Jaume Collet-Serra to Direct Blumhouse’s “The Woman in the Yard”

Jaume Collet-Serra is hitting the yard…

The 49-year-old Spanish film director and producer and Black Adam filmmaker will direct Blumhouse’s The Woman in the Yard, starring and executive-produced by Danielle Deadwyler.

The project reteams Collet-Serra and Deadwyler, who recently collaborated on the Netflix thriller film, Carry On.

The film, which has a plot line under wraps, is set for theatrical release on January 10, 2025.

“I’ve been trying to find the right project to work on with Jaume, in our system, for over a decade. The Woman in the Yard is the perfect match, a film that’s ambitious in scope but modest in budget that combines Jaume’s vision with the incomparable Danielle Deadwyler. Together with my friend Stephanie Allain, this is a real dream team and I’m excited to collaborate with them on the film,” said Blumhouse boss Jason Blum.

The Woman in the Yard is written by Sam Stefanak. Blum and Allain are producers on the film. Collet-Serra, Deadwyler, Gabrielle Ebron, Scott Greenberg and James Moran are EPs. Haley Pigman and Jungyoon Kim are the executives covering the film for Blumhouse.

The Woman in the Yard is a Blumhouse production for Universal.

Collet-Serra’s other credits include House of Wax, Orphan and The Shallows, as well as the Liam Neeson-led thriller films Unknown, Non-Stop, Run All Night and The Commuter.

Juan Pablo Raba to Star in the Action Comedy “Freelance”

Juan Pablo Raba is freelancing…

The 45-year-old Colombian actor will star in director Pierre Morel’s action comedy Freelance.

Raba, best known for his roles in Narcos, Peppermint and Coyote, will appear opposite John Cena and Alison Brie in the film.

Filming is now underway in Colombia on the film, which follows a special forces operator (Cena) who decides to retire from the Army and start a family back in the U.S. After several years of mortgage payments, school drop-offs, backyard barbecues and trying to conform to life in suburbia, he decides to come out of retirement to take a gig providing security for a female journalist (Brie) as she interviews a cruel dictator who may or may not have ordered the attack on him and his men. When a military coup breaks out in the middle of the interview, the three are forced to escape into the jungle where they must survive the elements, the military and one another.

Endurance Media’s Steve Richards is producing alongside Sentient Entertainment’s Renee Tab and Christopher Tuffin. Jaime Hernandez is executive producer.

The film is written by Jacob Lentz, marking his feature writing debut.

Raba recently appeared in the action-thriller The Marksman alongside Liam Neeson. His television roles include Ricky Ortiz in History’s military drama Six and Gustavo in hit Netflix series Narcos.

He can currently be seen in Netflix’s original Colombian series Distrito Salvaje, in which he stars and executive produces.

Jaume Collet-Serra to Direct TNT’s Drama “Unknown,” Based on the Liam Neeson Film He Previously Helmed

Jaume Collet-Serra is heading into the unknown…

The 47-year-old Spanish filmmaker is set to direct TNT’s one-hour drama Unknown, which is being developed based on the 2011 Liam Neeson action-thriller box office hit.

Directed by Collet-Serra and produced by Dark Castle Entertainment, the film told the story of Martin Harris (Neeson), a doctor who lost his memory after a car accident and woke up to find his identity taken and the target of mysterious assassins.

In addition to directing, Collet-Serra is also attached to executive produce the series, which would pick up after the events of the film and follow a new lead character that is thrust into a mind-bending adventure full of twists and turns.

Sean Finegan will write the pilot and will executive produce.

TNT has had recent success with series based on filns. Out of its three current drama series, two, veteran Animal Kingdom and sophomore Snowpiercer, both were offshoots from features. TNT’s third series, Claws, is headed to its final season this summer.

The Unknown movie was written by Oliver Butcher and Stephen Cornwell. It was adapted from the 2003 French novel by Didier Van Cauwelaert, published in English as Out of My Head. Released in February 2011, the film grossed $136 million on a $30 million budget.

Collet-Serra’s other credits include House of Wax, The Commuter, Run All Night and Orphan.

Anthony Ramos to Appear on Fourth Season of HBO’s Drama Series “In Treatment”

Anthony Ramos has found his treatment…

The 29-year-old Brooklyn-born Puerto Rican actor/singer has landed a recurring role opposite Uzo Aduba in the upcoming fourth season of HBO’s Emmy-winning drama series In Treatment.

In Treatment, which ended a three-season run in 2010, is returning for a fourth season as a reimagined half-hour series. The series is in pre-production under COVID-19 guidelines, with a 2021 debut planned to air on HBO and stream on HBO Max.

The reimagining brings a diverse trio of patients in session with an observant, empathetic therapist (Aduba), who is wrestling with her own issues.

Ramos will play Eladio, a patient who works as a home health aide for a wealthy family’s adult son. Additional cast will be announced.

The HBO Entertainment production is produced in association with Leverage, Closest to the Hole Productions and Sheleg.

Ramos first made his mark in the Tony and Grammy award-winning Broadway smash Hamilton, now streaming on Disney+. He can currently be seen in the feature Honest Thief opposite Liam Neeson.

He will also star in Lin-Manuel Miranda’s anticipated feature, In The Heights, directed by Jon M. Chu, slated for premiere in summer 2021.

Juan Pablo Raba to Star in Paramount Network’s Drama Series “Coyote”

Juan Pablo Raba is on the hunt…

The 42-year-old Colombian actor will star opposite Michael Chiklis in Coyote, Paramount Network’s one-hour scripted drama series from Emmy-winning executive producer and director Michelle MacLaren, Dark Horse Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television.

