Lin-Manuel Miranda to Take Part in Online Fundraisers to Help Georgia Democrats Win U.S. Senate Seats in Upcoming Runoff Election

Lin-Manuel Miranda is getting political…

The 40-year-old Puerto Rican acclaimed singer, rapper, composer, producer and playwright and other members of the cast of the Tony Award-winning musical Hamilton, which he created, and Pearl Jam will headline online fundraisers to help Democrats win U.S. Senate seats in the coming January 5 runoff elections.

If Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff win their races, the Senate will be at a 50-50 breakdown between the parties, but soon-to-be Vice President Kamala Harris would break a tie.

Pearl Jam will join Miranda for a conversation about their artistic inspirations, with Wayne Brady as the emcee. The event will take place at 8:30 pm ET on December 16 on the virtual platform Looped. Tickets start at $10 per person, with proceeds going to the Latino Victory Project, the Latino Community Fund of Georgia and the Hispanic Federation.

Miranda and other members of the cast of Hamilton also are participating in a December 13 fundraiser for Georgia Democrats, Ossoff and Warnock in a livestream set for 8:30 pm ET. Others scheduled to participate include Leslie Odom Jr, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Phillipa Soo, Christopher Jackson, Jonathan Groff, Javier Muñoz, Sasha Hutchings, Thayne Jasperson, Ariana DeBose, Sydney James Harcourt, Carleigh Bettiol, Andrew Chappelle, Alysha Deslorieux, Morgan Marcell, Austin Smith and Betsy Struxness. There is no set ticket price, but the invite suggests $30.

The Hamilton cast also reunited in October for a fundraiser for Biden’s campaign.

The last time there was such a 50-50 split was in 2001, with Republicans having control because the Vice President was Dick Cheney.

Fernandez Endorses Hillary Clinton with a Special “Corrido”

Vicente Fernández isn’t rocking the vote, he’s ranchera-ing it…

Titled “El Corrido de Hillary Clinton,” Fernandez’s special announcement begins with a message to the Latino community: “Dear brothers, your voice is your vote. Together, we can.”

He explains why it’s important for Latinos to vote for Clinton in the upcoming November elections, and takes a few jabs at Donald Trump, singing, “It hurt my pueblo that someone offended us… With Hillary there is respect, and with her as president, we’ll always have a bridge.”

He adds: “Mrs. Clinton, I am here to ask you that when you become president, don’t forget about all my Mexican brothers and Latinos.”

The “El Rey” singer partnered with the Latino Victory Project organization to make the video and song.

Longoria’s Latino Victory Project Launches “The Firsts Campaign”

Eva Longoria is celebrating the firsts

The 40-year-old Mexican American actress and activist, who co-founded the Latino Victory Project, has launched an online grassroots effort called “The Firsts Campaign.”

The special campaign focuses on celebrating Latinos who were the first in their families to graduate from high school or college or open their own business. Longoria and her fellow co-founder Henry Munoz III are asking Latinos to share their stories of being the “first” in their family on the Latino Victory website.

“I am inspired every day by our community as we constantly dare to dream big. I’m talking about those who become the first in their family to achieve milestones — whether they’re the first to graduate from college, own a home, or vote on Election Day,” said Longoria in a statement. “The Firsts Campaign is about celebrating everyday victories in our community that are integral to the future of the nation.”

Latino Victory is a non-partisan organization focusing on building political power within the Latino community.

“So far in this election cycle, we have seen an unbelievable amount of negativity about our community and a litany of hostile policies,” said Latino Victory Project president Cristobal Alex. “This campaign is designed to celebrate the considerable contributions that the people in our community make every day, and remind young people that their story matters. When we use our vote as our voice, candidates that reflect Latino values, which are American values, will win.”
