Julia Mayorga to Star in the Indie Drama “People Not Places”

The Latina actress has landed in the indie drama People Not Places, hailing from director Brad Furman.

Julia Mayorga,Mayorga is joined by Allegra Leguizamo as new cast additions to the film that will star Shirley MacLaine and Stephen Dorff.

Written by Ellen Brown Furman, the filmmaker’s mother, the film centers on Clare (MacLaine), an elderly widow living in Atlantic City who meets an erratic homeless man (Dorff) who sleeps in cars. Their shared loneliness causes them to bond, as they find the courage to face his regrettable past and her shortened future.

Mayorga plays Sarah, Clare’s stunning daughter-in-law with an artistic flair, who creates jewelry. Her husband Cole is torn between his need to support Sarah’s ambition and his mother’s need for more time with her son.

Leguizamo plays Allison, a young woman who asked for a gardener but got much more.

Furman and Jess Fuerst are producing the film under their Road Less Traveled Productions banner.

Currently, Mayorga can be seen opposite Jeff Daniels, Bill Camp and Maura Tierney on Showtime’s American Rust, which moved to Prime Video for its second season earlier this year.

She can also be seen leading the drama Rare Objects, marking the latest directorial outing of Katie Holmes.

Seen on series like The Equalizer and New Amsterdam, Leguizamo will next appear in Furman’s action thriller Tin Soldier, starring Jamie Foxx, Robert De Niro and Scott Eastwood, as well as Rachel Israel’s comedy The Floaters starring Jackie Tohn, Aya Cash, Jake Ryan and Seth Green.

Recently, she wrapped production on Flash Warning, a short film she stars in, which she also wrote and directed.

Hagan Oliveras to Star in Broadway Revival of Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town”

The upcoming fall Broadway revival of Thornton Wilder’s Our Town will feature a 28-actor cast, including the Latino actor.

The strictly limited engagement, directed by Kenny Leon, will begin previews at the Barrymore Theatre on Tuesday, September 17 ahead of an opening on Thursday, October 10.

Parsons will play the Stage Manager, with Deutch as Emily Webb, Holmes as Mrs. Webb, Sykes as George Gibbs and Thomas as Mr. Webb. Billy Eugene Jones will play Dr. Gibbs, Michelle Wilson will be Mrs. Gibbs and Julie Halston will portray Mrs. Soames. Donald Webber Jr. will play Simon Stimpson.

Also in the cast: Ephie Aardema, Heather Ayers, Willa Bost, Bobby Daye, Safiya Kaijya Harris, Doron JéPaul, Shyla Lefner, Anthony Michael Lopez, John McGinty, Bryonha Marie, Kevyn Morrow, Noah Pyzik, Sky Smith, Bill Timoney, Matthew Elijah Webb and Nimene Sierra Wureh.

Two final actors will be announced at a later date.

The production’s design team will include scenic design by Beowulf Boritt; costume design by Dede Ayite; lighting design by Allen Lee Hughes; and sound design by Justin Ellington.

The first Broadway revival of Our Town since a 2002 production that starred Paul Newman as the Stage Manager, the classic drama set in Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, originally debuted on Broadway in 1938, winning the Pulitzer Prize and quickly becoming one of the most beloved and staged American plays of the 20th Century.

“Thornton Wilder’s Our Town in my mind stands at the top of the Mount Rushmore of great American Theatre,” said director Leon in a statement. “I feel blessed and fortunate to have gained the trust of The Wilder estate to present this classic to another generation of theatre lovers. It’s long been a burning desire to collaborate on a Broadway production of such magnitude that speaks so beautifully and intimately to all people about our shared time on the planet.”

The revival is being produced by Jeffrey Richards, Hunter Arnold, Patty Baker, Craig Balsam, Irene Gandy, Rebecca Gold, Louise Gund, Willette & Manny Klausner, M/B/P Productions, Daryl Roth and Jayne Baron Sherman.

Olivares previous credits include American Horror Stories.

