Cardi B to Serve as the Opening Act for This Year’s MTV Video Music Awards

Cardi B is ready to set the bar at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards…

The 25-year-old half-Dominican American rapper will serve as the opening act for this year’s ceremony.

Cardi B’s decision to hit the stage comes a month after the “Bodak Yellow” singer pulled out of Bruno Mars‘ 24K Magic World Tour to focus on motherhood.

“I thought that after giving birth to my daughter that 6 weeks would be enough time for me to recover mentally and physically,” she wrote on Instagram. “I also thought that I’d be able to bring her with me on tour, but I think I underestimated this whole mommy thing. Not only am I just not ready physically, I’m not ready to leave my baby behind since the doctors explained it’s not healthy for her to be on the road,” she said.

Cardi B, who, along with The Carters, leads the pack of MTV VMAs nominees with 10 nominations.

Along with Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, Travis Scott, Post Malone, Logic, Ariana Grande, Shawn Mendes and this year’s Michael Jackson Vanguard recipient Jennifer Lopez will grace the stage too.

The MTV Video Music Awards will take place on Monday at New York’s Radio City Music Hall at 9 p.m. ET on MTV.

Fifth Harmony’s “Down” Sees Post-MTV VMAs Sales Increase of 205%

The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards generated a sizable sales gain in digital song downloads for tracks performed on the August 27 show, including the Latina singers’ Fifth Harmony single “Down” according to Nielsen Music.

Following the all-girl group’s performance, as well as its win for Best Pop Video during the ceremony, the track jumped 205 percent in sales.

“Down” debuted at number 42 on the Billboard Hot 100 for the week dated June 24, 2017, with first week sales of 36,000 copies, 9.2 million streams and a 7.1 million audience reach.

This marked their second highest debut on this chart, following “Work from Home,” which debuted at number 12.

Meanwhile, Demi Lovato’s “Sorry Not Sorry” saw a 41 percent uptick in sales. The 25-year-old part-Mexican American singer performed the track, backed by a gospel choir, in front of a pool full of people.

“Sorry Not Sorry” debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at number 52 three days following its release.

It sold 45,000 copies in the US alone in its first three days.

Fifth Harmony Wins Best Pop Video at the MTV Video Music Awards

Ally Brooke Hernandez and Lauren Jauregui have a big reason to get down…

The Latina singers and their fellow Fifth Harmony members picked up the Best Pop Video award at Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards for the clip for their single “Down,” featuring Gucci Mane.

Fifth Harmony beat out Shawn Mendes, Katy Perry, Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran and Miley Cyrus for the award, the fourth MTV VMA Award of their career.

Meanwhile, Residente and Snow Tha Product picked up their first MTV VMA Awards.

The 39-year-old Puerto Rican rapper and the 30-year-old Mexican American hip hop artist picked up the award for Best Fight Against the System for their collaboration with K’naan and Riz MC on “Immigrants (We Get the Job Done),” from The Hamilton Mixtape.

Jared Leto & His Thirty Seconds to Mars Band Mates Release New Single, “Walk on Water”

Jared Leto is walking back into the music fold in a big way…

The 45-year-old part-Spanish singer/actor and Thirty Seconds to Mars front man and his band mates have released their first new song in four years, “Walk on Water.”

The high octane first single from the band’s upcoming fifth studio album — teased by singer Leto in an Instagram video in June, and another last week — opens with the words “Do you believe/ Walk on water,” over a chorus of “ooh ooh”‘s. Then, a big beat drops and Leto sings, “Can you even see what you’re fighting for/ Blood lust in a holy war/ Listen up hear the patriot shout/ Times are changing.”

The song will get its world television premiere during a performance at this 2017 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, August 27.

With its anthemic chorus and heart-stirring, propulsive rhythm it’s no surprise that the band has teamed with ESPN to use “Walk on Water” as the promotional theme for the sports network’s coverage of the 2017 college football coverage.

“’Walk on Water’ is a song for all of us. It’s a song about freedom, about persistence, about change and about fighting for what you believe in,” said Leto in a statement announcing the tune. “It is a call to arms but also full of all the optimism and hope that is such an integral part of the American Dream.”

The song is slated to appear on the band’s upcoming follow-up to 2013’s LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS.

A lyric video features footage shot all over the U.S. on July 4, from rodeos and Resist protest marches to President Donald Trump giving an address and fireworks displays.

Bruno Mars Earns Four MTV Video Music Awards Nominations

It’s a Magic-al time for Bruno Mars…

The 31-year-old part-Puerto Rican singer leads the Latino pack of MTV Video Music Awards nominees with four nods.

Mars, who released “24K Magic” as the lead single from the album of the same name in October, is nominated in the top two categories, Artist of the Year and Video of the Year for “24K Magic.”

