Selena Returns to Top 10 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Albums Chart with “Selena: The Series” Soundtrack

The late Mexican American singer, known as la Reina de la Musica Tejana, returns to Billboard’s Latin Pop Albums chart dated December 19 with her latest soundtrack Selena: The Series, Music From The Netflix’s Original Series

It’s Selena’s first entry and Top 10 since 2016 following the former No. 1 greatest hits compilation Lo Mejor De… (April 2016).

As Selena: The Series Soundtrack debuts at No. 8, Selena captures her sixth top 10, dating back to the 44-week ruler Dreaming of You (it debuted at No. 1 in August 1995).

Selena: The Series Soundtrack opens with 1,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Dec. 10, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, most of which stem from streaming activity. The first nine episodes of Selena: The Series premiered on Netflix on December 4.

The Latin Pop Albums chart ranks the most popular Latin pop albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units comprise album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). 

Selena:The Series soundtrack, which was released December 4 via Netflix/Capitol Latin/UMLE, net 1,000 SEA which equates to 1.2 million on-demand U.S. streams for the album’s songs in its opening week.

With The Series arriving in the current chart week, Selena also generates popularity with other efforts. Her last live set, Live, The Last Concert: Houston, Texas 1995, an April 2001 one-week chart ruler, re-enters at No. 7 after previously hitting No. 10 last holiday season.

Concurrently, Selena’s all-time favorite Ones (2002), moves closer to Shakira’s El Dorado’s 63-week No. 1 record holder, holding strong atop the list in its 61st week.

Elsewhere, The Series’s 20-track set sees six of its songs debut or re-enter the Latin Digital Song Sales chart. Let’s take a look:

Bad Bunny Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard Hot Latin Songs Chart with “Dakiti,” Featuring Jhay Cortez

The 26-year-old Puerto Rican Latin trap and reggaeton singer’s “Dakiti,” featuring Jhay Cortez, debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart dated November 17.

The new collaboration is just the third song to debut atop the chart in 2020 and the seventh No. 1 of 2020 in total. It concurrently earns the biggest week in terms of streaming for a Latin song in 2020.

“Working with Jhay is always a good experience,” Bad Bunny tells Billboard. “We’ve worked together on the remix of ‘No Me Conoce,’ which was a global hit, and the remix of ‘Como Se Siente,’ and people have always enjoyed our collaborations. In this case, it’s the first time we were able to work together in the studio, unlike the other two songs that were done via phone. Sharing ideas in person is the key of the success of the song.”

“Dakiti” bows atop Hot Latin Songs, which blends airplay, digital sales and streams, mainly on the strength of streaming activity and downloads, after earning 22.2 million streams in the week ending November 5, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.

The song yields a No. 3 debut on the overall Streaming Songs chart and a No. 1 on Latin Streaming Songs. The song earns the biggest week for a Latin song in terms of streaming activity in 2020. What takes the runner-up slot? Well, his own “Si Veo a Tu Mamá,” which opened with 19 million streams on the March 14-dated list.

“Dakiti” concurrently sold 5,000 downloads in its first tracking week, prompting a No. 1 opening on Latin Digital Song Sales and No. 12 on the all-genre Digital Song Sales chart.

“The creative process of this song was different than my previous works,” Bad Bunny adds. “I usually have a main idea for a song. For this one, though, Jhay composed the base, the initial rhythm and the main idea together with Mora. I then added to the evolution of the production, rhythm and lyrics with Tainy. It was a combined effort, which is unusual for me, but when one works as a team, great things come out. It’s been like a drug, literally. Everyone has gone crazy over ‘Dakiti.’”

“Dakiti” is just the third title to open at No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs in 2020. Notably, all three have had Bad Bunny as a lead act. Prior to “Dakiti” his own “Si Veo a Tu Mamá” and “Un Día (One Day)” with J Balvin, Dua Lipa and Tainy, both arrived at the penthouse on the March 14- and the August 8-dated lists.

As Bad Bunny clocks his sixth No. 1, Cortez captures his first No. 1 ever on a Billboard hybrid chart.

“Dakiti” concurrently achieves a No. 9 showing on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song becomes just the second all-Spanish tune to debut in the list’s top 10. The first was also a Bad Bunny tune (“MIA,” with Drake, arrived at No. 5 in October 2018.)

