Shakira Among Finalists for This Year’s Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame

Shakira is known for her stellar songwriting… And, it could soon land her in the annals of history.

The 39-year-old Colombian singer-songwriter appears on the list of nominees in the performers (singer/songwriters) category to the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame 2016.

Shakira, who penned several of her hit singles, including “Inevitable,” “She Wolf,” and “Whenever, Wherever,” joins a list that includes fellow performers Juanes, Marco Antonio Solis and Draco Rosa.

Shakira won the Latin Grammy for Song of the Year in 2006 for her massive international hit “La Tortura.”

Non-performer (composers) finalists include Kike Santander, Carlos Lara, Chico Navarro and Alejandro Jean.

The final list of artists and composers chosen to be inducted into the LSHOF will be announced at the 2016 Latin Billboard Music Conference taking place in April.

The selected six winners will then be inducted into the esteemed hall during the fourth annual La Musa Awards at the Filmore Miami Beach Jackie Gleason Theater on October 13.

Hillary Clinton’s First-Ever Spotify Playlist Includes Lopez’s “Let’s Get Loud”

Jennifer Lopez is making Loud noise on Hillary Clinton’s MP3 player…

The presidential hopeful officially launched her campaign over the weekend, and as part of that, she also joined Spotify and put together her very first playlist “The Official Hillary 2016 Playlist.”

The 14-song mix is chock-full of inspirational pop, with powerful lady songs, including the 45-year-old Puerto Rican singer, actress and American Idol judge’s “Let’s Get Loud.”

Other power anthem’s include Katy Perry‘s “Roar,” Sara Bareilles‘ “Brave” and Kelly Clarkson‘s “Stronger.”

Elsewhere, the playlist contains “Happy” and “Beautiful Day,” which all continue the themes she’s trying to push in her campaign.

“Let’s Get Loud,” a disco-salsa pop song about never giving up, appeared on J.Lo’s debut album On the 6, which was released in 1999. An accompanying music video was directed by Jeffrey Doe and filmed live at the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The track, co-written by Gloria Estefan and Kike Santander, charted on several charts around the world, reaching the top ten on five European countries.

Lopez earned her second consecutive nomination for the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording with the song.

Pitbull Receives BMI President’s Award

He’s made music that has seriously entertained the masses… And, now Pitbull is being recognized for his influence on the entertainment industry.

The 31-year-old Cuban American rap superstar—who recently partnered with Jennifer Lopez on “Dance Again,” their second hit single together—received the BMI President’s Award during the 19th edition of the BMI Awards.

Held Friday night at the Encore Hotel in Las Vegas, the gala also served to recognize the work of songwriters and recording studios for the success of their musical creations in 2011.

Pitbull, who performed at the ceremony, also received the BMI award for songwriter of the year, a recognition he shared with Juan Luis Morena Luna “Wisin,” Llandel Veguilla Malave “Yandel” and Espinoza Paz.

“Niña de mi corazon,” recorded by La Arrolladora Banda El Limon, was selected as the BMI Latin song of the year with the award going to songwriter Horacio Palencia.

In the past, the BMI President’s Award has been presented to Juanes, Kike Santander and Gloria Estefan.
