Campanella to Direct the USA Network’s Drama Pilot “Colony”

The 55-year-old Argentine filmmaker, who won the foreign language Oscar winner for The Secret In Their Eyes, is set to direct the USA Network’s drama pilot Colony.

Starring former Lost co-star Josh Holloway, the family drama/thriller centers on life in Los Angeles after a mysterious “foreign” occupation. Holloway will play the main character, Will Bowman, a former FBI agent who — to protect his family — is forced to collaborate with the occupational government to bring down the growing resistance movement inside the Los Angeles colony.

Colony, written and executive produced by Lost executive producer/showrunner Carlton Cuse and Ryan Condal, is a co-production between Legendary Television and Universal Cable Productions.

Campanella’s other credits include directing episodes of Halt and Catch Fire, House MD, 30 Rock and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

Cannavale to Star in Marvel/Disney’s Superhero Film “Ant-Man”

Bobby Cannavale has landed a Marvelous role…

The 43-year-old half-Cuban American actor and Emmy-winnner has joined the cast of Ant-Man, which has begun filming in San Francisco.

Directed by Peyton Reed, the film stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang, a con man who grows into a hero by helping his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (portrayed by Michael Douglas) pull off a heist that will save the world. Lost alum Evangeline Lilly plays Hope Van Dyne, Pym’s daughter.

No word yet on Cannavale’s character in the film.

Additionally, Michael Peña, Abby Ryder Fortson, David Dastmalchian, Wood Harris, Gregg Turkington and rapper-actor T.I. have also been cast in Ant-Man.

Marvel’s Kevin Feige is producing and Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Michael Grillo and Stan Lee are executive producers on what Disney/Marvel have set up as their next superhero franchise hot off the successful launch of the Guardians of the Galaxy property.

In addition to California’s Bay Area locale, filming will also take place in Atlanta.

Ant-Man is slated for a July 17, 2015 release.

DirecTV has released the first trailer for its upcoming MMA-themed drama series Kingdom, starring the 37-year-old half-Puerto Rican actress.

Previously titled Navy St., the 10-episode drama is described as a gritty family drama set in the Mixed Martial Arts world.

Frank Grillo (Prison Break) stars as Alvey Kulina, an MMA legend and owner of a Venice California-based Mixed Martial Arts gym.

Nick Jonas, formerly of the Jonas Brothers, plays Alvey’s close-shaved and ripped prize-fighter son Nate. Jonathan Tucker (The Ruins, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre) plays Nate’s younger brother, a world-class athlete who lost everything. And Kiele Sanchez (Lost, The Glades, The Purge: Anarchy) plays Alvey’s current girlfriend Lisa Prince, while Joanna Going (House of Cards) plays Alvey’s ex-wife Christina.

Kingdom premieres October 8 at 9:00 pm ET exclusively on DIRECTV’s Audience, channel 239.

Carbonell to Guest-Star on CBS’ “The Good Wife”

The 46-year-old Cuban/Spanish American actor will guest-star on CBSThe Good Wife.

Carbonell will portray a charming entrepreneur who catches Alicia Florrick’s eye, according to CBS.

In the episode, set to air on May 4, Alicia (Julianna Margulies) has a chance encounter with Carbonell’s character, Daniel Irwin, during jury duty, which makes her begin to consider her options outside of her marriage. Alicia will ask for guidance from none other than her mother, Veronica (Stockard Channing), who knows a thing or two about playing the field.

In the wake of Will’s death — and Peter’s not exactly compassionate response — Alicia told her husband that they would stay together for their careers, but that he was free to date whomever he wanted.

Carbonell’s previous television credits include appearances on Lost, Psych, Ringer, Wilfredand Person of Interest. He currently stars on Bates Motel.

The Good Wife airs Sundays at 9/8c on CBS.

Garcia Promoted to Series Regular on CBS’ “Hawaii Five-O”

Jorge Garcia is heading back to Hawaii.

The 40-year-old Cuban/Chilean-American actor has been promoted to series regular on the recently announced fifth season of CBSHawaii Five-O, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Garcia has guest-starred twice on the police procedural, portraying Jerry Ortega, a conspiracy theorist and former high school classmate of his former Lost co-star Daniel Dae Kim‘s Detective Lt. Chin Ho Kelly.

“Jorge very quickly made Jerry an unlikely and valuable part of the Five-O Ohana,” executive producer Peter Lenkov tells THR. “We have many opportunities planned to put Jerry’s unusual and infectious desire to put the bad guys to good use.”

The move brings Garcia back to Hawaii, where ABC‘s Lost filmed for six seasons.

In Hawaii Five-O‘s four-season run, the series has staged several Lost reunions, featuring guest turns from Henry Ian Cusick, Tania Raymonde, Cynthia Watros, Terry O’Quinn and Sam Anderson.