“It’s such an honor that this song is the second song completely in Spanish to debut top 10 in the Hot 100 chart,” Bad Bunny says. “The fact that the first song is also mine feels great. Daddy Yankee Earns 80th Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs Chart with “Don Don,” Featuring Anuel AA & Kendo Kaponi

The 43-year-old Puerto Rican rap supserstar’s “Don Don,” featuring Anuel AA and Kendo Kaponi has debutedat No. 10 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart dated September 26.

The song earns Daddy Yankee his 80th entry on the list — and places him in a tie with Ozuna for the second-most entries since the tally’s inception in 1986. Bad Bunny continues at the helm with 96 total entries.

“Don Don” was released on September 11 via El Cartel and produced byMambo Kingz and DJ Luian. Hot Latin Songs blends airplay, digital sales and streaming data.

“Don Don” arrives in the top 10 powered by streaming activity. The three-generational Puerto Rican collaboration logged 4 million U.S. clicks in the week ending September 17, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, yielding to a No. 8 debut on the Latin Streaming Songs chart.

Sales also helped boost the song’s debut: 2,000 downloads sold in the week ending September 17 and entering at No. 1 on Latin Digital Song Sales. With eight No. 1s on the tally Daddy Yankee ties with Ozuna for the third-most leaders, both trailing Shakira (11) and J Balvin (10).

While Kendo Kaponi secures his first Hot Latin Songs top 10, Anuel AA claims his 18th and Daddy Yankee stretches his third-most top 10s to 34.

With “Don Don”’s arrival, Daddy Yankee and Anuel each place two songs on the chart’s upper tier. The former remains at No. 2 for a second week with “Relación,” with Sech and J Balvin, featuring Rosalía and Farruko, while the latter places at No. 5 with “La Jeepeta,” with Nio García, Myke Towers, Brray and Juanka.

The 35-year-old Colombian reggaeton singer’s bilingual collaboration with Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny and Tainy, “Un Día (One Day),” surges to No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs survey dated August 8.

The track, released July 24, dethrones another bilingual collaboration, ending the Black Eyed Peas, Ozuna and J.Rey Soul’s three-week reign with “Mamacita.”

“Un Día” is Dua Lipa’s first Hot Latin Songs entry and first No. 1 on any Billboard Latin chart. Her foray into the Latin charts began in January 2018 as all-English language track “New Rules” opened at No. 40 on the Latin Pop Airplay list. 

The new song isn’t available on her current album Future Nostalgia, which arrived at No. 4 on the overall Billboard 200 chart (April 11-dated tally).

“Un Día” was produced by Tainy and arrived with a music video directed by Colombian Stillz, which features Spanish actress Úrsula Corberó (Netflix’s Money Heist).

The song’s coronation on Hot Latin Songs, which blends airplay, streams and digital sales, is mainly attributed to streaming activity and airplay. It earned 10 million U.S. clicks in the week ending July 30, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, which yields a No. 1 debut on the Latin Streaming Songs list and a No. 45 arrival on the overall Streaming Songs chart.

“Un Día” concurrently opens at No. 1 on the Latin Digital Song Sales chart and at No. 49 on the overall Digital Song Sales chart supported by its 4,000 downloads logged in its first tracking week.

J Balvin, meanwhile, posts an eighth No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs. “Un Día,” however, earns him his first No. 1 debut.

With the song’s arrival atop the list, J Balvin places three songs in the top 10: “Ritmo (Bad Boys For Life),” with Black Eyed Peas at No. 3 and “Agua,” with Tainy which rises 11-7. The latter is featured on The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run soundtrack.

“Un Día” is just the second song to arrive at No. 1 on Hot Latin Songs in 2020. It follows Bad Bunny’s “Si Veo a Tu Mamá” (March 14-dated survey). While he secures his sixth No. 1, producer and songwriter Tainy claims his first.

Beyond its Hot Latin Songs chart-topping arrival, “Un Día” bows at No. 24 on Latin Airplay, No. 13 on Latin Rhythm Airplay and No. 17 on Latin Pop Airplay.

Rosalía Makes First Chart Visit on Billboard Hot 100 with Travis Scott Collaboration, “TKN”

The 26-year-old Grammy-winning Spanish singer has notched her first chart visit on the Billboard Hot 100, as her Travis Scott collaboration “TKN” arrives at No. 66 on the all-genre chart dated June 13.

Additionally, Rosalia and Scott’s new single debuts at No. 2 on the Hot Latin Songs chart.

