Bolivar’s costume, which depicts the pre-Columbian indigenous empress, beat out the 85 other creative outfits to earn the coveted award.

The Best National Costume award was announced during the Miss Universe 2013 preliminary round held in Crocus City Hall.

Miss Nicaragua will receive a $5,000 credit card courtesy of the Russian Standard Bank.

Bolivar’s national costume features a feathered headdress and colorful sequined embroidery.

Bolivar, who grew up in Miami and spent her summer vacations in her home country, Nicaragua, dreams of becoming an entertainment producer and enjoys being active by playing volleyball, soccer, badminton and kickboxing. She is obsessed with board games and is proud to know some basic sewing skills, a handy talent for fashion emergencies.

Machado Starring in the Telenovela “La Madame”

Alicia Machado is getting into madame mode…

The 36-year-old Venezuelan actress/singer and former Miss Universe is heading back to television as the beautiful, manipulative madame at a Colombian brothel frequented by politicians, a true story that inspired the book Las Prepago.

Alicia Machado

In La Madame, which will premiere on August 26 in the United States on UniMas, Machado portrays a strong, passionate woman who risks her life in a forbidden romance with her kidnapper.

“Unlike all the other roles I’ve played before, Madame Rochy is a real-life person,” said Machado, adding that this is jthe kind of challenge she loves as an actress.

“She is a Colombian woman from the coast, very different from me in many ways. She’s colder and more calculating than I could ever be. In every scene, when she speaks she always has a double meaning; every one of her words could signify something else, and you’re never sure exactly what she means by what she says. As an actress, projecting that duality can be a tremendous challenge,” she said.

During the course of the 50-episode series, viewers will be able to witness the sexual indiscretions at the top levels of Colombian politics during the 1990s.

But for Machado, the most interesting element of the story is how certain persistent rumors about the woman are dispelled.

“Though there’s a lot of sex and sensuality, for me this is a very feminist work that refutes the belief some people have, including some women, that a beautiful woman can’t be intelligent,” said Machado.

Machado was crowned Miss Universe in 1996 and a year later starred in her first telenovela, Samantha, in her native country.

Rivera to Star in Univision’s Upcoming “Cosita linda” Telenovela

Zuleyka Rivera has landed her next telenovela role…

The 25-year-old Puerto Rican actress and former beauty queen, who was Miss Universe 2006, has signed on to star in the Cosita linda, a new telenovela for Univision and Venevision.

Zuleyka Rivera

“I’m very happy to have signed the contract. My participation will be an antagonistic role,” Rivera told reporters after being presented as the new spokesperson for Le’dermis beauty products.

Rivera, who made her acting debut in the Telemundo telenovela Dame Chocolate in 2007, currently portrays Sandra Diaz on the soap opera Rosario.

She resumed her career as an actress after giving birth to her first child, Sebastián José Barea Rivera, with Minnesota Timberwolves point guard José Juan Barea. The baby was born Feb. 17, 2012.

While filming Rosario, Rivera participated as an extra in her first Hollywood film Runner, Runner, which stars Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck.

Cosita linda will begin filming in May in Miami.

Lopez Among the Actresses in the Running to Portray Jenni Rivera

It looks like it’s a three-way race to find the actress to portray the late Jenni Rivera in a film about her life, with Jennifer Lopez in the hunt.

The 43-year-old Puerto Rican actress is reportedly being considered to play la Diva de la Banda, as well as Angélica Vale and Alicia Machado.

Jennifer Lopez

Rosie Rivera, sister of the banda/ranchera singer who died in an plane crash in Mexico last December, told Univision that plans to shoot the film about the I Love Jenni star are going forward as part of the family’s wish to make all her dreams come true.

Even though Rivera’s family hasn’t confirmed who’ll play her on screen, the press these days has tossed around a number of names, including Vale. The 37-year-old Mexican actress is best known for her starring role in the telenovela La Fea Mas Bella.

Also mentioned repeatedly is Machado, the singer and actress who was the fourth Venezuelan woman in history to win Miss Universe.

Both she and Vale have publicly expressed their admiration for Rivera, but have also said that neither has been formally offered a role in the film.

It’s also been speculated that Lopez’s company, Nuyorican Productions, could produce the film, although no news has been forthcoming about whether J.Lo intends to portray Rivera.

Lopez previously starred in the 1997 biopic about another Latina legend, the late Selena Quintanilla, who was murdered by the former president of her fan club.

For his part, film director Francisco Joel Mendoza also told Univision that he already has the permits to begin production on the film, saying shooting could begin in April.

Navarrete Cast as the Lead Opposite William Levy in “La tempestad”

Ximena Navarrete could be receiving hate mail in the near future…

The 24-year-old Mexican actress, model and former Miss Universe has been named as the leading lady in William Levy’s next telenovela, La tempestad.

Ximena Navarrete

“… She is working a lot, studying and I expect that the year she spent at CEA (Televisa’s Centro de Educación Artística) will serve her well,” declared Salvador Mejía of Televisa Espectáculos.

Mejía admitted that it wasn’t easy to select Navarrete as Levy’s co-star.

“Very difficult because, for example, the truth is that Silvia (Navarro) did really well, she’s a great, great actress, but this is about types, chemistry and that’s how this decision came to be,” said  Mejía.

Navarrete studied acting prior to entering the Miss Universe contest in 2010, which helped her win the crown as the most beautiful woman in the world, according to Mejía.

“I believe that had a lot to do with her winning the prize of Miss Universe, since it gave her a presence, a leading lady weight, and that’s what we’re looking for,” said Mejía.

For her starring role in La tempestad, Navarrete will be undergoing a makeover, which will be revealed to the media in the next few days.

Filming on the telenovela will begin on March 4 in Veracruz, Mexico, the setting for La tempestad.
