de la Garza to Star in ABC’s Drama Pilot “Forever”

Alana de la Garza has landed a forever role…

The 37-year-old Half-Mexican American actress has landed the female lead role opposite Ioan Gruffudd in ABC’s drama pilot Forever.

Written by Matthew Miller and directed by Brad Anderson, the project centers on Dr. Henry Morgan (Gruffudd), New York City’s star medical examiner.

What no one knows is that he studies the dead for a reason — he’s immortal.

His investigative work with recently widowed detective Jo Martinez (portrayed by de la Garza), a recovering alcoholic, and relationship with best friend Abe (Judd Hirsch) will peel back the layers of Henry’s colorful and long life.

de la Garza, best known for her role as ADA Connie Rubirosa on the television series Law & Order, most recently co-starred on NBC’s short-lived series Do No Harm. Her other credits include All My Children, JAG, Charmed, Two and a Half Men, Las Vegas and CSI: Miami.

Marcil Returning to “General Hospital” for Brief Stint

It looks like Vanessa Marcil is checking back into General Hospital

The 44-year-old half-Mexican American actress will reprise her star-making role as Brenda Barrett Corinthos on ABC’s long-running soap opera, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The announcement comes as General Hospital continues to celebrate its 50th anniversary on the network.

GH hasn’t announced Marcil’s return date, but sources say it’ll happen sometime before April 1.

Marcil is expected to appear on the daytime soap for more than a few weeks, meaning fans will see the love triangle between Jax (Ingo Rademacher, who will be returning at the same time as Marcil), Brenda and Sonny (Maurice Benard).

Marcil originated the role of Brenda in 1992. After an eight-year absence from the show, she returned to GH for a year from 2010-11.

Marcil’s other credits include starring on NBC’s Las Vegas series, appearing in Prince’s “The Most Beautiful Girl in the World” video and guest-starring on Hawaii Five-0.

Ashanti to Star on Lifetime’s “Army Wives” Next Season

The 32-year-old part-Dominican singer/actress is joining the cast of Lifetime’s Army Wives for its upcoming seventh season.

Ashanti – who joins the cast as a series regular – will play Latasha Durant, an optimistic mother of three, a sexy, fun woman who knows how to keep a husband – and how to keep him in line.

It’s the first series regular role for Ashanti, whose previous television credits include appearances on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Las Vegas.

She’s also appeared on film in the John Tucker Must Die, Coach Carter and Resident Evil Extinction.

Filming on Army Wives’ seventh season will begin in mid-December in Charleston, South Carolina.

Prince’s ex-wife Mayte Garcia is about to get real

The 38-year-old Puerto Rican-Egyptian dancer and singer, who was married to Prince from 1996-2000, will star on VH1’s tentatively titled Hollywood Exes, alongside  Nicole Murphy (formerly Mrs. Eddie Murphy), Jessica Canseco (formerly Mrs. Jose Canseco), Sheree Fletcher (formerly Mrs. Will Smith) and Andrea Kelly (formerly Mrs. R Kelly).

“These extraordinarily strong women adjusted to and endured a lot while their ex-spouses won fame and fortune defining pop culture for that moment,” said Jeff Olde, VH1’s EVP original programming and production.

He continued, “Now these women must re-invent themselves again, stepping out of the long shadows cast by their famous husbands and supporting each other as they define the next stage of their lives – this time on their own terms.”

Hollywood Exes sets out to peel back the curtain on Cinderella tales gone wrong. These five women in particular have been friends for several years and are looking to make a name for themselves outside of their famous exes.

Garcia choreographed Britney Spears’ belly dancing routines for her “I’m a Slave 4 U” music video and performance at the MTV Video Music Awards. She’s also guest starred on several TV series, including Psych, The Closer, Las Vegas, Nip/Tuck and Army Wives.

The unscripted hour-long series, which been granted a 10 episode order by the pop culture-themed network, is set to bow on VH1 this summer.
