Ferrera Back for “How to Train Your Dragon 2”

America Ferrera is back to training dragons

The 29-year-old Honduran American actress is back for the sequel to the hit animated film How to Train Your Dragon, voicing the character of Astrid Hofferson once again.

How to Train Your Dragon

In the just-released teaser trailer for How to Train Your Dragon 2, there aren’t too many plot details revealed, but you can see some fancy flying.

The sequel takes place five years after the 2010 original — a half-billion-dollar global sleeper for DreamWorks Animation — and Toothless the dragon’s human Hiccup is decidedly in teenager mode.

The first pic boasted a soaring 98% positive reviews score en route to an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature and director Dean DeBlois is back.

Along with Ferrera, the voice cast includes Jay Baruchel, Kristen Wiig, Gerald Butler, Jonah Hill and Craig Ferguson.

The sequel is set to hit theaters next summer.

Alba Starring in IFC’s New Original Comedy “The Spoils of Babylon”

Jessica Alba is Babylon-bound.

The 32-year-old half-Mexican American actress has joined the cast of IFC’s new original comedy The Spoils of Babylon, starring Will Ferrell.

Jessica Alba

A parody of epic television mini-series, The Spoils of Babylon is produced by Funny or Die and executive produced by Ferrell,

Along with Ferrell and Alba, the cast includes Val Kilmer, Tobey Maguire, Haley Joel Osment, Michael Sheen, Tim Robbins and Kristen Wiig.

“This amazingly talented cast will give this decadent genre its due respect,” said Jennifer Caserta, president and general manager of IFC. “Never before has a parody of a mini-series been more poised for showers of accolades.”

The Spoils of Babylon is a television adaptation of a best-selling epic novel by fictional famous author Eric Jonrosh (Ferrell) whose library spans 57 best sellers in 85 different languages. Jonrosh’s other titles include: The Spoils of Galaxy 7, The Spoils of Grasping for God, The Spoils of the Sahara, The Spoils of the Singing Night Squirrel, The Spoils of the Weeping Falcon and The Spoils Beneath the Sea.

“I’m thrilled my masterwork is finally making it to the screen, albeit the small screen. Although I guess these days people have pretty big screens in their homes but still not as big as “the big screen.” I mean, some people who have home theaters might have screens that big, but most wouldn’t, at least that’s what I would imagine. Still, I’m thrilled, and I personally DO have a giant screen TV so….” trailed off Jonrosh in a quote that was dictated over the phone from his yacht The Super Bard, anchored off his personal island in the Caspian Sea.

The Spoils of Babylon, a century-spanning saga, chronicles the sexy and dramatic lives of the Morehouse family, led by Jonas Morehouse (Robbins), his daughter Cynthia (Wiig) and her adopted brother Devon (Maguire) who made their fortune in the oil business. The series takes viewers from the oil fields of Texas to boardrooms in New York City, through war torn battlefields and velvet-sheeted bedrooms.

Cynthia and Devon’s unbridled and taboo passion for one another cannot be prevented. Add in Cynthia’s evil son Winston (Osment), her put upon husband Chet Halner (Sheen), and Devon’s new love interest Dixie Mellonworth (Alba), and the booze, the pills, more passion, more pills and the heartache, and you have a mercurial potboiler. Then add in illegal arms deals, international espionage, the Shah of Iran (Ferrell), and two US Army Generals (Kilmer, Steve Tom) and it begins to overflow with boiling liquid in a pot on a hot stove that is operational.

Production began June 2 in Los Angeles. Six, half-hour episodes will premiere on IFC in early 2014.

Benjamin Bratt is showing off his macho side…

Universal Pictures has released a teaser still of the main antagonist of the highly anticipated sequel to Despicable Me featuring the 49-year-old half-Peruvian American actor, who signed on to replace Al Pacino as the voice of the villain Eduardo in Despicable Me 2 in early May.

Benjamin Bratt's Character in Despicable Me 2

The sequel centers on ex-villain Gru, whose calm and unexciting new life is turned upside down when Agent Lucy Wilde of the Anti-Villain League visits him for a purpose. Despite his unwillingness, Gru is assigned to help take down Eduardo, armed with some cool new cars, gadgets and weapons.

Directed by Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud, who served behind the lens for the first film, the sequel also sees the return of Russell Brand and Miranda Cosgrove as Dr. Nefario and Margo respectively.

Meanwhile, Saturday Night Live alum Kristen Wiig, who voiced Miss Hattie in the first film lends her voice for the role of Agent Lucy this time around.

Despicable Me 2 will open in theaters nationwide on July 3.

Vergara Shines in First SNL Hosting Gig…

Talk about Lucky No. 7… This Saturday, Sofia Vergara became only the seventh Latina to host NBC’s Saturday Night Live in the sketch comedy show’s 37 seasons.

And the 39-year-old Colombian actress—who gave one of the night’s most memorable acceptance speeches at this year’s Golden Globes—didn’t disappoint in her first at-bat as guest host.

Sofia Vergara Saturday Night Live

Looking absolutely stunning in a sleek black bustier-dress, the “world’s most desirable woman” kicked off the show with a hilarious monologue that included welcoming viewers to “La noche de sabado en vivo” and poking fun at her sex appeal and unmistakable accent.

“I always heard that immigrants had a really hard life when they came to America,” joked Vergara. “But when I showed up here everyone was so nice. The men bought me drinks and offered me a place to sleep. This country welcomed me with open arms… and pulled-down pants.”

Later Vergara—a two-time Emmy nominee—appeared in several memorable skits. She played an anchorwoman shooting a promo with a complicated coworker, a sex education teacher in another of Kristen Wiig’s hilarious Gilly sketches and a woman trying to find her birth mother on Fred Armisen’s always funny The Manuel Ortiz Show skit—which included an appearance by musical guest One Direction’s members as her five sons.

One of the brightest moments of the night came when Vergara impersonated another actress with a distinctive voice: The Nanny’s Fran Drescher. The Colombian bombshell mastered Drescher’s high-pitched voice and quirky laugh during the Bein’ Quirky with Zooey Deschanel skit.

In another highlight, Vergara played the newest member of the team reporting on the 74th Annual Hunger Games, a parody of the recent blockbuster smash The Hunger Games . The skit featured Vergara’s character Maria Gutierrez reporting live from the arena on the action of the 24 tributes battling to the death. “They should call it the FUNger Games,” said Vergara. “‘cause everyone is having so much fun.”

But the biggest laughs of the night came when Vergara played herself while shooting a Pantene commercial with a Penelope Cruz, who also has a discernible accent. While Vergara was given easy words to say in the commercial, Cruz had to say difficult words like “follicular development” and “ammonium laureth sulfate.”
