Pablo Alborán is set to honor Mexico’s most popular rock band…

The 29-year-old Spanish singer-songwriter will perform at the Latin Recording Academy’s Person of the Year gala honoring Maná.

Alboran, a three-time nominee for this year’s Latin Grammys, joins an all-star list of artists paying homage to the Mexican band for their creative accomplishments and philanthropic contributions to the Latino community.

In addition to the “No vaya a ser” singer, the other performers include fellow 2018 nominees Enrique Bunbury, Mariachi Sol de México de José Hernández, Iza, Beatriz Luengo, Vetusta Morla, Monsieur Perine, Gilberto Santa Rosa and Sebastian Yatra.

In addition to four-time Latin Grammy winner Pepe Aguilar and two-time Latin Grammy and Grammy winner Draco Rosa, José María Cano accompanied by his son Dani, Daniel Habif, Arthur Hanlon, Ara Malikian, La Marisoul, Orianthi and Piso 21 will also perform at the star-studded event.

The Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year Gala, hosted by Jaime Camil and Soledad Pastorutti, will take place the night before the Latin Grammys on Wednesday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Maná is preparing for a grito in Nevada…

The legendary Mexican rock band will celebrate Mexican Independence Day with two concerts at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

The just-announced shows will take place September 15 and 16, celebrating Mexicans’ revolt against Spanish rulers — not be confused with Cinco de Mayo, which celebrates the Mexican victory over French troops in the Battle of Puebla.

While the band’s announcement did not mention anything about Donald Trump, the choice of celebrating Mexican Independence Day in a U.S. venue may be a jab at the current U.S. president from the band, particularly frontman Fher Olvera, who has frequently spoken out against Trump’s immigration policies and his statements about Latinos.

“Sometimes the results disappoint us or worry us, but they should never get us on our knees,” the singer said the day after the election. “Us Latinos will continue to keep our head up high and work to change what we don’t like, to have the life, country and world we want.”

The Las Vegas shows, which will be Maná’s only U.S. arena concerts in 2017, can be expected to rival the energy of the most fervent political rally.

Tickets go on sale Friday, March 31, at 10 a.m. PST.

Nicky Jam Receives Four iHeartRadio Music Award Nominations

Nicky Jam is getting some much deserved radio recognition…

The 35-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American singer-songwriter received four iHeartRadio Music Award nominations, including one in a non-Latin category.

Nicky Jam, the most-nominated Latino artist, is up for Latin Artist of the Year, where he’ll face off against Enrique Iglesias, J Balvin, Prince Royce and Yandel.

The Latin Grammy winner also received two nominations in the Latin Song of the Year category for his recent collaborations: Mana’s remake of “De Pies A Cabeza” and Reik’s “Ya Me Enteré.”

But Nicky Jam’s biggest nod comes in the Best Music Video category for his popular “Hasta El Amanecer” clip. He’s up against the likes of Justin Timberlake, The Chainsmokers, Beyonce, Coldplay, ZAYN, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna.

Meanwhile, Selena Gomez is the most-nominated Latina artist with two nods. She’s up for Female Artist of the Year and Best Fan Army for her avid followers, the Selenators.

Fifth Harmony, featuring Latina singers Ally Brooke Hernandez, Lauren Jauregui and Camila Cabello, who recently left the group, earned three nods.

Bruno Mars was revealed as the event’s first announced performer. The part-Puerto Rican singer is also is nominated in the socially voted covers category for his rendition of Adele‘s “All I Ask.”

Other Latino nominees include Demi Lovato, Gerardo Ortiz, Sofia Reyes and CNCO.

The awards are intended to celebrate the music heard across iHeartMedia radio stations over the past year.

Voting for the fan army award began Tuesday through iHeartRadio’s social media accounts and its app, with all other categories now open, and runs through February 24, with the fan army award extending to the night of the event on March 5. Fans can vote by visiting iHeartRadio.com/awards.

The 2017 iHeartRadio Music Awards will air live from the Forum in Inglewood, California on March 5 at 8:00 pm EST on TBS, TNT and truTV.

