Guerra Leads Pack of Latin Grammy Nominees

He’s one of the most internationally renowned Latin artists in the world… And, now Juan Luis Guerra is this year’s most recognized Latin musician, at least when it comes to receiving Latin Grammy love.

During a special press conference at the Belasco Theater in downtown Los Angeles, it was announced that the 55-year-old Dominican singer, songwriter and producer has earned six nominations for this year’s Latin Grammy Awards, receiving the most nods of any of the artists nominated for the awards show’s thirteenth installment.

Guerra—a 12-time Latin Grammy winner for his distinctive blend of merengue, bolero, bachata and rock—is nominated for record and song of the year for his gospel-tinged single “En El Cielo No Hay Hospital.”

The veteran music star also scored a nod in the Producer of the Year category for his work on Juanes’ MTV Unplugged album, among other musical projects.

Meanwhile, Mexican brother-sister pop duo Jesse & Joy, winners of the best new artist Latin Grammy in 2007, earned five nods heading into Latin music’s biggest night.

The duo earned nods in the big three categories — album, record, and song of the year — for their third studio set ¿Con Quién Se Queda El Perro? and their song “Corre!

Guatemalan singer Ricardo Arjona, Colombian rocker Juanes, Cuban musician Arturo Sandoval, Brazilian singer-songwriter Ivete Sangalo and Brazilian singer-composer Caetano Veloso joined music engineer Edgar Barrera and Mexican pop singer Carla Morrison with four nominations each.

The Latin Grammy Awards will take place on November 15 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The show will be broadcast live on Univision from 8:00 – 11:00 pm ET.

Juanes Releases First MTV Unplugged Track

Following last month’s taping of his MTV Unplugged special, Juanes is releasing the first single from that night’s taping.

The 39-year-old Colombian rockero released La Señal today on iTunes.  Produced by legendary Dominican singer/songwriter Juan Luis Guerra, the song has a definite tropical feel.

La Señal is the first Latin single ever released by Universal Music Latin Entertainment specially mastered for iTunes.

Starting today, fans can pre-order the full Juanes MTV Unplugged album, also mastered for iTunes, with songs “specially tuned for higher fidelity to give fans the best possible listening experience on their computers, stereo’s and all Apple devices.”

Meanwhile, Juanes MTV Unplugged will premiere on Sunday, May 27thon MTV Latin America and Monday, May 28th on MTV Tr3s, with the album released in stores and digitally the following day on Tuesday, May 29th.

 

Unplug with Juanes!

If you’ve ever dreamt of singing a duet with Juanes, here’s your chance.

The 39-year-old Colombian rockero has launched a contest with Tr3s: MTV, Musica y Mas to give his most talented fans the opportunity to sing a duet with him during his recently announced MTV Unplugged special to be taped in February.

To take part in the contest, participants must submit their performances of a Juanes hit, like “A Dios Le Pido,” “Me Enamora,” “Fotografia” or “La Soledad.

Each week, Juanes’ fans will vote on their favorite performances until a group of finalists are chosen. Then, Juanes will make the ultimate selection.

Meanwhile, Juanes’ MTV Unplugged special will be filmed at the New World Center in Miami Beach in in February 2012. It’ll be directed by Juanes’ longtime friend Dominican singer Juan Luis Guerra.

Juanes Goes Unplugged!

It’s official… Juanes is set to give his inspired music the unplugged treatment.

The 39-year-old Colombian rockero will tape an MTV Unplugged special in Miami next February. Produced by MTV TR3s, the special will air in the United States and throughout Latin America.

And the Grammy-winning artist will get an assist from his dear friend Juan Luis Guerra. The 54-year-old Dominican singing sensation will serve as the musical director for the special, as well as the producer on Juanes’ “MTV Unplugged” album.

The equally exceptional pair, who’ve often performed and collaborated together, had talked about Guerra producing a Juanes album for months, according to sources.

The special will be taped at the New World Center in Miami Beach with guest artists and song list still to be determined.

Previous Latino artists/acts who’ve recorded an MTV Unplugged special include Ricky Martin, Julieta Venegas, Alejandro Sanz, Zoé, Los Tigres del Norte and Camila.
