Lin-Manuel Miranda Earns Guild of Music Supervisors Awards Nomination

Lin-Manuel Miranda is a Guild-y pleasure…

The Guild of Music Supervisors has unveiled the nominees for its 12th annual award ceremony, with the 42-year-old Puerto Rican Tony Award-winning star earning a nod.

Miranda is nominated in the Best Song Written and/or Recorded for a Film category for “Dos Oruguitas.” The Oscar-nominated track, performed by Sebastián Yatra, is featured in Disney’s Encanto.

Mary Ramos is nominated in the Best Music Supervision for Film Budgeted Over $25 Million for her work on Being The Ricardos.

Kid Cudi is nominated in the Best Song Written and/or Recorded for a Film category for “Guns Go Bang,” the single he cowrote with Jeymes Samuel and Shawn Carter (Jay Z). Kid Cudi and Jay Z perform the track for the film The Harder They Fall.

Bruno Mars is nominated in the Best Song Written and/or Recorded for a Film category for co-writing “Fire In The Sky” from Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings. Mars cowrote the song with Anderson .Paak, who performs the song for the film, Son Tzu, Rogét Chahayed, Wesley Singerman, Taylor Dexter and Alissia Benveniste.

Janet Lopez is nominated in the Best Music Supervision – Television Comedy or Musical category for her work on Season 1 of HBO’s The White Lotus.

Stephanie Diaz-Matos and Eric Medina are nominated in the Best Music Supervision – Reality Television category for their work on Sweet Life: Los Angeles – Season 1.

Demi Lovato is nominated in the Best Song Written and/or Recorded for Television category for co-writing “Anyone,” which was performed by the cast of Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist.

The Guild of Music Supervisors awards celebrating outstanding achievement in the craft of music supervision in film, television, games, documentaries, advertising, and trailers.

Prolific songwriter Diane Warren will receive the Guild of Music Supervisors’ Icon Award at the ceremony taking place virtually on March 20th, with 45-year music industry veteran claiming the Legacy Award.

The Guild of Music Supervisors is a non-profit organization that was founded in 2010 with the goal of preserving and promoting the critical role of the music supervisor within all forms of media.

Kid Cudi to Co-Headline This Year’s Governors Ball at New York’s Citi Field

Kid Cudi is the beau of the Ball…

The 37-year-old half-Mexican American singer/rapper is set to co-headline the 2022 Governors Ball festival at Citi Field in Queens, New York.

Kid Cudi will co-headline alongside J.Cole and Halsey at the festival, which will take place on June 10-12.

The event will also feature sets from Migos, Jack Harlow, Louis the Child, Black Pumas, Skepta, Beabadoobee, Flume, Roddy Ricch, YG, Tove Lo, Denzel Curry, Playboi Carti, Glass Animals, Kaytranada, Clairo, Becky G, Jazmine Sullivan, Japanese Breakfast, 100 Gecs and many more.

Tickets for the event go on sale on Thursday, January 27 at noon ET on the event’s website; a special presale for three-day and one-day passes and VIP tickets will open exclusively for Citi cardmembers from 10 a.m. ET on Tuesday (Jan. 25) through 11:59 a.m. ET on Thursday (Jan. 27).

In a release announcing this year’s event, promoters Founders Entertainment also said that they’ll be donating $25,000 to the New York City Mayor’s Fund for the victims of January’s devastating Bronx apartment building fire that killed 17 and injured dozens of others; attendees can also support the victims of the blaze by donation to the relief effort via The Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City.

Other artists slated to perform at this year’s Governors Ball include JPEGMAFIA, Coi Leray, Channel Tres, Joji, Still Woozy, ASHNIKKO, Chelsea Cutler, Diesel (Shaquille O’Neal), Gus Dapperton, J.I.D, COIN, Soccer Mommy, Surf Curse, DUCKWRTH, Del Water Gap and more.

The festival celebrated its 10th anniversary in the fall with a show that featured headliners Post Malone, Billie Eilish and A$AP Rocky. As usual, the 2022 festival will feature a rich array of craft cocktails, beers, food, surprise pop-up performances and art installations.

