Banda El Recodo Earns 15th No. 1 on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay Chart with “Qué Tienen Tus Palabras?”

Banda El Recodo has finally returned to the throne…

The Mexican band has reached the summit on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart as “Qué Tienen Tus Palabras?” rises 2-1 on the October 9-dated ranking.

It’s the group’s first No. 1 in over six years, and 15th leader overall. It leads with 7.6 million in audience impressions, up 10%, earned in the U.S. in the week ending October 3, according to MRC Data.

Banda El Recodo last landed at the summit with the two-week ruler “Mi Vicio Más Grande” in July 2015. In between, the group nabbed seven top 10s, including three tracks that preceded its latest effort Esta Vida Es Muy Bonita: “Hubiera Sido Como Tú” (No. 10 high, February 2020), “De Ti Me Enamoré” (No. 5 peak, August 2020) and “Voy Pa’Arriba y Con Viada” (peaked at No. 2 on the April 10-dated list).

The ranchera track “Qué Tienen Tus Palabras?” was written by Mario Martínez and Tláloc Noriega and becomes Banda’s 15th win, posting its first No. 1 in 1999 (“Adorable Mentirosa,” six weeks atop). The track concurrently pushes up the overall Latin Airplay chart (8-6) and the all-metric Hot Latin Songs tally (39-38).

Poncho Lizárraga is helping the next generation of musicians…

The 44-year-old Mexican musician and member of Banda El Recodo recently visited Rancho High School in Las Vegas to mentor aspiring musicians.

Lizárraga’s visit was part of the Latin Grammy in the Schools program — an educational initiative from the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation that offers music students the opportunity to learn about the world that surrounds the Latin music business from A-list musicians and music professionals — and included anecdotes and advice from the esteemed Banda el Recodo member.

During the same visit, Lizárraga helped present a donation from the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation with the assistance of Ford Motor Company of $20,000 that will go towards procuring instruments for the school’s music program.

The night before, Lizárraga spoke about the importance of giving back, “We’ve always looked at music as something that’s meant to be shared,” he told reporters from the press room at the MGM Grand Garden Arena after Banda el Recodo’s double win at Latin Grammys for best banda album (Mi Vicio Más Grande) and best regional Mexican song (“Todo Tuyo”).

Fifth Harmony to Perform at This Year’s Latin Grammy Awards Show

The Latina singers and their fellow Fifth Harmony members have been added to the performance lineup for this year’s awards show.

No word on what song the all-girl group, named to this year’s Billboard 21 Under 21 list, will perform, but the ladies did release a Spanish version of their hit single “Worth It.” Entitled “(Worth It) Dame Esta Noche,” was released earlier this summer.

In addition to Fifth Harmony, the Latin Recording Academy has booked OMI, Ricky Martin, Espinoza Paz, Maluma and Banda el Recodo to take the stage at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas on November 19 for Latin music’s biggest night.

Six-time Grammy winners Banda El Recodo, Latin urban phenom Maluma and regional Mexican star  Paz each received one nomination this year — best banda album for Mi Vicio Más Grande, best urban performance for “El Tiki,” and best regional song for “Perdí La Pose,” respectively.

 

Pop idol Martin is also among this year’s nominees, having scored three nods: record of the year and song of the year for “Disparo Al Corazón” and best contemporary pop vocal album for A Quien Quiera Escuchar.

Previously announced performers include Julión Álvarez, Bomba Estéreo with Will Smith, J Balvin, Choc Quib Town, Silvestre Dangond, Nicky Jam, Natalia Jiménez, Natalia Lafourcade, Juan Luis Guerra, Major Lazer and mØ, Matisse, and Raquel Sofía.

Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year Roberto Carlos will also grace the stage for a special performance.
