David “Leche” Ruiz is joining the cavalry

Following the success of Netflix’s Who Killed Sara?which the streamer has reported as its most-watched foreign language series at 55-million subscribers, Cavalry Media has signed the Mexican director and screenwriter, the show’s director.

Ruiz, who is based in Mexico City, Mexico, began his career directing music videos, before quickly becoming one of the most prolific filmmakers in his field.

Ruiz directed six episodes of Who Killed Sara?, including the pilot and the finale.

The series stars Manolo Cardona as Alex Guzman, a man hell-bent on getting revenge on the Lazcano family and finding out who killed his sister Sara after spending 18 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. The series launched on March 24 and Netflix revealed viewership figures as part of its first quarter financial results on April 20.

Ruiz will be the showrunner, as well as direct multiple episodes of season 2, which hit Netflix on May 16. Other episodic directing credits include Claro Video’s La Negociadora and Televisa’s La Piloto

The 43-year-old Colombian actor’s Mexican thriller series Who Killed Sara? has become Netflix’s most popular non-English language title ever with an estimated 55M subscribers tuning in since its launch last month.

The series stars Cardona as Alex Guzman, a man hellbent on finding out who killed his sister Sara after spending 18 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit and on getting revenge on the Lazcano family.

It launched on March 24 and the streamer revealed the figures as part of its first quarter financial results.

Other international highlights include feature film Below Zero from Spain, which was watched by 47M in its first four weeks.

“Another goal is to create great, locally authentic stories in countries all around the world. It’s why our priority for local language titles is to have a big impact in the home territory so we don’t sacrifice local impact for travelability. But we’re increasingly seeing that these local titles find significant audiences around the world, which supports our thesis that great stories are universal: they can come from anywhere and be loved everywhere,” it noted.

Netflix Renews Manolo Cardona’s Spanish Mystery Drama Series for Second Season

The Sara chronicles will continue for Manolo Cardona

Days after the season 1 premiere, Netflix has given a season 2 renewal to Spanish mystery drama series Who Killed Sara?, starring the 43-year-old Colombian actor.

It’s slated to premiere on May 19 on the streaming service.

In addition to Cardona, the series stars Carolina Miranda, Ginés García Millán, Claudia Ramírez, Eugenio Siller and Alejandro Nones.

Matías Novoa, Daniel Giménez Cacho and Antonio de la Vega have joined the cast of the series for the second season.

In Who Killed Sara?, after 18 years of unjust imprisonment, Alex Guzmán (Cardona) is released from prison with the perfect plan to discover who killed his sister Sara (Ximena Lamadrid) and why the Lazcano family blamed him for the crime. What he doesn’t imagine is that the search for evidence will confront him with a much more dangerous detour than imagined: he will fall in love against his better judgment with Elisa (Miranda), the daughter of his main suspect, and, at the same time, will be horrified to learn that it is Sara’s secrets that will be the main obstacle to reach the truth. Therefore, when he finally confronts the true perpetrator of the crime, Alex will wish he had never begun his revenge.

The second season also will feature Lamadrid, Leo Deluglio, Andrés Baida, Ana Sofía Domínguez, Polo Morín, Luis Roberto Guzmán, Fátima Molina, Ela Velden and Litzy Domínguez among others.

Urbina to Star in Netflix’s Drama Series “Narcos”

The 30-year-old Colombian actor has joined the cast of Netflix’s drama series Narcos as a series regular.

Directed by Jose Padilhathe series centers on notorious Colombian cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar and Javier Pena, a Mexican DEA agent sent to Colombia on a U.S. mission to capture and ultimately kill him.

Narcos is basically the true-life story of the growth and spread of cocaine drug cartels across the globe and attendant efforts of law enforcement to meet them head on in brutal, bloody conflict.

Urbina will play Fabio Ochoa, one of a trio of Colombian brothers, all playboy drug dealers, who works in the cocaine business with his brothers.

Narcos, which was written by Chris Brancato, also stars Manolo Cardona, Wagner Moura and Pedro Pascal.

Urbina’s previous television credits include appearances on The Mentalist and Grey’s Anatomy.

The 37-year-old Colombian actor has landed a series regular role opposite Wagner Moura and Pedro Pascal on Netflix’s drama series Narcos.

Narcos, written by Chris Brancato and directed by Jose Padilha, is the true-life story of the growth and spread of cocaine drug cartels across the globe and attendant efforts of law enforcement to meet them head on in brutal, bloody conflict.

The series centers on notorious Colombian cocaine kingpin Pablo Escobar (Moura) and Javier Pena (Pascal), a Mexican DEA agent sent to Colombia on a U.S. mission to capture and ultimately kill him.

Manolo will portray Eduardo Mendoza, the baby-faced chief of the National Prison System, an inexperienced, kind, idealistic man-child with a can-do attitude who was wrongly blamed for Escobar’s escape from La Catedral.

Cardona recently recurred on CW’s Reign and USA’s Covert Affairs.

Cardona will portray Tomas, the dashing Prince of Portugal. He’s playful and seemingly grounded though he may have a sinister, sadistic, and completely amoral soul.

Cardona recently wrapped an arc on USA’s Covert Affairs as Arthur’s (Peter Gallagher) son Teo Braga.

Cardona’s credits include Beverly Hills Chihuahua and Border Run.

The 35-year-old Colombian actor and telenovela star has landed a multi-episode recurring role on USA‘s spy drama Covert Affairs, which stars Piper Parabo.

Cardona, who was cast in the network’s untitled pilot starring Miss Bala star Stephanie Sigman, will portray Teo Braga, an enigmatic Colombian rebel leader. Described as “brilliant and brooding,” he harbors secrets about his past that will greatly affect Annie (Parabo), Auggie and the other members of the CIA.

The stint reunites Cardona with Parabo, his co-star in Beverly Hills Chihuahua.

Cardona’s next film will be Border Run.

Cardona Joins the Cast of USA’s Unititled Miami-Based Pilot

He’s already a big star in Latin America… But Manolo Cardona may soon be wowing audiences in the United States.

In what could be his first acting role on English-language television, the 35-year-old Colombian-born actor has joined the cast of USA’s untitled hour-long pilot from Numbers creators Nicolas Falacci & Cheryl Heuton.

Based on a short story from Elmore Leonard‘s When The Women Come Out To Dance, it centers on Billy (Bryan Greenberg), a Miami businessman who, contemplating a run for political office, tries to increase his chances of being elected by marrying Lourdes (Miss Bala star Stephanie Sigman), a Colombian woman on the run from her troubled past.

What starts as a marriage of convenience quickly escalates into much more as his new wife proves to be more resourceful at “fixing” any problem the corrupt South Miami political scene throws at her husband.

Cardona will play Andres Varges, a handsome political science professor at the University of Miami. A man with a past he’d rather forget, he once worked for Colombian military intelligence and agrees to help Lourdes when she seeks him out for his expertise in the political arena, despite the complicated past between the two.
