UCP Extends Overall Development Deal with Tanya Saracho

Tanya Saracho is getting an extension…

UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, has extended an overall development deal with the Latina Mexican-American actress, playwright, dramaturge and screenwriter.

Tanya SarachoShe will develop and produce original projects for broadcast, cable and streaming platforms under the agreement.

Saracho is currently in development on several projects including the series The Wild Wild, inspired by the lives of Annie Oakley, America’s most famous sharpshooter, and the renowned trick-rider Señorita Rosalie, who were both stars of the famed Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show.

She’ll serve as co-creator and executive producer of the project along with Jenniffer Gomez, with Jamie Babbit attached to direct and executive produce.

“It’s a pleasure and honor working with Tanya and her company, Ojalá. Their creative brilliance and entrepreneurial approach to producing and writing is so rare, and we are thrilled to continue our partnership,” said Beatrice Springborn, President, UCP and Universal International Studios, in a statement to Deadline.

“I am grateful to continue my relationship with UCP and be able to keep crafting the stories that matter most to me – brown, queer narratives which are still missing from the landscape and are so important to tell, and which UCP has proven a commitment to nurturing,” shared Saracho.

Saracho most recently served as creator, showrunner and executive producer of the critically acclaimed series Vida on Starz. The show featured all Latine writers and directors, including Saracho, who made her TV directorial debut. Vida won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Comedy Series and was also honored by the National Hispanic Media Coalition with the 2019 Impact Award.

Additionally, the series won the Audience Award at the 2018 SXSW Film Festival and made its Season 2 premiere as an Official Selection of the 2019 Tribeca Film Festival.

She was the recipient of the Norman Lear Writers Award at the Imagen Awards in 2021 and was honored by the LGBTQ California Legislative Caucus as their 2020 Pride Month Honoree. She received the Rising Star Award at the Outfest Legacy Awards and was awarded the New Voice Award by Final Draft.

Saracho co-founded the Untitled Latinx Project, whose mission is to increase Latine representation in television through content created by Latine writers, along with co-founding the Writers Access Support Staff Training Program to help increase representation and opportunities for underrepresented communities.

In addition, Saracho launched the Ojalá Ignition Lab in 2021, aimed to nurture, amplify and empower intersectional Latine voices.

Maluma Releases New Single with Adam Levine & The Rudeboyz

Maluma is hoping to heal…

The 28-year-old Colombian singer, songwriter and actor has joined voices with Adam Levine and The Rudeboyz to release the highly anticipated single “Ojalá.”

The new song — produced by Maluma’s longtime collaborators The Rudeboyz — finds the Colombian star and Levine trading verses about losing a girl and getting over the heartbreak. They both declare: It won’t be easy getting over them.

“Ojalá” is the debut single from The Rudeboyz’s upcoming debut album.

The track arrived alongside a music video directed by Diane Martel via NEON16 & Sony Music Latin.

The three-minute clip starts off with Chan El Genio and Kevin ADG (The Rudeboyz) listening to an “incredible” beat they just produced and say, “What if we can get Maluma and Adam Levine on this song, we’d kill it. Can you imagine? That would be a dream.”

The artists first announced the collaboration on October 14 via social media. Levine teased a 20-second clip of the upbeat track on his TikTok page, captioning the post, “#Ojala @RUDEBOYZ @Juan Luis.”

Maluma shared the snippet to his Instagram Stories and as a post, writing on one story, “What do you think about this?” Meanwhile, The Rudeboyz wrote, “A very important release for us with people we admire a lot!!  Keep your eyes on this !! @maluma @adamlevine.”

Back in June, Levine had already hinted at a possible collaboration with Maluma. He posted a photo of them on Instagram of the two hanging out in a studio and wrote, “World ain’t ready.”

The Rudeboyz, who were recently signed by Tainy‘s NEON16, have produced hits for artists such as Shakira, Sech, Jennifer Lopez, Prince Royce and Sebastián Yatra, among others.

Maluma is getting marooned…

The 28-year-old Colombian singer, songwriter and actor is joining voices with Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine and The Rudeboyz to release the new Spanish single “Ojalá.”

The single, which will be released on October 20, features Levine singing in full Spanish for the first time.

Maluma shared the snippet to his Instagram Stories and as a post, writing on one Story, “What do you think about this?”

Levine, meantine, teased a 20-second clip of the upbeat track on his TikTok page, captioning the post, “#Ojala @RUDEBOYZ @Juan Luis.”

The Rudeboyz — a duo consisting of Chan El Genio (real name Bryan Snaider Lezcano Chaverra) and Kevin ADG (real name Kevin Mauricio Jiménez Londoño) — shared their excitement, and revealed the single’s release date on Instagram.

“#OJALA OCTOBER 20,” the duo captioned a post that included the single’s official cover art, which features all four artists posing in front of a yellow car. ️”A very important release for us with people we admire a lot!!  Keep your eyes on this !! @maluma @adamlevine.”

Maria Becerra Releases New Single “Automático”

It’s an automatic smash for Maria Becerra.

The 22-year-old Argentine singer and former YouTube star has released the new single “Automático.”

Maria Becerra,A conceptual track that focuses on getting freaky inside a car, and a state-of-the-art music video filmed in a mechanical shop, Becerra pays homage to old-school reggaetón in the new single.

Penned by Becerra and produced by Nico Cotton, the Argentine singer told Billboard she got inspired by the pioneers of reggaetón to bring this melody to life.

When asked which special guest she thinks would make for the dream remix, Becerra simply said Daddy Yankee.

“Hopefully it happens before he retires,” she expressed during this week’s Live with Billboard Latin.

 

“Automático” comes four months after Becerra’s single “Ojalá” and forms part of her sophomore album La Nena de Argentina, out later this year.

Rodriguez to Perform in Three Latin American Countries in April

Sixto Rodriguez, the Searching for Sugar Man subject, isn’t the only over-60 musician with the last name Rodriguez still going strong.

Silvio Rodriguez, the noted Cuban singer-songwriter, will be touring Costa Rica, Bolivia and Peru in April.

The 66-year-old musician, known as one of the leaders of the nueva trova movement, will give a single concert in each of the three countries.

Rodriguez will be backed by flutist and clarinet player Niurka Gonzalez and drummer Oliver Valdes.

His first performance will be on April 12 at the Ricardo Saprissa Stadium in San Jose, Costa Rica.

On April 15, Rodriguez has a concert scheduled at City Park in Santa Cruz, Bolivia; and he will close the tour with a show at Monumental Stadium in Lima on April 19.

In his nearly 50-year artistic career, Rodriguez has composed hundreds of songs and music for films, and has released more than 20 albums.

The composer of “Ojala,” “Unicornio” and “Playa Giron” made appearances in other Latin American countries last year, including Uruguay and Chile.
