Mars Named One of the Most Popular Artists in the World

It’s no wonder the National Football League picked Bruno Mars to perform the halftime show at this year’s Super Bowl.

The 28-year-old part-Puerto Rican singer-songwriter, who just earned his second Grammy at this year’s awards show, has been named as one of the most popular artists in the world in the past year.

Mars ranks No. 4 – behind One Direction, Eminem and Justin Timberlake – on the IFPI’s Global Recording Artists of 2013 list.

The list, recently created by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry, honors the most popular recording artists across music downloads, streaming and physical format sales

“This is a global IFPI award for a new era of music consumption, based on a new metric of global success. Our chart for the first time measures the popularity of artists across the many different ways in which fans choose their music,” said Frances Moore, chief executive of IFPI.

The chart takes into account all the artist’s music sales – across digital, CD and vinyl formats; singles, both downloaded and physical; on-demand streams and music videos. And it’s been independently verified, according to the IFPI.

Lovato Wins Two People’s Choice Awards

Demi Lovato is the People’s Latina princess…

The 21-year-old part-Mexican American singer/actress, who starred in the Disney Channel’s original movie Princess Protection Program, earned two trophies at Wednesday’s People’s Choice Awards.

Lovato took home the awards for Favorite Female Artist in the music category, beating out Selena Gomez, Britney Spears, Katy Perry and P!nk.

The former The X Factor judge also won the award for Favorite Music Fan Following. Lovato’s Lovatics beat out Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters, Katy Perry’s KatyCats, One Direction’s Directioners and Britney SpearsBritney Army.

Lovato’s double put her in great company. The “Heart Attack” singer, Sandra Bullock, Katy Perry and Justin Timberlake were the only artists to garner more than one award.

Meanwhile, Glee’s Latina stars Naya Rivera and Lea Michele’s charcaters Rachel and Santana were declared Favorite TV Gal Pals.

Fans cast more than 700 million votes to pick the winners.

Two Broke Girls actresses Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs hosted the show, and Sara Bareilles, OneRepublic and Brad Paisley performed.

Mars’ “Unorthodox Jukebox” Ranks as a Top-Seller in the U.K.

The 28-year-old part-Puerto Rican Grammy darling, who recently inaugurated The Chelsea at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, has one one of the the biggest-selling albums of 2013 in the United Kingdom.

Mars’ critically acclaimed sophomore album Unorthodox Jukebox, nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album at the upcoming Grammy Awards, ranks at No. 6 on the chart. It debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart in December 2012. It was Britain’s fastest selling album by a recording artist in 2012, selling 136,000 copies, just behind the albums by Mumford & Sons and One Directon.

With more than five million copies sold worldwide by the end of 2013, Unorthodox Jukebox is currently named the best-selling album of 2013.

Mars, the most played artist at pop radio in 2013 according to Mediabase, was named Billboard Artist of the Year by Billboard magazine.While, the album was the fifth “most streamed album” on Spotify.

Meanwhile, One Direction’s Midnight Memories was the biggest-selling artist album of the year in Britain with 685,000 copies sold
by year’s end.

Lovato Named to DoSomething.com’s Celebs Gone Good List

Demi Lovato is being honored for giving back…

The 21-year-old part-Mexican American actress/singer and now retired The X Factor judge has been named to DoSomething.com’s list of Top 20 Celebs Gone Good of 2013.

Lovato, who comes in at No. 15, is the only Latino/a artist to make the list this year.

Lovato was recognized for publishing the book Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year, (a 365-day collection of Lovato’s most powerful, honest and hopeful insights to give young people everywhere daily affirmations).

But that’s not all she did to make a difference in 2013…

Lovato also gave a lot of love to her favorite charity Free the Children throughout the year. She launched Demi’s Charity Boutique on eBay, with proceeds from the boutique’s sales supporting Free the Children, and also appeared on a celebrity edition of The Price is Right, earning almost $50,000 for Free the Children.

Other celebrities making this year’s list include Taylor Swift, One Direction, Beyoncé Knowles, the late Paul Walker, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Sandra Bullock, Ryan Seacrest and Carrie Underwood.

Aguilera to Perform “Say Something” at the American Music Awards

She may mentor aspiring singers on The Voice… But Christina Aguilera will soon be rockin’ the stage.

The 32-year-old half-Ecuadorian American singer and coach on NBC’s hit reality singing competition has been added to the growing list of performers at this year’s American Music Awards.

Aguilera will perform the power ballad “Say Something” with New York duo A Great Big World.

Aguilera and A Great Big World, as well as new addition Ariana Grande,  will join previously announced performers Rihanna, Justin Timberlake, Luke Bryan, Miley Cyrus, Florida Georgia Line, Lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Imagine Dragons, Kendrick Lamar, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, One Direction, Jennifer Lopez, TLC (with a special guest), Katy Perry and Pitbull, who will also serve as the award show’s host.

