Along with promoting their new M.A.C. Viva Glam products to the world— appropriately called Viva Glam Ricky and Viva Glam Nicki—Martin and Minaj are using their star power to promote HIV/AIDS awareness.

“Let’s take the power that we have, and let’s tell the world that this is still a very big issue,” says Martin.

Minaj, meantime, said she always wanted to be a part of Viva Glam, “because they give back to people with AIDS,” she said. “They’re in need of food, they’re in need of shelter, they’re in need of medicine. M.A.C. and this lipstick make it possible.”

One hundred percent of the proceeds from the M.A.C. Viva Glam lipstick and lip gloss will be donated to the M.A.C. AIDS Fund.

“MAC is once again at the intersection of fashion and pop culture,” said John Demsey, group president of the Estée Lauder Cos. Inc. and chairman of the MAC AIDS Fund, of the Minaj-Martin pairing. To date, MAC has raised $236 million with the MAC AIDS Fund and is on track to raise $250 million by June, said Demsey.

M.A.C. released an oh-so-colorful image for the campaign on the company’s Facebook page, which features Martin and Minaj. Shot by noted photographer David LaChapelle, the image shows Martin holding a supersized Viva Glam lipstick above his head while Minaj sits perched atop a motorcycle.

M.A.C. has said “every cent of Ricky and Nicki’s Viva Glam products, on-counter February 2012, goes to support the M·A·C AIDS Fund.”

Martin and Minaj are the latest celebrities to represent the line. Previous spokespeople include Fergie, Christina Aguilera and Lady Gaga.

Meanwhile, Olympic figure skater Johnny Weir was also announced as a new face of the brand in June.

To date, the M.A.C AIDS Fund has raised more than $224 million exclusively through the sale of its Viva Glam lip products, with 100 percent of the sale price going to fight HIV/AIDS.