Kid Cudi is bringing the fire back to Southern California this spring…

The 37-year-old half-Mexican American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor will co-headline Smoker’s Club Fest 2022 in Southern California at the end of April.

Kid Cudi will headline the festival alongside A$AP Rocky and Playboi Carti.

The music festival and joint celebration of hip-hop and cannabis culture will take place at the 65,000-capacity Glen Helen Amphitheater in San Bernardino, California, on Saturday, April 30.

More performers on the festival lineup include: Ferg, Schoolboy Q, Wiz Khalifa, 2 Chainz, Joey Bada$$, Dom Kennedy, Larry June, Lupe Fiasco, Curren$y, Danny Brown, Rico Nasty, Earl Sweatshirt, Wale, Reason, and Casey Veggies, among many others.

The lineup looks very similar to its 2018 edition, which Cudi also headlined alongside Khalifa and Schoolboy Q in Long Beach.

Rocky and Cudi headlined two different Rolling Loud festivals last year, with Rocky leading Rolling Loud Miami in July 2021 and Cudi kicking off day one of Rolling Loud L.A. in December, where he teased another album.

Rocky, who performed his debut 2011 mixtape Live. Love. ASAP at ComplexCon 2021 last November, has been consistently topping festival bills and teased in his GQ cover story that he was coming out with a new album tentatively titled All Smiles soon. Carti recently wrapped up his Narcissist Tour last month.

Kid Cudi Honored by African American Film Critics Association for “The Harder They Fall” Music

Kid Cudi is a critics choice…

The 37-year-old half-Mexican American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and actor has picked up his first-ever award from the African American Film Critics Association.

Kid Cudi, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, won the Best Music prize during the 13th annual African American Film Critics Association Awards announcement.

Kid Cudi picked up the award for co-writing “Guns Go Bang” alongside Jeymes Samuel and Jay-Z for Netflix’s The Harder They Fall.

Winners will be feted on March 2 in Los Angeles.

“It’s been a fantastic year for film,” said AAFCA president and co-founder Gil Robertson. “Just having passed the two-year mark of a global pandemic, great entertainment means more to all of us than ever before. This year’s AAFCA winners not only entertained us but educated and inspired us and we’re looking forward to celebrating them at the AAFCA Awards.”

Jared Leto Earns Two Screen Actors Guild Awards Nominations

Life’s a SAG for Jared Leto…

The Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations have been revealed, with the 50-year-old part-Spanish American actor/singer earning two nods.

Leto, who previously won a SAG Award in 214 for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club, is nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role category for his performance in House of Gucci.

It’s the second year in a row Leto is nominated in the category. Last year, he earned a nod for his supporting role in The Little Things.

He’s also nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture for being part of the ensemble cast of House of Gucci, alongside fellow Latinx nominee… Mexican actress Salma Hayek, who was previously nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role for her work in Frida.

Javier Bardem could earn his third SAG Award this year…

The 52-year-old Spanish Oscar-winning actor, who previously won two SAG Awards in 2008 for No Country for Old Men, is nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role for his performance as the legendary Desi Arnaz in Being the Ricardos.

Ariana DeBose is celebrating her first-ever SAG Awards nomination…

The 30-year-old part-Puerto Rican actress and Broadway star, who won her first Golden Globe this past weekend, is nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role for her acclaimed work as Anita in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story.

Eugenio Derbez and Scott Mescudi, aka Kid Cudi, have both earned the first SAG Awards nominations of their careers. Derbes and Mescudi will compete in the Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture category.

Derbez is nominated for his work in CODA, while Mescudi is nominated for his role Don’t Look Up.

Oscar Isaac has earned his first SAG Awards nod.

The 27-year-old part-Puerto Rican actor, who was previously nominated for SAG Awards as part of the ensemble cast of ABC’s Ugly Betty, is nominated in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for his work on HBO’s Hacks.

Selena Gomez is officially a SAG Awards nominee.

The 29-year-old Mexican American actress/singer has picked up her first-ever SAG Awards nomination in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for her performance in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building alongside her cast mate and fellow first-time SAG Awards nominee Aaron Dominguez.

The 30-year-old Mexican actor and former professional footballer is nominated in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for Ted Lasso.

