The drama series will return at 9:00 pm ET on Wednesday, July 13, serving as a lead-in for Season 2 of hacker drama Mr. Robot.

Everything changed last season for the nattily attired lawyers at Manhattan’s Pearson Specter Litt. The new season of Suits picks up after last year’s cliffhanger finale.

Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams), the not-so-legitimate associate of legendary attorney Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht), is in prison. He took a plea deal to spare his colleagues and is beginning a two-year stretch, confronted with the harsh realities of life inside.

Meanwhile, the once-bustling Pearson Specter Litt offices are a ghost town: The partners have defected, leaving Harvey, Jessica (Torres), Louis (Rick Hoffman), Donna (Sarah Rafferty) and Rachel (Meghan Markle) to pick up the pieces. But the firm’s troubles are far from over and they will have to deal with the fallout from Mike’s crime before they can even begin to rebuild.

Season 6 will feature recurring guest stars including Erik Palladino, Paul Schulze and Malcolm Jamal Warner.

USA Network Renews Torres’ “Suits” for a Sixth Season

Gina Torres will be suiting up for another season…

A week into Suits’ fifth season, USA Network has renewed its flagship drama for a 16-episode sixth season.

Gina Torres

The news comes after the Season 5 premiere of the legal drama, starring the 46-year-old Cuban American actress, logged 3.4 million viewers and 1.3 adults 18-49 in Live+3.

In Live+same day ratings, Suits was down slightly from the Season 4 opener (2.13 million vs. 2.50 million) but remains USA’s top drama.

The series, created/executive produced by Aaron Korsh and set at a fast-paced Manhattan corporate law firm, is also a reliable utility player

It was just used to launch USA’s new hacker drama series Mr. Robot, which was given a second season renewal last Wednesday.

Also working for Suits is the fact that the series is owned by USA, coming from Universal Cable Prods.

“Suits has set the bar high in every way and continues to be a strong performer and marquee property for USA,” said USA president Chris McCumber. Added UCP president Jeff Wachtel, “Aaron Korsh has some great surprises for the audience at the end of Season 5 that should really set future seasons on an exciting new course.”

Along with Torres, Suits also stars Gabriel Macht, Patrick J. Adams, Meghan Markle, Sarah Rafferty and Rick Hoffman.

USA Network Looking to Adapt Telemundo’s “La Reina del Sur”

Telemundo’s La Reina del Sur is about to get an English-language makeover…

The USA Network has given a pilot order to The Queen of the South, an English-language adaptation of the blockbuster 2011 telenovela starring Kate del Castillo.

Frequent USA collaborator Fox Television Studios (White Collar, Graceland) is set to produce the project. In his television debut, feature producer David T. Friendly (Little Miss Sunshine), who brought the project to the studio, is executive producing.

Based on the best-selling book of the same by Arturo Perez-Reverte, Queen of the South is a serialized crime drama that centers on Teresa Mendoza. When her drug-dealing boyfriend is unexpectedly murdered in Mexico, Teresa is forced to go on the run and seek refuge in America, where she teams with an unlikely figure from her past to bring down the leader of the very drug trafficking ring that has her on the run. In the process, she learns the tools of the trade and strategically positions herself to become the leader of the cartel.

M.A. Fortin and Joshua John Miller (The Final Girls) wrote the script and will also executive produce the series with Pancho Mansfield.

La Reina Del Sur is not a typical telenovela, with critics noting that is feels closer to Breaking Bad than One Life To Live, and Telemundo giving it a major Emmy campaign. It was Telemundo’s most expensive telenovela ever with a budget of $10 million and became the highest-rated program in the Spanish-language network’s 19-year history, averaging nearly 4.2 million total viewers and more than 2.8 million viewers adults 18-49. Its May 30, 2011 series finale was the No. 1 broadcast program of the night, of any language.

Queen of the South joins USA’s other pilots Stanistan, Mr. Robot and Colony.
