Mozart La Para Releases New Single “Barbaro”

Mozart La Para is ready to wow

The 31-year-old Dominican rapper and singer deleted every post on his Instagram account to make way for his new single “Barbaro,” which premiered exclusively on Billboard.

Mozart La Para

Earlier this week, Mozart La Para began teasing his nearly 4 million fans on the social media app with his new music and video. “New season, another vision,” he expressed.

He first shared a WhatsAppchat he had with Tainy, introducing part of the beat. “I have a beat that I worked on with Supaand Sky, I know that if you grab it, you’ll kill it,” wrote the producer to Mozart before sending an audio message with the beat. Mozart replied, hinting at the single’s name, “that song is ‘BARBARO.’” He also shared photos and snippets of what would be the music video officially dropping Friday.

“Barbaro,” which is an expression like “wow,” is a song loaded with melodious beats, keeping true to Mozart’s urban essence and fused with flairs of Brazilian funk.

It’s co-produced by Tainy, Supa Dups, and Sky Rompiendo.

The music video, directed by Elliott Muscat, is another gem, giving us major ‘90s vibes with colorful VHS and kaleidoscope effects.

Valoy Receives “Gran Soberano Award” at the Premios Soberanos

It’s a Gran prize for Cuco Valoy

The 80-year-old Dominican singer-songwriter has received the Gran Soberano award, the top arts prize at the Dominican Republic’s Premios Soberanos.

Cuco Valoy

Valoy was given the honor during a show featuring an opening performance by Juan Luis Guerra and “Merengue KingJohnny Ventura.

Valoy, who has been performing and recording for half a century, said he was dedicating the award to Los Virtuosos, the band that accompanied him early in his career, when he was a pioneer in taking Dominican music to Europe, “where few knew where our country is located.”

Earlier in the show, the legendary singer-songwriter was honored with a performance by his son, Ramon Orlando, singer Henry Garcia and popular urban music act Mozart La Para, who joined in interpreting “Juliana,” one of Valoy’s hits.

Guerra and Ventura were joined on stage by dozens of dancers, with the performance climaxing with everyone simulating Dominican pitcher Fernando Rodney throwing an imaginary strike, a gesture that became popular in the country when the Dominican Republic won the 2013 World Baseball Classic.

Guerra also received an award in the category of most prominent artist or group abroad.

Puerto Rican reggaeton singer Wisin performed his hit, “Vacaciones,” and received huge applause from the audience when he received the Soberano International Prize.

The audience at Santo Domingo’s Eduardo Brito National Theater also enjoyed a performance by some members of the disbanded La Coco Band orchestra, founded about 30 years ago, which revolutionized merengue with contagious rhythm and simple lyrics.

Bachata artist Leonardo Paniagua, honored at the show for his long career, recalled the early days of the style, when it was difficult for him to be accepted on major stages.

Manuel & Fellow Stars Reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums with “De Puerto Rico Para El Mundo”

Manny Manuel is helping shine a chart-topping spotlight on Puerto Rico…

De Puerto Rico Para El Mundo, a compilation album by various Puerto Rican stars, including the 44-year-old Puerto Rican singer, leads Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart.

Manny Manuel

The set, which includes Pedro Capo and Ismael Miranda, soars 39-1 in its third charting week, due to sales triggered by its accompanying annual television special put on by Banco Popular, which aired on December 4 on Telemundo.

Sales following the broadcast grew more than 1,000 percent, to 2,000 copies sold in the week ending December 8.

De Puerto Rico Para El Mundo

The album features a mixture of party-ready tunes, holiday selections and patriotic songs that are popular at traditional Puerto Rican Christmas celebrations. They include remakes of Tito Nieves‘ “I Like It Like That” (performed by La Tribu de Abrante featuring Jeimy Osorio) and Vico C‘s “Bomba Para Afincar” (performed by Jowell & Randy), along with the ever-popular “Feliz Navidad” (performed by Manny Manuel featuring Mozart la Para).

Original “Feliz Navidad” singer Jose Feliciano is also featured on the star-studded festive collection. He lends his talents on the patriotic “En Mi Lindo San Juan.”