Written by David Graziano, Michael Carnes and Josh Gilbert, Coyote is the story of Ben Clemens (Chiklis), who, after 32 years as a U.S. Border Patrolagent, is forced to work for the very people he spent his career trying to keep out of America. Now exposed to life on the other side of the wall, Ben will start to question his black-and-white views of the world, challenging his ideology and his loyalties.

Raba will play El Catrin, head of a small family cartel in Mexico. El Catrin is something of an anomaly — charming and impeccably dressed, a man of his word who would just as soon invite you to dinner as have you killed for breaking a deal.

Coyoteis slated to premiere in 2020.

Raba recently wrapped production on action-thriller The Minuteman alongside Liam Neeson, from director Robert Lorenzs.

On television, Raba is known for his starring role as Ricky Ortiz on the military drama Six, which aired for two seasons on History, and for his role as Gustavo, on Narcos. Raba can be seen in Netflix’s original Colombian series, Distrito Salvaje, in which he stars and also executive produces. He’s also known for his recurring role in the third season of ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. His character Joey Gutierrez is the first openly gay hero in the Marvelfranchise.

Juan Pablo Raba is staying up to the Minute(man)…

The 42-year-old Colombian actor has joined the cast of The Minuteman, the action thriller starring Liam Neeson.

The film follows a rancher (Neeson) on the Arizona border who becomes the unlikely defender of a young Mexican boy desperately fleeing the cartel assassins (led by Raba) who’ve pursued him into the U.S.

Hailing from Sculptor Media, the film is being directed by Robert Lorenz.

The screenplay is from Chris Charles and Danny Kravitz, with Lorenz penning the latest draft.

The Minuteman begins production next week in New Mexico and Ohio.

Raba, who played Gustavo Gaviria on Netflix’s Narcos, is next up starring opposite Lawrence Fishburne in the film Imprisoned.

Jaume Collet-Serra In Talks to Direct “Black Adam”

The 45-year-old Spanish film director and producer is in negotiations to direct Black Adam, Warner Bros. and New Line’s spinoff of their DC Comics hit Shazam!.

Adam Sztykielwrote the latest draft of the film, which will star Dwayne Johnson.

Collet-Serra and Johnson just finished collaborating on Disney’s Jungle Cruise, so they look to be sailing off together again on another tentpole project.

Collet-Serra’s past credits include the Liam Neesonthrillers Non-Stop, Run All Nightand The Commuter.

He also helmed the Blake Livelyfilm The Shallows.

Black Adam is Shazam’s arch-nemesis and a complex antihero with a rich history of his own. Johnson was to play the character in the first movie before in the parties decided he warranted his own pic, and he came aboard in January 2017.

Shazam! was a hit when it bowed in April, grossing $362.7 million worldwide, with a sequel already in the works.

Raoul Trujillo to Star in FX’s “Sons of Anarchy” Spinoff Pilot “Mayans MC”

Raoul Trujillo is revving up for a new role…

The 62-year-old part-Latino actor has landed a series regular role opposite Edward James Olmos and Michael Irby in Mayans MC, Kurt Sutter’s retooled Sons of Anarchy spinoff pilot for FX.

Set in the aftermath of Jax Teller’s death at the end of SoA’s seven-season run in 2014, Mayans MC will focus on the struggles of EZ Reyes (JD Pardo), a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the California/Mexico border.

Trujillo will play Che “Taza” Romero, Vicepresidente of Mayans MC, Santo Padre Charter. As a longtime friend of Alvarez, he helped set up the Santo Padre chapter on the border. He’s hardened by the deterioration of his hometown, but an infinite source of wisdom to the club.

Trujillo, who starred in Sicario, can next be seen opposite Liam Neeson in Hard Powder, and in Hochelaga, Land of Souls directed by François Girard, Canada’s pick for the foreign-language Oscar race.

On the television side, he received a best supporting actor Critics’ Choice nomination for Nat Geo miniseries Saints & Strangers.

Focus Features to Release Bayona’s “A Monster Calls” in October

It looks like J.A. Bayona will have a Monster October…

Focus Features will release the 41-year-old Spanish filmmaker’s fantasy drama A Monster Calls on October 21, one week later than originally planned.

Written by Patrick Ness, A Monster Calls follows a boy who seeks the help of a tree monster so that he can cope with his single mother’s terminal disease. The monster tells him stories to help him cope with his life, though he has difficulty understanding the point of the bizarre tales. The boy doesn’t get along with his grandmother, which is unfortunate because he will have to live with her when his mother passes away.

Felicity Jones, Sigourney Weaver, Toby Kebbell, Lewis MacDougall and Liam Neeson star.

Bayona’s previous feature The Impossible played during awards season 2012 and focused on a family in peril during the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami in Thailand.

Trejo to Participate in This Year’s Red Nose Day Special on NBC

The 72-year-old Mexican American actor, best known for portraying villains and anti-heroes, has signed on for NBC’s Red Nose Day Special.

The fundraiser, which aims to help lift kids out of poverty, will be broadcast live on May 26 from 9:00 – 11:oo pm ET on NBC.

The special, hosted by Craig Ferguson, features comedy, musical performances and short films that shed light on children in need here at home and around the world.

Also scheduled to make an appearance on the special are Chiwetel Ejiofor, Tony Hale, Iwan Rheon, Sterling K.
