Armando Montelongo, Jr. is set to get the independent treatment at the box office…
AMC Theaters has announced plans to run Mission Park, the first film from the 43-year-old real estate entrepreneur and reality television star’s production company Armando Montelongo Productions, in select theaters this September, as part of its AMC Independent platform.
Mission Park will be released in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and San Antonio on September 6. Other markets will follow.
The crime drama, written and directed by Bryan Ramirez in his directorial debut, is the first project from Montelongo’s San Antonio-based company, which he formed in 2011 to promote the production of independent films and cable TV programming in South Texas.
The film follows four friends who become divided when two of them fall into a life of crime and the other two become FBI agents who are sent undercover to attempt to bring their best friends down. It was filmed in San Antonio.
Mission Park stars Jeremy Ray Valdez, Walter Perez, Fernanda Romero, Joseph Julian Soria and Will Rothhaar. It also features Vivica A. Fox, Will Estes and Sean Patrick Flanery.
Mission Park won the best narrative feature, best director and best acting performance (for Perez) prizes at this year’s Boston International Film Festival, and the Special Jury Prize for Best Feature Film at the WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival.
Montelongo is the former star of A&E’s Flip This House.
