Daphne Zuniga to Make Feature Directorial Debut with the Indie Thriller “The Protegé”

The 56-year-old half-Guatemalan American actress and former Melrose Place and One Tree Hill star will make her feature directorial debut with The Protegé, an indie thriller starring Jeanette Sousa, Breanne Hill, Keenan Tracey and Philip Boyd.

The film follows Amanda Birch (Sousa) who, after three years of estrangement from her family, returns to reconnect with her sister Lauren, the manager of a beloved holistic studio. Upon her return, things only get worse when her sister Lauren mysteriously dies days later. Soon, the entire family is suspected in a murder investigation as it becomes clear that Lauren’s death was no accident. Amanda leads an investigation of her own to find out who’s responsible for her sister’s murder.

Nicole Schubert and Blaine Chiappetta penned the screenplay.

Nolasco to Guest-Star on Fox’s “Gang Related”

Amaury Nolasco is joining the gang of Fox’s new midseason drama…

The 42-year-old Puerto Rican actor will guest star in at least one episode of the network’s gritty drama Gang Related, which stars Ramon Rodriguez.

Gang Related centers on Ryan Lopez (Charlie’s Angels’ Rodriguez), a rising star in an elite Gang Task Force who once belonged to a powerful Latino gang.

Nolasco, who rose to acclaim on Fox’s Prison Break, joins the thriller as Mariano, a quiet, ruthless, terrifying sociopath who heads up a cartel.

Nolasco’s most recent TV credits include ABC’s short-lived Work It and TNT’s Rizzoli & Isles.

Saundra Santiago, Terry O’Quinn (Lost), Jay Hernandez (Nashville), RZA (Californication), Shantel VanSanten (One Tree Hill), Lela Loren, Cliff Curtis (Trauma), Sung Kang (Fast & Furious), Inbar Lavi (Underemployed) and Reynaldo Gallegos (Sons of Anarchy) round out the cast.

Kid Cudi to Star in “Need for Speed” Film

The 28-year-old part-Mexican American singer/music producer-turned-actor has been cast in DreamWorksNeed for Speed, the film adaptation of the EA video game to be directed by Scott Waugh.

Need for Speed, which stars Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper and Imogen Poots on ’70s-style fast-paced high-octane cars. Paul plays Tobey Marshall, who races cross country at impossible speeds from New York to Los Angeles to get revenge on the man who killed his best friend.

Mescudi will play Paul’s best friend in the film.

Kid Cudi, as he’s known in the music world, made his acting debut in HBO’s How To Make It In America and most recently appeared in the indie film Two Night Stand. He’s also had a guest-starring roles on The Cleveland Show and One Tree Hill.

Mescudi, who has worked with Kanye West, David Guetta and most recently Jaden Smith, has contributed to soundtracks for DreamWorks’ Fright Night and The Hunger Games, which earned him an MTV Movie Award nod.

Alonso to Star in NBC’s “Revolution”

Daniella Alonso is ready for a revolution

The 33-year-old half-Puerto Rican and part-Peruvian actress has landed a role on NBC’s J.J. Abrams-produced drama Revolution.

Alonso will portray “Nora” on the eagerly awaited show. Series creator and executive producer Eric Kripke describes her character as a “rebel fighter, battling against the militia that controls North America. And she’s got a lot of rough water under the bridge with Miles, Billy Burke’s character. And she likes to blow stuff up.”

Alonso has previously had recurring roles on Friday Night Lights, One Tree Hill and Covert Affairs.

Revolution, which showcases a post-apocalyptic America where electrical devices cease functioning, debuts on September 17.