De La Tierra Releases New Single “Puro”

De La Tierra is back with new music…

The Latin American heavy metal supergroup has released “Puro,” the first single from its upcoming sophomore album.

De La Tierra, whose stated mission is to “elevate the roots of the Latin American continent where they were born,” will release their second album, II, on November 18 through Sony Music Latin.

The all-star band made up of Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser, Andrés Giménez of Argentina’s A.N.I.M.A.L., Los Fabulosos Cadillacs bassist Sr. Flavio and drummer Alex Gonzalez of Maná released their debut in 2014 and followed up with a slate of touring that included opening for Metallica on South American dates and playing Rock in Rio and other major festivals.

“This song talks about how life can take us in different directions, good or bad,” says Giménez of the gristly track. “Our soul is unbreakable. It’s up to us to understand if it’s time to be born, to grow, or to die. The payoff is always there. Nothing is easy, but nothing is impossible as long as you keep the pure power inside your heart.”

Juanes’ “Fuego” Rises to No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay Chart

The 44-year-old Colombian musician has earned his 11th No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart (dated Nov. 12) with his latest single, “Fuego,” soaring 6-1 in its fourth charting week (with a 33 percent rise, to 13.7 million audience impressions in the week ending October 30 according to Nielsen Music).

The track takes Airplay Gainer honors there and on the multi-metric Hot Latin Songs chart, where it hops 18-14.

Maná is a band on top…

The Mexican rock band, known as the U2 of Spanish rock, and Nicky Jam rise 7-1 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart with their collaborative single “De Pies a Cabeza.”

The single, a revamped version of Maná’s 1992 version of the song, soars 47 percent at radio to 15 million audience impressions in the week ending September 18, according to Nielsen Music.

While the chart move gives Nicky Jam his fourth chart-topper, Maná earns its 11th No. 1.

Maná now has the most No. 1s among duos or groups; they were previously tied with Wisin & Yandel, with 10.

Among all acts, Enrique Iglesias leads with 28 No. 1s in the nearly 22-year history of the chart. He’s followed by Ricky Martin (with 15), Carlos Vives (12) and then Marc Anthony, Gloria Estefan, Maná, Romeo Santos and Shakira — all with 11 each.

The original version of the song appeared on the group’s debut charting album, Donde Jugaron Los Niños?

On the Hot Latin Songs chart (which blends airplay, sales, and streams), “De Pies a Cabeza” lands in the top 10, flying 17-8 in its sixth charting frame. Along with Airplay Gainer honors, digital downloads also aid in the climb with an 11 percent hike (to 1,000 downloads in the week ending Sept. 15).

Pitbull to Receive His Own Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Pitbull is finally reaching Star status…

Two years after it was announced that the 36-year-old Cuban American rap superstar would get his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has finally set a date for Mr. Worldwide to unveil his star.

On Friday, July 15, Pitbull will be honored with the 2,584th star, which will be located in front of Eastown located in Celia Cruz Square.

Guest speakers at the ceremony include actor and rapper Luther Campbell and motivational speaker and author Tony Robbins.

“The world is fascinated by Pitbull’s story and his remarkable talent. The Hollywood community welcomes him with open arms and applauds him for his work by placing him on one of the world’s most famous landmarks, the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” said Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies in a statement.

The chart-topping artist and entrepreneur, who is currently touring the U.S. with Prince Royce and Farruko, has won one Grammy, two Latin Grammys and seven American Music Awards.

He joins a long list of Latin artists who have unveiled their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame including Thalía, Jennifer Lopez, Vicente Fernández, Angélica María, Maná, among others.

Bosé Adds Pablo Alborán, Ximena Sariñana & More to His MTV Unplugged Concert Guest List

Miguel Bosé is unplugging with more Latin superstars…

The Spanish musician and actor has added Pablo Alborán, Maná‘s Alex and Sergio and Ximena Sariñana to the list of special guests slated to take part in his MTV Unplugged concert.

The additions join previously announced Latin superstars Fonseca, Marco Antonio Solís, Natalia Lafourcade and Benny Ibarra for the musical event.

