Raúl Castillo to Star in 20th Century Studios‘ “The Hand That Rocks the Cradle” Remake

The 47-year-old Mexican American actor and playwright has joined the cast of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle20th Century Studios remake of the classic 1992 psychological thriller starring Maika Monroe and Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Raul CastilloCastillo takes over the part of Matt McCoy as the architect husband of Winstead’s character, portrayed in the original film by Annabella Sciorra.

Claire Bartel is happily married and pregnant for the second time when she becomes the target of a dark plot on the part of a nanny — originally portrayed by Rebecca De Mornay, and now by Monroe.

Directed by Curtis Hanson, the original watches as Peyton infiltrates the lives of the Bartel family after experiencing personal and professional ruin, slowly gaining their trust while manipulating them from within. Her ultimate goal? To destroy Claire and assume her place within her family.

Michelle Garza Cervera will direct the new take from a script by Micah Bloomberg.

Leaning into genre fare of late, Castillo can currently be seen supporting Naomi Scott in Paramount’s Smile 2, which has grossed over $131M to date.

Up next, he’ll be seen in a trio of indie thrillers — Cold Wallet, Push, and Barron’s Cove — as well as the anticipated HBO limited series Task from Mare of Easttown‘s Brad Ingelsby.

Castillo is a Gotham and Independent Spirit Award nominee.

The 46-year-old Mexican American actor has been cast in Paramount‘s Smile sequel.

Raul CastilloCastillo is among a list of new cast additions that includes Miles Gutierrez-Riley, who starred in The Wilds.

The film’s plot and character details are being kept under wraps.

The duo joins the previously announced cast: Naomi Scott, Lukas Gage, Kyle Gallner, Rosemarie DeWitt and Dylan Gelula.

Smile writer and director returns for the second installment to again direct from his own script, with Temple Hill producing.

Smile 2 is currently slated for release on October 18, 2024, when it will go up against a still-unnamed title from Universal Pictures.

Going on to gross over $217M in theaters, even if it was initially set up for release on Paramount+, Smile was one of the great, unexpected box office successes of 2022. One of several original studio horror films of late to expand into a franchise, it tells the story of Dr. Rose Cotter (Sosie Bacon), a psychiatrist who becomes increasingly convinced she is being threatened by an uncanny entity, after witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient.

Castillo most recently starred in the Amazon film Cassandro opposite Gael Garia Bernal. He’s set to appear in HBO‘s Mark Ruffalo-led series, the Untitled Brad Ingelsby Task Force Project (w/t), currently in pre-production.

Prior television credits also include HBO’s Looking, Starz’s Vida and Netflix’s Atypical to name a few; Army of the DeadCha Cha Real SmoothKnives Out and We The Animals are among his film credits.

Gutierrez-Riley made his TV debut in the second season of Prime Video’s The Wilds, where he portrayed Ivan. In September 2022, Miles he starred in Paramount’s film adaptation of On The Come Up, which made its world premiere on the opening night of TIFF. Next up, he will star opposite Corey Fogelman in Tommy Dorfman’s directorial debut I Wish You All the Best, premiering at SXSW in March. It has also been announced that Gutierrez-Riley will star in Disney+’s WandaVision spinoff, Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.

The Power of the Dog leads the field with 12 nominations coming into this month’s Oscar show, and Dune is next with 10.

Anthony Ramos Now Starring Opposite Naomi Scott in Amblin Partners’ Sci-Fi Comedy “Distant”

The 28-year-old Puerto Rican actor, singer and Hamilton star will now star opposite Naomi Scott in Amblin Partners’ upcoming comedic sci-fi film Distant.

Scott joins the film after Rachel Brosnahan had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts with production on the next season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The film tells the story of an asteroid miner who, after crash-landing on an alien planet, must contend with the challenges of his new surroundings, while making his way across the harsh terrain to the only other survivor – a woman trapped in her escape pod.

Will Speck and Josh Gordon will direct. Spenser Cohen penned the spec script.

Ramos, who appears in the Hamilton musical film currently streaming on Disney+, originated the dual roles of John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical.

His other credits include Monsters and Men, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Patti Cake$ and A Star is Born. And, he’ll next star in the film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony Award-winning musical In The Heights.

Sony to Release Luis Gerardo Méndez’s “Charlie’s Angels” in China on November 15

Sony‘s reboot of Charlie’s Angels starring Kristen StewartNaomi Scott, and Ella Balinska, with the 37-year-old Mexican actor appearing in a supporting role, has landed a China release date of November 15, which is timed exactly with the film’s domestic release.

No other Hollywood titles are opening in the PRC on that date. Charlie’s Angels will face local titles Beautiful TeacherHunt DownMarnie’s Welt and Somewhere Winter.

While the film was originally scheduled to go during the first weekend in November, which is where the first 2000 movie bowed, Terminator: Dark Fatelbowed its way on to that date.

Sony moved Charlie’s Angels to November 15 domestic release date for various reasons: better access to premium screens, aiming to stoke Stewart’s Twilight fanbase (that film also launched in mid-November), plusa China release date. 

And this $48M production is going to need China with its global start after landing on domestic tracking last week with a $16M projection to Fox/Disney’s Ford v. Ferrari‘s $23M-$30M forecasted opening. The second movie from Sony Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle made just over $2M in a nascent China exhibition market before the Avatar 3D/Imax boom in the PRC. Ford v. Ferrari will play most of the IMAXglobal network on the Nov. 15-17 weekend, but Charlie’s Angels will be booked on select IMAX domestic screens and in some offshore markets.

The 22-year-old part-Puerto Rican actor will star in Sony PicturesCharlie’s Angels reboot.

Directed by Elizabeth Banks, the film stars Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scottand Ella Balinska and will focus on the next generation of elite crime-fighting detectives working for the mysterious Charlie.

Centineo’s character develops romantic sparks with one of the Angels.

Since the earlier Charlie’s Angels films, the Townsend Agency has grown considerably and gone global, providing security and intelligence services to a wide variety of private clients with offices and highly trained teams worldwide. The new film focuses on one of those teams.

Banks, Djimon Hounsou, Sam Claflin, Jonathan Tucker, Luis Gerardo Méndez and Patrick Stewart co-star in the reboot, which was scripted by Jay Basu and Banks based on earlier drafts by Craig Mazin and Semi Chellas.

Sony has set a September 27, 2019, release date for the reboot.

Centineo, known for his roles in the final three seasons of the television series The Fosters, recently starred in back-to-back Netflix rom-coms To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and Sierra Burgess Is a Loser.

Centineo next appears in rom-com feature The Stand-In.

Becky G to Star as the Yellow Ranger in “Power Rangers” Film

The 18-year-old Mexican American singer-songwriter, rap star and actress has joined the cast of Power Rangers, the Lionsgate and Saban Brands reboot of the popular franchise.

Becky G, who has appeared on television in Play It Forward and Empire, will take on the role of the Yellow Ranger.

She joins Dacre Montgomery as Red Ranger, Ludi Lin as Black Ranger, R.J. Cyler as Blue Ranger and Naomi Scott as Pink Ranger.

Dean Israelite is directing the first in what the studio and Saban hopes will be a franchise based on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers television series, which mixed a group of young actors with climactic action footage culled from the Japanese television show Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger.

The new film centers on a new group of high school kids who mix their studies and social lives with the mission to save the world.

The film has a January 12, 2017, release date.