Consuelos to Star in Katie Holmes’ Directorial Debut “All We Had”

The 44-year-old half-Mexican actor has joined the cast of All We Had, the directorial debut of Katie Holmes.

Consuelos, best known for his role as Mateo Santos on All My Children, will portray “Vic.”

Stefania Owen, Luke Wilson, Richard Kind and Judy Greer also star in the film about a young mother and her teenage daughter who relocate to a small midwestern town during the height of the worldwide economic crisis in hopes of making a better life.

Josh Boone and Jill Killington wrote the script, based on the novel by Annie Weatherwax.

Consuelos currently stars in Amazon’s political comedy series Alpha House.

His other credits include Guys with Kids, The New Normal, American Horror Story: Asylum and Ugly Betty.

Thorne Joins the Voice Cast of the Animated Film “Underdogs”

It’s okay to call Bella Thorne an underdog

The 17-year-old half-Cuban American actress/singer and former Disney Channel star has joined the voice cast of the animated film Underdogs.

From The Weinstein Co., the Argentine-Spanish family flick from director Juan J. Campanella tracks a shy but talented foosball player who defends his town and his girl from a nefarious soccer player with the help of his foosball table figurines, who come magically to life.

The film is undergoing a Hollywood revision and Ariana Grande, Nicholas Hoult, Matthew Morrison, Katie Holmes, John Leguizamo, Eugenio Derbez, Taran Killam, Bobby Moynihan, and Chazz Palminteri are currently recording English-language dialogue with some script retooling for the domestic audience.

Thorne will voice the younger version of love interest Laura, also played by Grande and Holmes.

Thorne is known for Disney Channel’s Shake It Up and her recurring roles on Dirty Sexy Money and Big Love and was recently seen in theaters in Disney’s Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. She also guest-starred on CBSCSI.

She joins Underdogs after starring in another Weinstein Co. release, the Blumhouse/Dimension-produced Amityville: The Awakening.

Underdogs is set to open in theaters on April 10, 2015.

The 50-year-old Colombian actor/comedian has landed a voice-acting role in Underdogs, an animated family film being produced by the Weinstein Company.

Leguizamo joins a cast that includes Ariana Grande, Katie Holmes, Matthew Morrison, Nicholas Hoult, and Saturday Night Lives Taran Killam and Bobby Moynihan.

The plot involves a childhood foosball rivalry that turns into a magical adventure.

Underdogs, directed by Oscar-winner Juan Jose Campanella, will hit theaters on April 10, 2015.

Sosa to Compete on Season Two of “Project Runway: All Stars”

It’s second chance time for Emilio Sosa

The 46-year-old Dominican-born fashion designer will be competing on the second season of Project Runway: All Stars.

Sosa, who took second place on the show’s seventh season, will face off against 12 other returning competitors: Wendy Pepper (season one); Andrae Gonzalo (season two); Kayne Gillaspie and Uli Herzner (season three); Suede Baum (season five); Althea Harper (season six); Peach Carr, Ivy Higa and Casanova (season eight); and Joshua McKinley, Laura Kathleen and Anthony Ryan Auld (season nine), according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Sosa immediately started working on the costumes for the Broadway musical of Porgy and Bess after the reality show’s finale and even earned a Tony Award nomination for Best Costume Design for a Musical earlier this year. In addition, he co-owns a fashion design business with his three brothers.

“After ‘Project Runway,’ I opened our company esosa designs with Jose, Nicolas and Felipe,” Sosa told NBC Latino. “They are the core of my support team…and now my nephews and nieces can have something to continue the Sosa legacy.”

He’ll now have the chance to accomplish what fellow Latino Project Runway runner-up Mondo Guerra did: win the show’s all-star edition. Project Runway: All Stars debuted in January, with Guerra being declared the season one winner.

Model Carolyn Murphy will take over hosting duties from Angela Lindvall. Katie Holmes was previously revealed to be one of the season two guest judges.

The second season is set to premiere at 9:00 pm on October 25.
