It looks like Cameron Diaz may be getting bad all over again…

Columbia Pictures is currently developing Bad Teacher 2, with the 40-year-old half-Cuban American actress attached to star in the film.

No official deal has yet been set with Diaz, who took little upfront money the first time around and made a fortune when the bawdy film became a surprise hit.

Bad Teacher 2 is set to be directed by Jake Kasdan and written by Justin Malen.

Sony Pictures production president Hanna Minghella said the studio “loves Justin’s take on the material – it hits all the notes that made the first film such a breakthrough hit and also takes the characters in a new direction that is fresh and fun.”

The original earned $216 million worldwide and hatched a half-hour series for CBS that will star Ari Graynor. The Sony Pictures Television and CBS Television Studios co-production received a 13-episode midseason order.

Diaz earned a Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie Actress: Comedy for her performance in Bad Teacher. She portrayed an amoral, gold digging Chicago-area middle school teacher at the fictional John Adams Middle School who curses at her students, drinks heavily, smokes marijuana, and only shows movies while she sleeps through class.