He’s also up for Best Direction and Best Art Direction for the same track, which peaked at No. 4 in the United States.

The MTV VMAs will air live on August 27 from the Forum in Inglewood, CA.

Like MTV’s earlier Movie & TV Awards, the network has combined categories to remove gender designations, with the former Best Female Video and Best Male Video categories combined to become Artist of the Year.

Selena Gomez picked up two nods for her most recent collaborations.

The 25-year-old Mexican American singer/actress is nominated for Best Collaboration for her work on Charlie Puth’s “We Don’t Talk Anymore” and Best Dance for “It Ain’t Me” with Kygo.

Fifth Harmony picked up two nods, including Best Pop for the part-Latina girl group’s “Down,’ featuring Gucci Mane. The other nod comes in the Best Choreography category for the same video.

Fans vote will decide eight of the VMAs’ 15 categories, with the Artist of the Year voting live through the pre-show.

Fifth Harmony Wins Two Moonmen at the MTV Video Music Awards

It’s double the treble for Lauren Jauregui, Camila Cabello and Ally Brooke Hernandez…

The Latina singers and their fellow Fifth Harmony members won two Moonmen at the 2016 MTV Video Music Awards.

The all-girl group took home the trophy for Best Collaboration for their hit single “Work from Home,” featuring Ty Dolla $ign.

Additionally, Fifth Harmony won Song of Summer for their single “All in My Head,” featuring Fetty Wap.

The X Factor finalists now have three career wins at the MTV VMAs. They’d previously won the award for Artist To Watch at the 2014 awards show.

Beyonce ruled the night with a show-stopping performance and more awards than any other artist at the show.

The Latina singers and their fellow Fifth Harmony members have picked up their latest MTV Video Music Awards nomination, the third of their career.

The all-girl group has been nominated in the Best Collaboration category for their first Billboard Hot 100 Top 10 single “Work From Home,” featuring Ty Dolla $ign.

FKA Twigs has picked up the latest MTV VMA nod of her career. The 28-year-old part-Spanish singer, songwriter, producer and dancer, one of the celebrities featured in Calvin Klein’s latest ad campaign, is recognized in the Best Choreography category for masterminding the choreography in her “M3LL155X” music video.

The 2016 MTV Video Music Awards will air live for the first time from New York’s Madison Square Garden on Sunday, August 28 at 9:00 pm ET.

Mars Earns MTV Europe Music Awards Nomination for Best Live

Bruno Mars is known for giving high-octane performances… And, he soon could have a prize to cement his status as a superstar live performer.

The 28-year-old part-Puerto Rican singer-songwriter, whose Super Bowl performance earlier this year was seen by a record 115.3 million viewers, has earned an MTV Europe Music Awards nomination for Best Live.

Mars, who won the Best Song prize at last year’s MTV EMAs, faces stiff competition from Beyonce,
Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry and One Direction.

Ally Brooke Hernandez, Camila Cabello and Lauren Jauregui and their fellow Fifth Harmony band mates have earned their first-ever MTV Europe Music Award nod. The all-girl group, winners of the MTV Artist to Watch award at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, are up competing for Best U.S. Act against Katy Perry, Beyonce, Eminem and Pharrell Williams.

In all, Katy Perry leads the pack of MTV Europe Music Awards nominees with seven nominations.

Like last year, MTV will broadcast a U.S. pre-show telecast, this time from Miami, on Sunday, November 9 at 7:00 pm ET/PT ahead of the actual awards show, which will take place from Glasgow’s Hydro at 9:00 pm ET/PT.

Voting is open in all categories on MTVEMA.com and closes Nov. 8 at 11:59 p.m. CEST.

Fifth Harmony Named MTV Artist to Watch at the MTV Video Music Awards

Ally Brooke Hernandez, Camila Cabello and Lauren Jauregui have officially hung the moon(man).

The Latina singers and their fellow Fifth Harmony members, who performed their single “BO$$” during the MTV Video Music Awards pre-show, won their first-ever Moonman during Sunday night’s awards show.

The all-girl group, created by Simon Cowell on Fox’s singing competition The X Factor, took home the MTV Artist to Watch award for their debut single “Miss Movin On.”

“OMG! This is SO incredible! Cannot believe we just won 2014 #ArtistToWatch!! Thank you so much Harmonizers!” the band tweeted.

They later added, “We are still so overwhelmed! Harmonizers you guys are seriously the BEST!!”

Fifth Harmony beat out Sam Smith’s “Stay With Me,” 5 Seconds of Summer’s”She Looks So Perfect,”Charli XCX’s “Boom Clap” and Schoolboy Q’s “Man of the Year” for the coveted newcomer award.

Fifth Harmony’s debut album Reflection is slated for a November release.
