Los Ángeles Azules to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at Billboard Latin Music Awards

The Mexican cumbia group will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2023 Billboard Latin Music Awards.

 Los Ángeles AzulesThe band, known for songs like “El Listón de Tu Pelo,” “Cómo Te Voy a Olvidar” and “Mi Niña Mujer,” among many other cumbia anthems, will be recognized for their enduring, exceptional career that has expanded the reach of Latin music worldwide.

The award will be presented at the 2023 Billboard Latin Music Awards, where they will also hit the stage with a special performance.

The ceremony will be held Thursday, October 5, and will be broadcast live on Telemundo from the Watsco Center in Coral Gables, Fla.

“We are very honored to receive this award,” the group — led by the Mejía-Avante brothers — said in a statement. “It is a recognition to our music, which we have shared with our audiences throughout all these years.”

With a 40-year musical career, Los Ángeles Azules have achieved great success, including 14 entries on Billboard‘s Hot Latin Songs chart, with three songs in the top 10. They also have 16 entries on Latin Airplay, of which six reached the top 10, including “Nunca es Suficiente,” with Natalia Lafourcade, which peaked at No. 3 in 2019. Their 2020 album De Buenos Aires Para El Mundo debuted at No. 8 on the Regional Mexican Albums chart, making it the band’s 12th album to reach the top 10 on the tally.

Past recipients of the Billboard Lifetime Achievement Award include Raphael, Paquita la del Barrio, Armando Manzanero, Miguel Bosé, Los Temerarios, Intocable, José José, Marco Antonio Solís, Ricardo Arjona and Maná, among others.

Besides airing live on Telemundo, the Billboard Latin Music Awards will air simultaneously on the Hispanic entertainment cable channel, Universo, Peacock, the Telemundo App, and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean on Telemundo Internacional.

Peso Pluma leads the list of finalists with 21 nods across 15 categories including artist of the year, songwriter of the year, Global 200 Latin artist of the year, and Top Latin Album of the year.

The 79-year-old Spanish singer and actor will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2022 Billboard Latin Music Awards, according to Telemundo.

Raphael will be recognized for his “exceptional professional career and his artistic and personal contributions” that have influenced the development of Latin music around the world.

The singer will also perform during the awards show, which will take place on Thursday, September 29, at the Watsco Canter in Miami and will be broadcast live on Telemundo beginning at 7:00 p.m. ET.

The Billboard Latin Music Awards — where Bad Bunny leads the list of finalists with a whopping 23 nods across 13 categories — will be simulcast on Telemundo, Universo, Peacock, the Telemundo App, and throughout Latin America and the Caribbean on Telemundo Internacional.

With a musical career that spans more than 60 years, Raphael — known for anthemic songs such as “Yo Soy Aquel,” “En Carne Viva” and “Mi Gran Noche” — has garnered worldwide recognition as a pioneer of Spanish-language romantic ballads.

In 1962, he began his professional career, where he soon earned first, second and third prize at Spain’s Festival Internacional de la Canción in Benidorm. He also performed two consecutive times at the Eurovision Festival, starred in various films and hosted a radio show called The Raphael Show.

To date, he’s recorded more than 60 albums and has sold over 70 million records. Raphael is currently on tour in support of his Raphael 6.0 LP.

He’s slated to release a new album at the end of the year.

Yahritza Martinez Becomes Youngest Latin Performer to Enter Billboard Hot 100 Chart with “Soy El Unico”

The 15-year-old Mexican American singer has earned her first No. 1 on Billboard’Hot Latin Songs chart with her band Yahritza y Su Esencia’s first single “Soy El Único” in its debut week.

In the process, Yahritza has become the youngest Latin performer to enter the all-genre tally.

“It is one of the greatest achievements in my young age and more than that, it is a reminder that we can all achieve our dreams.” Yahritza tells Billboard.

Yahritza has 733.6k followers on TikTok, and her following keeps growing.