Garcia, who last year booked a role on CBS‘ drama pilot The Ordained, has guest-starred on ABC’s Once Upon a Time, CBS’ Becker, HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm and Showtime’s Californication.

The Hawaii Five-O promotion marks his latest series regular role following Fox’s Alcatraz.

Sanchez to Star in “The Purge” Sequel

The 37-year-old half-Puerto Rican actress has landed a role in the sequel to Universal Pictures and Blumhouse ProductionsThe Purge.

Sanchez, who rose to acclaim on A&E’s drama The Glades, joins a cast that includes Boardwalk Empire actor Michael K. Williams, Sparkle star Carmen Ejogo and Friday Night Lights.

The sequel, which will hit theaters on Friday, June 20, 2014, will see the return of writer-director James DeMonaco. It was recently announced that Frank Grillo will star.

The sequel should reside in a similar setting to the original, where, once a year, there’s a 12-hour period when all crime is allowed and condoned.

When The Purge, made on a budget of $3 million, opened in theaters in June, it earned a stunning $34 million in its debut, setting a new record for original R-rated horror (that record was later broken by The Conjuring). The Ethan Hawke-starrer went on to earn $89.3 million worldwide.

Sanchez’s other film credits include A Perfect Getaway and Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium, and she’s appeared on television in Samantha Who? and Lost.

Nolasco to Guest-Star on Fox’s “Gang Related”

The 42-year-old Puerto Rican actor will guest star in at least one episode of the network’s gritty drama Gang Related, which stars Ramon Rodriguez.

Gang Related centers on Ryan Lopez (Charlie’s Angels’ Rodriguez), a rising star in an elite Gang Task Force who once belonged to a powerful Latino gang.

Nolasco, who rose to acclaim on Fox’s Prison Break, joins the thriller as Mariano, a quiet, ruthless, terrifying sociopath who heads up a cartel.

Nolasco’s most recent TV credits include ABC’s short-lived Work It and TNT’s Rizzoli & Isles.

Saundra Santiago, Terry O’Quinn (Lost), Jay Hernandez (Nashville), RZA (Californication), Shantel VanSanten (One Tree Hill), Lela Loren, Cliff Curtis (Trauma), Sung Kang (Fast & Furious), Inbar Lavi (Underemployed) and Reynaldo Gallegos (Sons of Anarchy) round out the cast.

Loren Joins the Cast of Fox’s “Gang Related”

Lela Loren will have to choose between two hunky Latinos this upcoming television season.

The Latina actress has been cast in a major recurring role on Fox’s new drama Gang Related.

Starring Ramon Rodriguez, the series centers on Ryan Lopez, a gang member sent in to infiltrate the San Francisco Police Department.

Loren will portray Sylvia, a woman caught between her ex-boyfriend Ryan, and her current fiancé Dante Acosta (portrayed by Jay Hernandez), gang lord Javier Acosta’s son and Ryan’s best friend since childhood.

Loren’s credits include television appearances on Covert Affairs, The Closer, The Mentalist and Lost, as well as a film role in The Hangover Part III, which was released earlier this year.

Garcia to Star in the Zombie-Themed Horror Comedy “Cooties”

It appears Jorge Garcia has a serious case of the cooties

The 40-year-old half-Cuban/half-Chilean American actor has signed on to star in the prepubescent horror comedy Cooties.

Garcia, who last starred in Fox’s short-lived drama Alcatraz, will portray a teacher in the film, which follows a zombie-like epidemic that originates from an infected chicken nugget and turns elementary school students into rampaging savages.

Written by InsidiousLeigh Whannell and Glee co-creator Ian Brennan, the film also stars Elijah Wood, Alison Pill, Rainn Wilson, Jack McBrayer and Nasim Pedrad.

Filming is expected to begin on July 15 in LA with Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion directing.

Garcia, who rose to acclaim on ABC’s Lost, most recently guest-starred on the fairy tale drama Once Upon a Time.

del Toro Casts the Leading Men for His FX Drama Project “The Strain”

Guillermo del Toro has found the leading men for his sizzling drama project for FX

Lost actor Kevin Durand will star opposite Corey Stoll in The Strain, from the 48-year-old Mexican filmmaker and former Lost co-showrunner Carlton Cuse.

del Toro will direct the pilot from a script he co-wrote with Chuck Hogan based on the pair’s vampire novel trilogy.

The Strain is described as a high-concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Stoll), the head of the Centers for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City. He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism.

Durand will play Vasily Fet, a second-generation Ukrainian-American and rat exterminator by trade, enthusiastically joins the war against the vampires who have invaded New York. Under the mentorship of a wizened vampire hunter from Eastern Europe, Fet discovers his once solitary life now has vitality and meaning.

The Strain continues gaining traction at the network.
