Barbie Ferreira to Make Broadway Debut in New Play “Cult of Love”

The 27-year-old Brazilian American actress has joined the cast of Cult of Love, the upcoming new Broadway play by writer and showrunner Leslye Headland.

The Second Stage Theater production, directed by Trip Cullman, also will feature Molly Bernard, Roberta Colindrez, Rebecca Henderson, Christopher Lowell and Christopher Sears.

Ferrari will be making her Broadway debut.

The play, in its New York premiere, will begin previews on November 20 at Second Stage’s Helen Hayes Theater, with an official opening on December 12.

Additional casting will be announced shortly.

The play’s synopsis reads: “It’s the holiday season for the Dahl family! The four adult children return to their childhood home with partners in tow. The Dahl traditions include singing carols in harmony at the drop of a hat, but the gathering is anything but harmonious. Old conflicts resurface, new issues battled, and dinner is taking absolutely forever to be served. Will the love the Dahls have for each other be enough to get them through, or will this be their last Christmas together?”

Cult of Love will feature scenic design by John Lee Beatty, costume design by Sophia Choi, lighting design by Heather Gilbert, and sound design by Darron L West. The Music Supervisor is Jacinth Greywoode.

The play had its world premiere at IAMA in January 2018.

The 17-year-old half-Spanish actress will star in Disney+’s upcoming new Lucasfilm Star Wars series The Acolyte.

Dafne KeenKeen, who rose to acclaim after her breakthrough role in the superhero film Logan, is part of a roster of new cast additions that includes Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman and Carrie-Anne Moss.

They join previously announced cast members Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto and Jodie Turner-Smith.

The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.

The series is already shooting in the United Kingdom.

Creator, showrunner and executive producer Leslye Headland is behind the show. Headland will also direct the series pilot.

Netflix premiere its new comedy series Russian Doll starring Natasha Lyonne and the 53-year-old Cuban-American actor on February 1.

Created by Lyonne, Amy Poehler and Leslye HeadlandRussian Doll follows a young woman named Nadia (Lyonne) on her journey as the guest of honor at a seemingly inescapable party one night in New York City.

The series also stars Greta Lee, Elizabeth AshleyRebecca Henderson and Charlie Barnett.

Netflix handed an eight-episode straight-to-series orderto the project in September 2017. It has an all-female writing and directing team, with Headlund and Lyonne penning the scripts and also directing along with Jamie Babbit.

Guest stars include Chloë Sevigny, Dascha Polanco, Brendan Sexton III, Rebecca Henderson, Jeremy Bobb, Ritesh Rajan and Jocelyn Bioh.

Russian Doll is produced by Universal Television, Poehler’s Paper Kite Productions, JAX Media and 3 Arts Entertainment.

Molina’s NBC Comedy Pilot “Assistance” Still Alive at NBC

It looks like Alfred Molina may still be heading to the Peacock Network in the near future…

NBC is reportedly keeping its comedy pilot Assistance, which stars the 60-year-old half-Spanish actor, in contention with an order for three more scripts, according to Deadline.com.

Universal Television, which is producing the project, has extended the options on several cast members, including Molina and star Krysten Ritter.

From Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Prods., Assistance is based on the play by Leslye Headland, who wrote the adaptation.

It centers on an idealistic “working girl” assistant (Ritter) who is pulled between her colleague (“work husband”) and her real-life fiance while trying to manage a demanding boss.

Molina most recently starred in TNT’s medial drama Monday Mornings. And he voices one of the new characters in Disney/Pixar’s Monsters University.

Rodriguez to Star in “About Last Night” Remake

The 37-year-old Puerto Rican/Cuban American actor and former CSI: Miami star has joined the cast of the remake of the 1986 romantic dramedy About Last Night, which originally starred Rob Lowe and Demi Moore.

The film follows two singletons (played by Michael Ealy and Joy Bryant in the redo) as they attempt to turn a one night stand into a possible relationship.

The Magic Mike star, who will be playing a college math professor on Fox’s upcoming midseason comedy The Goodwin Games, has been cast as the ex-flame of Bryant’s character.

About Last Night

The film is as-yet untitled, since screenwriter Leslye Headland (Bachelorette) drew more from the original source material, David Mamet’s play Sexual Perversity in Chicago.

Kevin Hart and Regina Hall are set to play the couple’s respective friends, who don’t approve of the relationship.
