Sony Releases First Trailer for Freddie Prinze Jr.’s New “I Know What You Did Last Summer” Film

Sony has released the first trailer for I Know What You Did Last Summer, starring the 49-year-old part-Puerto Rican actor.

For fans of the first three films, the plot here is familiar. The film sees five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, covering up their involvement in a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge. As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover that this has happened before, and turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.

Original cast members Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt are back, even if it’s unclear which other prior members of the horror universe might pop up.

In a recent interview with People, director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson was asked whether Brandy Norwood might reprise her role as Karla Wilson, the college bestie of Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Julie, from sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, though she demurred, saying, “You’ll have to go see the movie.”

Franchise newcomers to appear alongside Prinze Jr. and Hewitt include Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, Sarah Pidgeon, Billy Campbell, Gabbriette Bechtel, Austin Nichols, Lola Tung and Nicholas Alexander Chavez.

Robinson, the filmmaker behind dark comedy Do Revenge and rom-com Someone Great, directed the Columbia Pictures title from her script written with Sam Lansky, which is based on her story conceived with Leah McKendrick. Neal H. Moritz returned to produce — in a full-circle moment, after producing the original 1997 film early in his career — with Robinson, Jackie Shenoo, and Karina Rahardja exec producing.

The original I Know What You Did Last Summer follows four young friends (played by Prinze, Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe) bound by a tragic accident who are reunited when they find themselves being stalked by a hook-wielding maniac in their small seaside town. Prior sequels to the hit horror pic, loosely loosely based on the novel by Lois Duncan, were released in 1998 and 2006.

Today’s trailer is the same one shown for exhibitors at CinemaCon earlier this month.

Freddie Prinze Jr. has locked up his summer plans…

The 48-year-old part-Puerto Rican actor has officially joined Sony‘s I Know What You Did Last Summer sequel film, reprising the role of Ray Bronson from the original 1997 movie and its 1998 follow-up.

Freddie Prinze Jr.Prinze Jr and his co-star Jennifer Love Hewitt has been negotiating their return to the franchise continuation project when it was confirmed to be in development in early 2023. Hewitt is reportedly still very much in negotiations to reprise the role of Julie James.

The previously announced cast includes Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers and Jonah Haur-King.

Plot details for this latest installment are unknown.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is directing the latest installment of the horror film franchise, written by Sam Lansky and Kaytin Robinson from a draft by Leah McKendrick. Neal Moritz is producing.

Sony Pictures will release the film in theaters on July 18, 2025.

I Know What You Did Last Summer, loosely based on the Lois Duncan novel of the same name, was a hit that led to the development of the sequel I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, which premiered in 1998.

A direct-to-video third installment of the franchise titled I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer (2006) is considered a stand-alone sequel as the story diverged from the first two installments and had no original cast reprising their roles.

In 2021, Prime Video premiered the I Know What You Did Last Summer TV series from Sara Goodman based on the Duncan novel produced by Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television. The series, which ran for one season, starred Madison Iseman, Bill Heck and Brianne Tju among others.

Camila Mendes to Star in “I Know What You Did Last Summer” Reboot

Camila Mendes’ has added to her summer plans.

The 30-year-old Brazilian American actress and Riverdale star has joined the cast of the highly-anticipated I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot as a new lead.

Camila MendesMendes will star alongside Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers and Jonah Hauer-King as the leads in the film.

Sony Pictures, who will distribute film, is in talks with Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. to their reprise roles from the original films.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is directing the film from a screenplay she co-wrote with Sam Lansky after an initial script from Leah McKendrick. Neal Moritz, one of the producers of the original, is producing the reboot.

The film will bow on July 18, 2025.

The original hit theaters on October 17, 1997, grossing $72 million at the box-office. The cast included Hewitt, Prinze, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe in the story about four young friends who are stalked by a villain with a hook after they tried to cover up hitting him with their car.

The film overperformed so well it received a sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.

Mendes’ previous credits include The New Romantic, Palm Springs and Upgraded.

Rigo Sanchez is headed to the Outer Banks…

The Latino actor has joined the cast for the fourth season of Netflix’s Outer Banks, which has been a breakout show for the streamer over its past three seasons.

Rigo SanchezSanchez is among a roster of new cast additions that includes Pollyanna McIntosh, J. Anthony Crane, Brianna Brown and Mia Challis.

Created by Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke, Outer Banks is a coming-of-age story that follows a tight-knit group of local teens — the “Pogues” — in the beach vacation destination of the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Sanchez will portray an imposing stranger with a piratical nerve.

The young adult action-adventure drama stars Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss and Rudy Pankow and follows a group called The Pogues in a coastal town in North Carolina where the wealth divide is stark.

Sanchez’s previous credits include appearances on Animal Kingdom, Station 19, Goliath, McFarland, USA and Queen of the South.

Fiona Palomo to Appear on Season 3 of Netflix’s Series “Outer Banks”

The 23-year-old Mexican actress has joined the cast of Netflix’s Outer Banks for the series’ third season.

Palomo will play Sofia, who identifies as a Pogue, but secretly yearns to be a part of the country club crowd. Likable and scrappy, she starts to form a close connection with Rafe (Drew Starkey).

McQueen will play Carlos Singh, a Caribbean Don who is intelligent, refined, and ruthless, and is out on a treasure hunt of his own.

Ferrigno will play Ryan. Calm and collected but young and hungry, he is Singh’s top security officer and enforcer. He’s done enough jobs to keep a cool head but also knows what could happen if he fails.

Outer Banks is a coming-of-age story that follows a tight-knit group of local teens (the “Pogues”) in the beach vacation destination of the Outer Banks of North Carolina. After their near-death escape, Season 2 finds John B (Chase Stokes) and Sarah (Madelyn Cline) on the run — and in over their heads — in the Bahamas.

New friends also bring new foes as they’re back on the trail of the gold, while the stakes for Kiara (Madison Bailey), Pope (Jonathan Daviss) and JJ (Rudy Pankow) escalate at home. The $400 million is still in the game, but will the uncovering of a new-found secret reunite the group for a fresh mission? The adventure of a lifetime awaits, but uncharted waters ahead mean they must do all they can to make it out alive.

Previously announced returning talent also includes Austin North, Charles Esten and Carlacia Grant who has been upped to series regular for Season 3.

The series is created by Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke, who will all return as showrunners and executive producers.
