Seattle Mariners Acquire Luis Urías from Boston Red Sox

Luis Urías is heading out west…

The Seattle Mariners have acquired the 26-year-old Mexican professional baseball infielder from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for right-handed pitcher Isaiah Campbell.

Luis UríasUrías, a utility infielder who can play second and third base and shortstop, appeared in 52 games last season between the Milwaukee Brewers and Boston Red Sox while dealing with injuries.

Urías missed the first two months due to a hamstring injury. He was dealt to the Red Sox at the trade deadline and appeared in 32 games for Boston the rest of the way.

Urías hit just .194 last season, but played in 119 games in 2022 and a career-high 150 games in 2021 with the Brewers. Seattle will be hoping it gets the 2021 version of Urías, who hit .249 with 23 homers and 75 RBIs.

Campbell, 25, made his major league debut last season with the Mariners. Campbell was 4-1 with a 2.83 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 28⅔ innings out of the bullpen. Campbell made his debut on July 7 after spending parts of three seasons in the minors of the Mariners’ organization.

Milwaukee Brewers Trade Orlando Arcia to Atlanta Braves

It’s a Brave(s) new world for Orlando Arcia.

The Atlanta Braves have acquired the 26-year-old Venezuelan professional baseball shortstop, a versatile infielder, from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for two pitchers.

Orlando Arcia

Milwaukee acquired right-handed pitchers Chad Sobotka and Patrick Weigel in the deal.

Arcia has spent all six of his Major League Baseball seasons with Milwaukee. He had one hit in 11 at-bats this season, and he had a .260 batting average in 2020 with 5 home runs and 20 RBI.

He has mostly played as a shortstop but has also seen time at third base and in the outfield.

Overall, Arcia has a career .244 batting average with 42 home runs, 180 RBI and 39 stolen bases. He had signed a one-year, $2 million deal with the Brewers in December.

“He’s kind of an up-and-coming guy,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said. “I was a little surprised he was available. Any time you can upgrade and add to depth at the shortstop position it’s really a good move.”

This move clears the way for Luis Urias to take over as the Brewers’ everyday shortstop. The Brewers had acquired Urias along with pitcher Eric Lauer from the San Diego Padres in a November 2019 trade that sent outfielder Trent Grisham and pitcher Zach Davies to the Padres.

“The trade is a commitment to Luis Urias,” Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. “That is a commitment that we made. He has earned this and it’s an important time for him. He’s going to get a great opportunity here.”

Luis Urias Traded to the Milwaukee Brewers

Luis Urias is headed to Wisconsin…

The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired the 22-year-old Mexican professional baseball player and and left-hander Eric Lauer from the San Diego Padres for outfielder Trent Grisham and right-hander Zach Davies in a swap of high-end prospects and veteran pitchers.

Luis Urias

Urias was a consensus top-25 prospect entering the 2019 season and was outstanding at Triple-A El Paso, batting .315 with 19 home runs in 73 games. But he struggled offensively in 71 games with the Padres, batting just .223.

He primarily played second base for the Padres, who boast stars at third base and shortstop with Manny Machadoand Fernando Tatis Jr., respectively. But the Brewers are expected to play Urias at shortstop, according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan.

“It was more of a trade in an area of need for both clubs,” Padres general manager A.J. Prellersaid. “To get good players you have to move good players.”

Lauer was 14-17 with a 4.40 ERA in 53 games — 52 starts — over two seasons with San Diego. He went 8-10 with a 4.45 ERA last season.

Grisham also was widely rated as a top-50 prospect entering the 2019 season and was one of the Brewers organization’s best minor league hitters, batting .300 with 26 homers and 71 RBIs in 97 combined games at Double-A Biloxi and Triple-A San Antonio.

He appeared in 51 games with the Brewers, batting .231 with six homers, and emerged as an every-day player in September after star outfielder Christian Yelichsuffered a season-ending injury.

Davies went 10-7 with a career-best 3.55 ERA in 31 starts last season. He had spent his entire five-year career with the Brewers, going 43-42 with a 3.91 ERA in 111 starts.