Alborán took to social media to confirm his appearance alongside his fellow Spaniard.

“I have landed in Mexico City where we are ready to shoot Bosé’s MTV Unplugged. It will be a special and magical night and I think everyone will really enjoy it,” said the “Se Puede Amar” singer on Instagram.

 

The Spanish singer/songwriter’s Unplugged is set to be recorded on Thursday, May 12 in Mexico City and will be aired in the U.S and throughout Latin America in September.

Bosé joins a long list of Latin acts who have recorded an MTV Unplugged including Café Tacvba, Shakira and Los Tigres del Norte.

Nicky Jam and Enrique Iglesias have plenty of reason to celebrate…

The 35-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American singer/songwriter and 40-year-old Spanish singer-songwriter were the big winners of the 2016 Billboard Latin Music Awards, propelled by their global hit “El Perdón.”

Nicky Jam and Iglesias collected six trophies each, including Hot Latin Song of the Year, Vocal Event, Airplay Song of the Year, Digital Song of the Year, Streaming Song of the Year and Latin Rhythm Song of the Year. Additionally, Iglesias won Latin Pop Songs Artist of the Year, Solo, while Nicky Jam won Latin Rhythm Songs Artist of the Year, Solo.

After thanking God, his genre Latina, Billboard and the people of Colombia and Puerto Rico, Nicky Jam gave a shout-out to his father, who he was separated from for much of his childhood. “I never brought home to you a medal from school,” he said. “But here is your medal, Papi.”

Right behind in the trophy haul was Mexican singer/songwriter Juan Gabriel, a comeback success story who won Tour of the Year and whose album of duets, Los Duo, won for Top Latin Album of the Year and Latin Pop Album of the Year. Gabriel also won Top Latin Albums Artist of the Year, Male and Latin Pop Albums Artist of the Year, solo, and was honored with the special Billboard Star Award.

“This doesn’t seem real,” said a giddy Juan Gabriel, the first winner of the night. “I’m amazed. I’m surprised. I am very happy to be here for the first time.”

Other top winners of the evening included Romeo Santos, who won Artist of the Year, Mana, who won Top Latin Albums Artist of the Year, Duo or Group, and Shakira, who won Social Artist of the Year.

Maná and Los Tigres del Norte join forces to speak out against presidential hopeful Donald Trump.

At this year’s Latin Grammy Awards, the iconic Mexican bands used music as a means to convey an important political message at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.

Maná, the most beloved pop/rock band in the Spanish speaking world, and Los Tigres del Norte, the voice of the immigrant community – came together on Thursday night to make a statement about the unprecedented power of the Latino vote in the upcoming 2016 election.

Performing Los Tigres’ norteño anthem “Somos Más Americanos,” Maná and the band from San Jose, Calif. reaffirmed the fact that the Latino vote matters.

Beyond that, the message seemed to be one about using one’s vote wisely and the audience, standing throughout the entire performance, seemed to agree.

At the end of the song, Maná unveiled a sign that read “Latinos unidos no voten por los racistas,” which can be taken as a not-so-subtle reference to presidential hopeful Trump.

It’s not the first time the band has spoken out on Trump. During its most recent tour run, Maná frontman Fher compared the GOP candidate to Adolf Hitler.

On the red carpet, Fher reaffirmed the band’s message. “We love playing the Latin Grammys but we’re using this opportunity to express the power that Latinos have in this country,” he told Billboard. “There are more than 50 million Latinos — the US has the second highest number of Spanish-speaking people in the world, after Mexico. Imagine that. That means that Latinos have garnered a lot of power and it’s time to demand respect. So we’re asking people to register to vote and vote for candidates who are offering the best for every hard-working Latino in this country. That’s our message: Use your vote to change things. Vote for a human being who doesn’t discriminate; who is not racist, to put it bluntly.”

The website somosmas2016.com, powered by Voto Latino voter mobilization org, went live simultaneously during the live performance. People can register to vote or pledge to vote directly on the site.