She formed her band, Yahritza y Su Esencia, with her two older brothers, Jairo and Armando Martinez. Originally from Yakima, Washington — a city known for its fruit and apple orchards — the siblings grew up around Mexican music, waking up to hits from bands like Los Temerarios and Los Canarios playing throughout their house.

After Ramón Ruiz of the independent record label Lumbre Music found Martinez’s videos on TikTok, he flew out to Washington and signed her. Since then, the sibling trio has produced and shot the music video for “Soy El Único,” which is part of a four-part love story.

With her debut single, Martinez has established herself in Regional Mexican music, a genre that has been male-dominated for years.

In “Soy El Único,” Martinez writes about how heart-breaking it can be to love someone who doesn’t value you. It’s a single that goes well beyond Yahritza’s 15 years.

Los Temerarios Postpone U.S. Tour Amid Surge in COVID-19 Cases

The Mexican Grupera band, comprised of brothers Adolfo Angel and Gustavo Angel, has postponed its U.S. tour amid a surge in COVID-19 cases across the nation.

In an official press release shared on their social media accounts, Los Temerarios said that due to the “critical situation,” they decided to postpone their 2022 tour — which was set to kick off February 4 — and move it to 2023.

“At this moment, everyone’s health is top priority, and although we want to return to the stage and reunite with our fans, we don’t want to put anyone at risk,” Los Temerarios, led by brothers Gustavo and Adolfo Angel, wrote. Tickets purchased for the 2022 tour will be valid for the new dates, which they’ll be announcing in the upcoming months, according to the post.

Venegas to Receive Special Award at This Year’s La Musa Awards

The 45-year-old Mexican singer is set to receive the special La Musa Elena Casals award at this year’s La Musa Awards during the October 13 ceremony.

Venegas will receive the prize named after the Cuban poet and singer/songwriter, which recognizes young musicians who have an outstanding career in contemporary Latin music.

“Julieta Venegas is one of the most influential voices in Latin music and we are absolutely thrilled to give her this award,” said Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame co-founder Desmond Child in a statement.

“Venegas makes everyone in the Latin music industry proud. She is a true artist who inspires and moves. Her music has captivated all generations,” added fellow LSHOF co-founder Rudy Pérez.

The Grammy and Latin Grammy award-winning artist is known for her hit singles like “Limón y sal,” “Andar conmigo,” “Lento,” “Algo sucede,” among others.

The fourth annual La Musa Awards will take place in Miami where urban superstar Yandel will be given the Premio Triunfador honor and six Latin artists — Los Temerarios, Robi Draco Rosa, Cheo Zorrilla, Miguel Luna, Claudia Brant and Alejandro Jaen — will be inducted into the hall of fame and honored with the silver La Musa trophy statuette.

Intocable’s “XX Aniversario” Debuts Atop Billboard’s Top Latin Albums Chart

It’s Lucky No. 7 for Intocable

The Tejano/Norteño musical group has scored it’s seventh No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart, as XX Aniversario debuts at the summit with 3,000 sold in the week ending February 1, according to Nielsen Music.

The hits collection, also available in CD + DVD format, includes memorable tracks spanning the band’s last 20 years.

Intocable is tied for the record for most chart-topping songs on Billboard’s Regional Mexican Airplay chart (16), along with Conjunto Primavera.

XX Aniversario includes several of Intocable’s past crowning tracks, including “Sueno,” the longest running No. 1 (13 weeks).

The new release gives Intocable its 14th No. 1 on the Regional Mexican Albums chart, where it remains the third best-charting group following Los Tigres Del Norte (23 No. 1s) and Los Temerarios (15).

Intocable hails from Zapata, Texas, and was started by friends Ricky Muñoz and René Martínez in the early 1990s. Other members include Sergio Serna, Johnny Lee Rosas, Alejandro Gulmar, Albert Ramírez and José Juan Hernández.