The dembow-infused tune with a trap beat was co-produced by both acts with El GuinchoSky RompiendoTainy and Teo Halm. It was released May 28 via Columbia Records.

“TKN” lands on both charts mostly on the strength of streaming activity. The bilingual track collected 7.3 million U.S. clicks in the week ending June 4, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data, which yields a No. 1 debut on the Latin Streaming Songs chart.

“TKN” also registered 5,000 downloads in the week ending May 4, and debuts at No. 1 on the Latin Digital Song Sales chart. It’s the second No. 1 for Rosalia on that list, and first for Scott.

“TKN” marks the highest charting title for Rosalia on Hot Latin Songs. She previously ranked as high as No. 12 with “Yo X Ti, Tú x Mi” with Ozuna (January 11-dated tally), and with her first chart entry, “Con Altura” with J Balvin and El Guincho (chart dated June 29, 2019). 

“TKN” is the pair’s second team-up. Their first collaboration arrived through the remix of Scott’s Hot 100 No. 1 “Highest in the Room,” which also features Lil Baby.

Ozuna Earns 22nd Top 10 Hit on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs Chart with Black Eyed Peas-Collab “Mamacita”

The 28-year-old Puerto Rican reggaeton and Latin trap singer has earned his 22nd Top 10 hit on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart (dated June 6) as his collaboration with the Black Eyed Peas, “Mamacita,” rises 17-7.

“Mamacita” samples Madonna’s 1987 hit single “La Isla Bonita,” which reached No. 4 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart. As “La Isla Bonita” was co-written by Madonna, she also gets songwriting credit on “Mamacita.” In turn, “Mamacita” gives Madonna her first top 10 as a songwriter on Hot Latin Songs.

“Mamacita” rises on the strength of airplay and streaming activity: it logged 8 million in audience impressions (up 20%), earned in the week ending May 31, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data. It also pushes 10-5 on the Latin Airplay chart.

Meanwhile, “Mamacita” drew 2.4 million in U.S. streams in the week ending May 28.

In addition to its Hot Latin Songs’ hike, “Mamacita” also rises 10-7 on the Latin Digital Song Sales chart thanks to an 11% boost in digital sales.

J Balvin’s “RITMO (Bad Boys For Life)” with the Black Eyed Peas Hits No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs Chart

The 34-year-old Colombian reggaeton singer’s latest single, “RITMO (Bad Boys For Life)” with The Black Eyed Peas, has reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart.

It’s J Balvin’s eighth No. 1 on the chart.   

“RITMO,” released on October 12, crowns the tally in its 11th week after a six-week run in the top five. The track dethrones Bad Bunny’s four-week ruler “Vete.” 

Though all metrics for “RITMO” are up (sales, streams and airplay), it ascends mainly on the strength of streaming activity. The song registered 7.1 million U.S. streams (up 3%) in the week ending December 26, according to Nielsen Music, and remains at No. 5 on the Latin Streaming Songschart for a second week.   

While “RITMO” posts a 2% decline on Latin Airplay, it continues at No. 13 for a second week on the chart.

Meanwhile, the track takes the Digital Greatest Gainer honors with a 19% gain holding steady at No. 2 on the Latin Digital Song Sales list for a fifth consecutive week.

J Balvin has a total of 55 Hot Latin Songs entries.

Over on the all-genre Hot 100 chart, “RITMO” moves 89-86.

José José Lands Posthumous No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Albums Chart

Reactions to the death of the Mexican singer/musician and actor, who passed away at the age of 71 late last month, sends the Príncipe de La Canción back atop Billboard’s Latin Pop Albums chart as Serie Platino 20 Exitos, Vol. 2 opens at No. 1 on the October 12-dated chart.

Serie Platinologged 3,000 in equivalent album units earned in the week ending October 3 (up 803%), according to Nielsen Music

The 1997 album earns José his first No. 1 in over 31 years as he last took the crown in 1988 with the nine-week ruler Soy Así.

The romantic balladeer claimed his first crown, however, when Reflexiones, his 20th studio album, landed at the summit in 1985, where it remained for eight consecutive weeks.

Three other José José sets arrive on Latin Pop Albums: El Principe de La Canción at No. 6, Secretos at No. 7 and 20 Triunfadoras de José José at No. 11. With the four new albums visiting the tally for the first time, the Mexican artist now holds the record for the most chart entries with 32 (Juan Gabriel follows with 31).

