramount+ to Premiere Nick Barili’s New Docuseries “De La Calle” in November

Paramount+ will premiere the 44-year-old Argentinian-American award-winning journalist, executive producer, director and writer’s new docuseries De La Calle in the U.S. and Canada on Tuesday, November 7.

Nick BariliAcross 8 episodes, Barili explores Latino urban music from the U.S. to Panama, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Spain and beyond.

The series takes a journey into the Latine diaspora to map the evolution of Urbano music and cultures that ignited the musical revolution of Rap, Reggaeton, Bachata, Latin trap, Cumbia and other sounds that influence music and culture worldwide.

“As a first-generation immigrant who learned how to speak English through Hip Hop at Malcolm X Elementary, I grew up straddling two worlds, speaking English at school and Spanish at home,” Barili, the project’s co-creator, executive producer and host, shared in a statement.

He continued, “I was influenced by El General and Calle 13 as much as E-40 and OutkastDe La Calle was created to explore how the seeds from the street that inspired Hip Hop are also present throughout Latin America and Spain. Going to the neighborhoods where El Movimiento was created, talking to the pioneers who were actually there and sharing the origin stories of superstars of today and tomorrow. I’m thrilled to have MTV Studios and Paramount+ as partners to bring De La Calle to the world.”

Gloria Estefan Nominated for the Songwriters Hall of Fame

The 62-year-old Cuban singer/songwriter and former Miami Sound Machine member has been nominated for the prestigious Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Estefan, a three-time Grammy winner and three-time Latin Grammy, has penned numerousinternational chart-topping hits in English and Spanish, including  “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You,” “1-2-3,” “Don’t Wanna Lose You,” “Here We Are,” “Coming Out of the Dark,” “Con Los Años Que Me Quedan,” “Mi Tierra” and “No Me Dejes de Querer.” 

Additionally, Estefan has penned songs for other artists, including “Let’s Get Loud,” performed by Jennifer Lopez, and “Whenever Wherever,” performed by Shakira. Additionally, she co-wrote “Reach,” one of two official songs of the 1996 Atlanta Games, with Diane Warren.

In all, 24 acts are in contention for the 2020 class. The Songwriters Hall gave The Associated Press the list of nominees Tuesday (Nov. 5), a day ahead of its official announcement.

Non-performing solo nominees are William “Mickey” StevensonRick NowelsSonny CurtisJerry FullerTony MacaulayBob McDill and Roger Nichols. Non-performing songwriting duos nominated include the late Tommy Boyceand Bobby Hart,Lynn Ahrensand Stephen FlahertyL. Russell Brownand the late Irwin Levine, and Kye Flemingand Dennis Morgan.

Songwriters are eligible for induction after writing hit songs for at least 20 years. Six songwriters, or songwriting groups, will be officially inducted at the Hall’s 51st annual Induction & Awards Gala in New York on June 11, 2020. Eligible members can vote for three non-performing songwriters and three performing songwriters until December 16.

Kid Cudi Added to Outkast’s Homecoming Show in Atlanta in September

The 30-year-old part-Mexican American hip-hop artist, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, has been added to Outkast‘s homecoming show at Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park on September 27.

Childish Gambino and Raury have also been added to the roster.

Dubbed #ATLast, the concert is being curated by the reunited duo, who promise additional performers at the one-day fest in downtown Atlanta.

“Dream come true opening for Outkast, holy fu-k lets go!” Kid Cudi said Wednesday morning on Twitter.

“It’s only right that we give the hometown what we’ve been giving the rest of the world, Atliens in ATL, homecoming! Festival Killers,” said Big Boi in a previous statement. “We want to say thank you” to Atlanta, Andre 3000 added.

The duo confirmed in January plans for an international headlining festival tour that began at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Fest and included more than 40 dates throughout the summer.

Outkast’s tour came close to home when the pair played the CounterPoint Music & Arts Festival in April, a three-day event in Rome, Ga., about 60 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta.

Mars to Headline London’s and Birmingham’s Wireless Festival This Summer

Bruno Mars is going wireless in the U.K.

The 28-year-old part-Puerto Rican singer-songwriter, who logged record numbers during his critically acclaimed Super Bowl Halftime Show last month, will take the stage at London’s and Birmingham’s Wireless Festival this summer.

Live Nation has confirmed that Mars, Kanye West and Drake will serve as headliners, with OutKast, Pharrell Williams, Rudimental, Basement Jaxx and Ellie Goulding also performing.

Other musicians joining the lineup of the Live Nation-organized event include Robin Thicke, Tinie Tempah and Sean Paul, as well as Naughty Boy, Labrinth, Kid Ink, Wilkinson, Meridian Dan, Lizzo, Jon Bellion, Schoolboy Q, Javeon, Elli Ingram, Blonde, Rixton, Alec Benjamin, Say Lou Lou, Sinead Harnett, Indiana, All About She, Tori Kelly and Sasha Keable.

The 10th annual Wireless Festival will take place for the first time at London’s Finsbury Park and Birmingham’s Perry Park July 4-July 6.

West will headline Friday’s London lineup and Sunday’s Birmingham roster, while Mars will be the headline act in Birmingham Saturday and London Sunday. Drake headlines the two remaining gigs.

Last year’s Wireless Festival was headlined by Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake at London’s Olympic Park.