This year’s nominations were announced on Instagram Live by Rosario Dawson and Vanessa Hudgens on Wednesday.

After going virtual last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the SAG Awards will this year air live on TNT and TBS on Sunday, February 27 at 8:00 pm ET/5:00 pm PT from Barker Hangar in Santa Monica.

Helen Mirren will receive the Life Achievement Award at the 28th annual ceremony.

Kid Cudi Earns Two SCL Awards Nominations from Society of Composers & Lyricists

Kid Cudi is doubling his chances…

The 37-year-old half-Mexican American apper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and actor, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, has earned two SCL Awards nominations from the Society of Composers & Lyricists , his first-ever nods from the organization.

Kid Cudi earned one nod in the Song Drama/Documentary category for co-writing “Guns Go Bang,” alongside Jay-Z and Jeymes Samuel for the Netflix film The Harder They Fall.

He’s also nominated in the Song Musical/Comedy category for co-penning “Just Look Up,” with Nicholas Britell, Ariana Grande and Taura Stinson, for Netflix’s Don’t Look Up.

Germaine Franco is also a two-time nominee…

The 34-year-old Latina film composer is nominated in the Studio Film category for her work on Walt Disney Pictures’ Encanto.

She’s also nominated in the Interactive category for her work on Kung Fu Panda: Land of Awesomeness.

Lin-Manuel Miranda has earned a nod in the Song Musical/Comedy category.

The 41-year-old Puerto Rican multi-hyphenate is nominated for penning the track “Home All Summer” for In The Heights, the film adaptation of his Tony Award-winning Broadway musical of the same name.

Alberto Iglesias is competing in the Independent category.

The 66-year-old Spanish award-winning composer is nominated for his acclaimed work on Pedro Almodovar’s Spanish-language film Parallel Mothers, which stars Penelope Cruz.

Cristobal Tapia de Veer is a nominee in the Television category.

The 48-year-old Chilean film and television score composer, arranger, producer and multi-instrumentalist is nominated for his work on Apple TV’s The White Lotus.

The annual SCL Awards, now in their year, honor music in visual media — film, television, streaming, interactive — spanning seven categories plus the David Raksin Award for Emerging Talent.

The in-person trophy show — COVID-19-permitting — will be hosted by Darren Criss on Tuesday, February 1, at the Skirball Cultural Center in Los Angeles.

Composer Carter Burwell and filmmakers Joel Coen & Ethan Coen will receive the Spirit of Collaboration Award for their 17-film team-up along with a musical tribute performance. The live lineup includes Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear and Judith Hill.

The 76-year-old Society of Composers & Lyricists is the primary organization for professional film, TV, video game, and musical theater composers and lyricists.

Kid Cudi’s “Man On the Moon III: The Chosen” Returns to Billboard’s Top Album Sales Following Vinyl Release

Kid Cudi’s vinyl-ly back on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart.

The vinyl release of the 37-year-old half-Mexican American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer and actor’s Man On the Moon III: The Chosen has pushed the album back onto Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart dated Jan. 1, 2022 — and straight into the top five.

On the Top Album Sales chart, Kid Cudi’s Man On the Moon III: The Chosen scores a new high, as it re-enters at No. 4.

The new showing surpasses the album’s previous high-water mark of No. 10 with 42,000 sold (up 4,359%; its best sales week).

The Chosen dropped on vinyl LP for the first time on December 17. Vinyl sales comprised 41,500 of the album’s sales for the week.

The Chosen was originally released on December 11, 2020 as a digital album and via streaming services. Its CD edition arrived on June 18. It previously notched two nonconsecutive weeks on Top Album Sales (the December 26, 2020 and July 3, 2021-dated charts).

The Chosen has now sold 81,000 copies since its original release, across all of its available retail formats (physical and digital combined), in the U.S.

On Billboard’s Vinyl Albums chart, which ranks the top-selling vinyl albums of the week, The Chosen debuts at No. 2.

Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart ranks the top-selling albums of the week based only on traditional album sales. The chart’s history dates back to May 25, 1991, the first week Billboard began tabulating charts with electronically monitored piece count information from SoundScan, now MRC Data. Pure album sales were the sole measurement utilized by the Billboard 200 albums chart through the list dated December 6, 2014, after which that chart switched to a methodology that blends album sales with track equivalent album units and streaming equivalent album units.