The AMAs will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in L.A. on Sunday, November 24, from 8:00 – 11:00 pm ET on ABC.

Winners are determined by fan votes at AMAvote.com. Fans also can vote on Twitter for the first time this year.

The American Music Awards is produced by Dick Clark Productions.

Pitbull to Host the 2013 American Music Awards

Pitbull is ready to show you he’s the host with the most…

The 32-year-old Cuban American rap/pop superstar has been named as the host of the 2013 American Music Awards.

Pitbull will also perform his new single “Timber” alongside Ke$ha at the ceremony, which will be held at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles and be broadcast on ABC beginning at 8:00 pm ET.

“I am truly honored to be hosting the 2013 American Music Awards,” says Pitbull in a press statement. “The night is only about one thing fun! So buckle and get ready. Dále!”

Pitbull and Ke$ha join previously announced AMAs performers Miley Cyrus, Imagine Dragons, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Luke Bryan, Kendrick Lamar, Florida Georgia Line and One Direction.

The “Give Me Everything” singer will be the show’s first host since 2008.

On last week’s Billboard Hot 100 chart, “Timber” climbed 11 spots to a new peak at No. 35.

The collaboration between the recent touring partners follows Pitbull’s 2012 album Global Warming, which included the singles “Don’t Stop The Party,” “Get It Started” and “Feel This Moment“; Pitbull performed the latter track alongside Christina Aguilera at the 2013 Billboard Music Awards last May.

Mars earned a nod in the Breakthrough Award category, which honors an artist in their first decade of headlining who cracked the top ranks of top tours for the first time. He’s up against country crooner Luke Bryan and boy band One Direction.

The 10th Annual Billboard Touring Awards, which are primarily based on box office numbers reported to Billboard Boxscore from October 1, 2012 through September 30, 2013,will take place on November 14 at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York.

Mars Receives Aria Awards Nod for Best International Artist

The 28-year-old part-Puerto Rican singer has just earned his second consecutive ARIA Award nomination for Best International Artist.

Mars will face off against Birdy, Ed Sheeran, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Michael Buble, Mumford & Sons, One Direction, P!nk and Taylor Swift in the category.

The “Locked Out of Heaven” lost out in the Best International Artist category to One Direction.

The ARIA Awards, hosted by the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA), recognize excellence and innovation across all genres of music in Australia.

The awards are judged by a panel of over 800 members from different sectors of the music industry, with some awards decided by members of the public

 

The ARIA Awards will be held on Sunday, December 1 at the Star Event Centre in Sydney.

Lovato to Present and Perform at This Weekend’s Teen Choice Awards

It will be quite a busy night for Demi Lovato at Sunday’s Teen Choice Awards

Not only is the 20-year-old part-Mexican American singer/actress nominated for six awards, The X Factor judge is also set to take the stage as a performer and presenter.

Lovato will perform her latest single “Made in the USA,” a patriotic love song that appears on her fourth studio album Demi.

Lovato took to Twitter to share the exciting news to her fans. “It’s truuue!! I’m performing #MadeInTheUSA on the Teen Choice Awards!! Tune in to Fox on Sun. and get it on iTunes!!” she wrote.

It’ll mark her first live appearance after taking a brief break to get her tonsils removed last month. She’ll join previously-announced performers One Direction, Paramore and Florida Georgia Line.

In addition, Lovato and X Factor finalists Fifth Harmony, will present the Acuvue Inspire Award, which will be given to an inspirational celebrity who has used his or her fame over the past year to make a difference in teens’ lives.

Lovato is nominated in several key categories, including Choice Female Artist, Choice Single: Female, Choice Female Hottie and Choice Smile.

Hosted by Darren Criss and Lucy Hale, this year’s Teen Choice Awards will have stars like Bella ThorneNina Dobrev, Ashton Kutcher, Ashley Benson, Liam Hemsworth, Lily Collins and Chloe Moretz presenting the awards.

The 2013 Teen Choice Awards will air live on Sunday, August 11 at 8:00 pm on Fox.

Jauregui, Cabello & Hernandez’s Fifth Harmony Hard at Work on Debut Album

Lauren Jauregui, Camila Cabello, Ally Brooke Hernandez and the rest of the members of Fifth Harmony are thisclose to completing their first album.

The female pop quintet, which was formed by Simon Cowell during this year’s edition of The X Factor, is “really far along” with its debut album, which is due out later this year via Epic Records.

During the Radio Disney Music Awards this past weekend, the ladies of Fifth Harmony told Billboard.com that they are in the middle of “picking our single” and called the vibe of the album “fun pop” with a “little bit” of R&B.

The all-girl group, which finished in third place on the Fox reality singing competition, is working with producers like Toby Gad (Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez) and Julian Bunetta (One Direction, Kylie Minogue) on the album, which will also boast a lot of songwriting from Fifth Harmony itself.
