Martinez Nominated for Two World Soundtrack Awards

The Oscars may have marked the end of 2011-2012 awards season… But Cliff Martinez is still reaping critical acclaim for his work.

The 58-year-old Spanish-American composer—a veteran drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers—has been nominated for two 2012 World Soundtrack Awards.

The World Soundtrack Academy hands out awards in three categories: Film composer of the year; best original score of the year and best original song written directly for a film.

Martinez, who was nominated for a Satellite Award last December, has received nods in two of those categories. He’s up for film composer of the year his work on Contagion and Drive, as well as best original film score of the year for his critically acclaimed music for Drive.

But Martinez isn’t the only Latino nominee…

Like Martinez, Alberto Iglesias has been nominated in two categories.

The 57-year-old Spanish composer, who was invited to become a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences earlier this summer, has been nominated in the film composer of the year category for his work on Le Moine, Pedro Almodovar’s The Skin I Live In and Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

Last year’s Hollywood Film Composer Award winner will also face-off against Martinez in the best original film score of the year category for his Oscar-nominated score from Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

Meanwhile, songs performed by Madonna, Mary J. Blige and Sinead O’Connor are in contention for best original song written directly for a film.

Winners will be announced at the World Soundtrack Awards and concert on October 20, the closing night of the Ghent International Film Festival.

Aguilera Encounters an Olympic Icon in New “The Voice” Promo

Christina Aguilera and her fellow The Voice coaches are getting into the Olympic spirit…

The NBC singing competition returns for on September 10, and the network is hoping to build buzz for the third season during coverage of the London Games with an Olympics-themed promo.

The 31-year-old half-Ecuadoran American singer and Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green all step out of insta-iconic red chairs in the clip, which features the four judges fighting in a hotel lobby.

Levine and Shelton get involved in some hand-to-hand combat, while Green, looking fashionable in a bright-yellow ensemble, shows off his best karate chop.

The four coaches eventually make their way to a hotel room where they spot a man singing. But he’s not just any man.

“Wow, it’s Bruce Jenner from The Kardasians,” says Levine.

“I also won a gold medal. ’76. Montreal,” says the former Olympic decathlete.

The third season of The Voice will feature a collection of new aspiring singers looking for their big break, and also some new mentors to help them along the way. Aguiler, who is currently at work on new music, will be joined by Green Day’s Billy Joe Armstrong. The other mentors this season include Rob Thomas, Mary J. Blige and Michael Buble.

The Voice premieres Monday, September 10, on NBC.

Aguilera Selects Green Day’s Armstrong as a “Voice” Mentor

Christina Aguilera is going green (day) on The Voice this season…

The 31-year-old half-Ecuadorian American singer—currently at work on a new album—will be joined by Green Day frontman Billie Jo Armstrong on the upcoming season of NBC’s hit singing competition series as a mentor on Aguilera’s team, according to the network.

“We are ready to rock out in Season 3!” read a post to the show’s Twitter feed.

Armstrong joins previously announced mentors Rob Thomas, Mary J. Blige and Michael Buble, who will be guiding singers in the early rounds of the competition alongside coaches Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton, respectively.

Previously, Aguilera worked with Sia Furler in The Voice’s first season and Jewel and Lionel Richie in the second season.

The Voice premieres on September 10 at 8:00 pm ET on NBC.

Boneta Featured in First “Rock of Ages” Clip

It’s no wonder Diego Boneta received CinemaCon’s Rising Star of 2012 Award, especially after the release of the first clip of his highly anticipated musical Rock of Ages

Aimed at building buzz for the U.S. release of the film, Warner Bros. Pictures released the snippet, which shows the 21-year-old Mexican singer/actor and his co-star Julianne Hough shopping for vinyl at a record store before breaking into a head-banging rendition of Foreigner‘s “Jukebox Hero.”

Rock of Ages, an adaptation of the hit Broadway musical, centers on small town girl Sherrie (Hough) and city boy Drew (Boneta) ,who meet on the Sunset Strip while pursuing their Hollywood dreams. Their rock ‘n’ roll romance is told through the classic hits of Def Leppard, Joan Jett, Journey, Bon Jovi, Night Ranger, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Twisted Sister, Poison, Whitesnake and more.

Along with Hough and Boneta, Rock of Ages stars Tom Cruise as rock star Stacee Jaxx, Sherrie and Drew’s idol. Other members of the ensemble include  Malin Akerman, Russell Brand, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Alec Baldwin, Mary J. Blige, Paul Giamatti and Bryan Cranston.

Directed by Adam Shankman, Rock of Ages will open in theaters nationwide on June 15.

Boneta Rocks Out on “Rock of Ages” Soundtrack

He may have boyish good looks… But, Diego Boneta can rock like nobody’s business…

The 21-year-old Mexican singer/actor—who will be making his big screen debut in the film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Rock of Ages next month—lends his voice to several tracks on the film’s rocktastic soundtrack.

Boneta—who released his Spanish-language debut album Diego while starring on the hit Mexican telenovela Rebelde—performs classic ‘80s-era hard rock anthems like Night Ranger’s “Sister Christian,” Twisted Sister’s “I Wanna Rock” and Foreigner’s “Waiting For A Girl Like You.”

In addition to Boneta’s stellar vocals, the 20-song soundtrack will feature tracks by the film’s A-list stars, including Tom Cruise, Mary J. Blige and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Pitbull to Perform at NBA All-Star Game…

Mr. Worldwide is about to get his (all-star) game on…

Pitbull has signed on to perform at the NBA All-Star Game at the end of the month.

The 31-year-old Cuban American—who gave a high-octane performance In New York City’s Times Square on New Year’s Eve—will team up with Ne-Yo to perform their hit single “Give Me Everything” during the All-Star Game halftime show.

Pitbull will be following in the footsteps of Rihanna, Drake and Kanye West, who rocked the halftime show at last year’s NBA All-Star Game.

Before the big game, Nicki Minaj will perform a medley of her singles, including her brand new track “Starships” and her smash hit “Super Bass,” during the All-Star Game introductions.

Meanwhile, Mary J. Blige will perform the U.S. national anthem prior to the game, with pop group Neverest delivering the Canadian anthem.

Taking place in Orlando on February 26, the showdown between the NBA’s all-star teams will be broadcast on TNT.

Anthony’s Date with the AMAs…

He’s getting major radio airplay as a featured guest on Pitbull’s “Rain Over Me”… And, now Marc Anthony is preparing to make a splash
at this year’s American Music Awards.

The 43-year-old Puerto Rican salsa singer has been added to the star-studded line-up of performers at this year’s show, along with Chris Brown and LMFAOMarc Anthony Performing at the AMAs

Anthony joins previously announced acts Pitbull, Christina Aguilera, Justin Bieber, Mary J. Blige, Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry and
Maroon 5.

Adele received the most nominations this year with four. Meanwhile, Bruno Mars and Pitbull ranked as the top Latino nominees with two nods each.