Kid Cudi Makes Oscar’s Short List in Best Original Song Category for “Just Look Up” & “Guns Go Bang”

Kid Cudi is thisclose to earning an Oscar nomination (or two)…

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has cut its Original Song Oscar category list to 15 songs that made the shortlist, with the 37-year-old half-Mexican American Grammy-winning singer/actor having two songs still in the running.

Kid Cudi’s collaboration with Ariana Grande “Just Look Up,” co-written by the singers, from the film Don’t Look Up is still under consideration.

Meanwhile, Kid Cudi’s song “Guns Go Bang,” co-written with Jay-Z for the film The Harder They Fall is also still in the running for a nomination.

Lin-Manuel Miranda could also pick up another Oscar nod.

The 41-year-old Puerto Rican multi-hyphentate, who earned a nomination in the Best Original Song category in 2016 for his Moana single “How Far I’ll Go,” is still in the running for his single “Dos Oruguitas” from Disney’s Encanto.

A total of 84 songs were eligible in the category this year.

Rita Moreno Earns Career-First “Critics Choice Awards” Nod in a Film Category for “West Side Story” Performance

Rita Moreno is a Critics Choice…

The 90-year-old Puerto Rican actress/singer and Latina living legend has picked up the first Critics Choice Awards nominations in the film category of her storied career.

Moreno is nominated in the Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story, a remake of the 1961 musical romantic drama that earned her an Academy Award.

In addition, Moreno and her West Side Story co-stars are nominated in the Best Ensemble category.

Moreno’s co-star Ariana DeBose is also a Best Supporting Actress nominee.

The 30-year-old half-Afro-Puerto Rican actress, singer and dancer, and first-time Golden Globe nominee this year, is nominated for her performance as Anita, a role that earned Moreno her Oscar in 1961.

Rachel Zegler, who earned her first-ever Golden Globe nomination on Monday, has earned a Critics Choice Awards nod in the Best Young Actor/Actress category for her starring role in West Side Story.

Jared Leto has earned a nod in the Best Supporting Actor category for his work in House of Gucci.

Guillermo del Toro is nominated for Best Director for helming Nightmare Alley, while Kid Cudi is nominated in the Best Song category for co-penning the track “Just Look Up” from the film Don’t Look Up. Kid Cudi will go against Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is nominated for penning the track “Dos Oruguitas,” a single from Disney’s Encanto.

“We are so proud to be honoring this amazing list of films and the incredibly talented people who made them during this extremely challenging time,” said Critics Choice Association CEO Joey Berlin. “All eyes are going to be on the Fairmont Century Plaza red carpet and ballroom on January 9th, when the biggest stars in movies and television will be gathered to celebrate the best of the best in entertainment this past year. In the safest possible environment, it will mark the return of the kind of glitz and glamor we haven’t been able to enjoy in far too long.”

The Critics Choice Awards nominations are selected from a membership of over 500 have often proved to be a harbinger of what is to come for the Oscars.

Winners in all categories will be revealed at the Critics Choice Awards gala, hosted by Taye Diggs and Nicole Byer and broadcast live on The CW and TBS on Sunday, January 9 from 7:00 – 10:00 pm ET (delayed PT – check local listings).

Kid Cudi Releases New Ariana Grande Collaboration “Just Look Up”

Things are looking up for Kid Cudi…

The 37-year-old half-Mexican American singer, whose real name is Scott Mescudi, has officially released his new collaboration with Ariana Grande, “Just Look Up.”

The new song appears on the soundtrack to the Adam McKay-directed film Don’t Look Up, which stars both Grande and Cudi and begins streaming on Netflix on December 10.

Don’t Look Up also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Timothée Chalamet, Cate Blanchett, Tyler Perry, and others.

The soundtrack is out December 10.

Don’t Look Up is the next chapter in both Grande and Cudi’s film careers.

Grande was recently cast in the upcoming film adaptation of Wicked.

A new documentary about Cudi arrived last month.

Grande and Cudi also last released albums in 2020: Positions and Man on the Moon III: The Chosen, respectively.
