Fox Orders Additional Scripts of Sotillo’s Hospital Drama “Red Band Society”

It looks like Nolan Sotillo could be in the red a little longer this season.

Fox has ordered four additional episodes of its freshman drama Red Band Society, starring the 20-year-old half-Cuban American actor and singer-songwriter.

Despite solid reviews, the hospital drama has been soft in the ratings. But, a couple of weeks into the new season, its numbers stabilized, and last Wednesday the series (1.0 among adults 18-49 in Live+SD) actually logged a one-tenth week-to-week increase. Additionally, the drama has been a major DVR gainer, getting 70-80% ratings increases in Live+7.

Backup script orders are used by the broadcast networks for freshman series they feel have shown some promise but haven’t yet proven their case for a full-fledged episodic order. Commissioning extra scripts keeps writers on the shows working, buying the network execs extra time to evaluate the series’ performance before having to make a decision on ordering more episodes.

Soltillo portrays Jordi Palacios on the series, which also stars Octavia Spencer, Dave Annable, Astro and Ciara Bravo. Wilson Cruz and Catalina Sandino Moreno also appear on Red Band Society in recurring roles.