The Latin Pop Albums chart ranks the most popular Latin pop albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units are comprised of traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

Concurrently, Serie PlatinoEl Principe andSecretos debut on the Top Latin Albumschart at No. 13, No. 30and No. 34, respectively; he’s had 18 total charted titles since his first entry in 1994.

In the week ending October 3, the singer-songwriter’s catalog of albums earned 8,000 equivalent album units (up 930%) and sold 2,000 copies (up from a negligible figure previously). Meanwhile, his songs logged 68 million total on-demand streams (up 1,318%).

As Serie Platinoarrives, two of the greatest-hits album’s 20 tracks enter the Latin Digital Song Sales chart: “El Triste” at No. 16 and “Amar y Querer” at No. 25. It’s José’s first visit to the chart, which began on January 2010.

José José died at 71 of pancreatic cancer in Homestead, Florida.

Anuel AA’s All-Star New Single “China” Debuts at No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs Chart

The song is the first single from Anuel’s upcoming album, Emmanuel.

“China,” produced by Tainyand co-written by each of the five artists on the track, is a reimagination of Shaggy’s “It Wasn’t Me.”

“‘China’ is the strongest song of my career up to date,” Anuel told Billboard on July 12. “It’s the mix of different cultures with each of the collaborators contributing with its own flow. I had been looking to revive a classic and when I heard Shaggy’s mix, it hit me. The original rhythm had strong Chinese elements, hence the name of the song. I sent the mix to Daddy Yankee, he loved it and recorded his part after just three days. Karol then heard it and fell in love with the vibe. Ozuna and Balvin then came on board.”

“China” opens at No. 2 on the Hot Latin Songs chart, which blends airplay, digital sales and streaming data, largely on the strength of streaming activity. It collected 14.1 million U.S. clicks in the week ending July 25, according to Nielsen Music, which enables its No. 1 debut on the Latin Streaming Songs chart.

“I always believed ‘China’ would be a hit!” Karol G tells Billboard. “Actually, I dared to tell everyone that it would be the hit of 2019! It makes me happy to be part of big opportunities such as this one, which lead the way to all those other goals that I still have to achieve.”

Sales, too, assist “China” in its Hot Latin Songs debut: The song registered 1,000 digital downloads in its first tracking week, opening at No. 1 on the Latin Digital Song Saleschart. The tune also starts at No. 34 on the Latin Airplay chart, garnering 4.8 million audience impressions in the week ending July 28.

The collaboration becomes just the second title to debut in the top two of the Hot Latin Songs chart in 2019. The only other song to debut in the top two this year was another track by J Balvin, as his collaboration with Bad Bunny, “Que Pretendes,” started at No. 2 on the July 13-dated chart.

“China” earns Anuel his 10th top 10 on the tally. It bests his second collaboration with Karol G: “Secreto,” a No. 4 high (April 27-dated list).

Meanwhile, Daddy Yankee, who nabs his 29th top 10, now ties with ChayanneChristian Castroand Shakirafor the third-most top 10s on the list which began in 1986.

Farruko Earns First No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Digital Song Sales Chart with Jason Derulo Collaboration “Mamacita”

The 28-year-old Puerto Rican singer and songwriter’s collaboration with Jason Derulo, “Mamacita,” debuts at No. 1 on Billboard’s Latin Digital Song Sales chart dated July 20, becoming the first leader on the list for both singers.

“The song came from such an honest place, I wasn’t trying to make a hit or catch any trends,” Derulo tells Billboard. “I wanted to make a party song that had a Latin feel, when I got Farruko’s verse I felt like it was going to be fire!” 

The bilingual track, produced by Nuking Uffpop, starts with 3,000 downloads sold in the week ending July 11, according to Nielsen Music.

“I’m from Miami so Latin influence has been very prevalent in my life and that’s where the idea of the song came from and the partnership with Farruko,” Derulo adds. “I didn’t expect it to go No. 1, especially in the first week. I’m shocked, but I’m very thankful.”

“Mamacita” misses charting on the Hot Latin Songs chart (which blends sales, airplay and streaming data), as the track is just getting started with streams (850,000 in the week ending July 11) and garnered minimal airplay in the week ending July 14 (with just one reporting Latin station playing the song).

Farruko scores his best debut week on the tally. “Baila Baila Baila” with OzunaDaddy YankeeJ Balvin and Anuel AA, reached No. 2  on the May 11-dated chart; with 2,000 recorded downloads in its first week.
