Natti Natasha to Co-Host This Year’s Latin American Music Awards

Natti Natasha is ready to run the show…

The 36-year-old Dominican singer will make her hosting debut at the 2023 Latin American Music Awards.

Natti NatashaThe “Sin Pijama” singer will co-host the awards ceremony — which will be broadcast live on April 20 — alongside Julian Gil and Galilea Montijo. 

“I’ve never shied away from living new experiences, and tackling new challenges,” Natasha tells Billboard. “Hosting an award show is something new and exciting for me. It gives me a way to connect with a live audience and those watching at home, and celebrate with them our culture and passion through what we love … música!”

Natasha adds that she’s already preparing for the big day.

“The work begins now! In the next weeks, I look forward to working with producers, creatives, wardrobe and production as a whole to ensure we give audiences an evening to remember.”

Natti Natasha is also up for three awards this year. She’s nominated in the categories best artist – urban, best collaboration – pop/urban and collaboration of the year for “Mayor Que Usted,” with Daddy Yankee and Wisin & Yandel.

This year, Bad Bunny leads the list of nominations with 11 nods, including artist of the year, song of the year and album of the year. The Puerto Rican star is followed by Becky G and Daddy Yankee, each with nine nominations; and with eight nods each are Grupo Frontera, Karol G, Rauw Alejandro, Romeo Santos and Rosalía. Carlos Vives and Pepe Aguilar will be recognized as 2023 Latin AMAs Legacy honorees.

This year’s nominations are based on streaming, sales, radio airplay, tours and even social media interactions data provided by Billboard and Luminate during the eligibility period (Feb. 12, 2022, through Feb. 4, 2023).

The eighth edition of the Latin AMAs is set to broadcast live on Univision, UniMás, and Galavisión from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Thursday, April 20 at 7:00 pm ET.

Bad Bunny Leads Pack of Latin American Music Awards Nominees with 11 Nods

Bad Bunny is the artist to beat at this year’s Latin American Music Awards.

The nominations for the 2023 Latin AMAs have been revealed, with the 29-year-old Puerto Rican rapper and singer leading the pack with 11 nominations, including artist of the year, song of the year and album of the year.

Bad BunnyBad Bunny is still riding high off his Billboard 200 chart-topping album Un Verano Sin Ti and hit single “Me porto bonito.”

Bad Bunny is followed by Becky G and Daddy Yankee, each with nine nominations; and with eight nods each are Grupo Frontera, Karol G, Rauw Alejandro, Romeo Santos and Rosalía, to name a few.

Additionally, Bizarrap, Blessd, Edén Muñoz, Grupo Frontera, Los Lara, Luis Figueroa, Luis R Conriquez, Quevedo, Santa Fe Klan and Yahritza y Su Esencia are nominated in the best new artist category.

TelevisaUnivision also revealed that Carlos Vives and Pepe Aguilar will be recognized as 2023 Latin AMAs Legacy honorees.

Co-hosted by Galilea Montijo and Julián Gil, the eighth edition of the Latin AMAs will take place on Thursday, April 20, at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, and for the first time — since its debut on October 8, 2015, on Telemundo — the ceremony will be broadcast live simultaneously on Univision, UNIMÁS and Galavisión (starting at 7:00 pm ET), after TelevisaUnivision acquired the rights from dick clark productions last September.

This year’s nominations are based on streaming, sales, radio airplay, tours and even social media interactions data provided by Billboard and Luminate during the eligibility period (February 12, 2022, through February 4, 2023).

Fans can vote for their favorite artists on Univision.com/LatinAMAs through Sunday, March 26.

The 36-year-old Puerto Rican reggaeton musician and Prince Royce have released a new video for Wisin’s single “Tu Libertad.”

The video features actors África Zavala and Julián Gil, who act out the love story behind a drag race that unfolds as Wisin and Royce perform the song in a warehouse.

“Tu Libertad” is Wisin’s third video to premiere in three consecutive weeks, following “Piquete” and “Corazón Acelerao“.

Ganem to Participate in Roselyn Sanchez’s PetSOS Charity Race

Edy Ganem is about to race for a cause…

The half-Mexican actress, who stars as Valentina Diaz on Lifetime’s Devious Maids, will compete alongside her co-stars on Saturday in a charity race to benefit the PetSOS organization, which is working to upgrade an animal shelter in Puerto Rico.

In a press conference this week, Devious Maids star Roselyn Sanchez said that Ganem, Judy Reyes and Rebecca Wisocky would take part in the invitation-only Amazing Paw Paw Race in the U.S. commonwealth.

Other artists slated to participate included singer-songwriter Jencarlos Canela, singer Ana Isabelle, television host Jaime Mayol, actor Julian Gil and his girlfriend, Colombian actress Viviana Serna.

Sanchez said the event was “really significant” because of its potential to help the Puerto Rican government improve the situation of stray dogs on the island.

She called on Gov. Alejandro Garcia Padilla’s administration to include the effort to rescue these animals among its other top priorities like combating crime and unemployment and improving public health.

Sanchez said the number of stray dogs in Puerto Rico has tripled over the past decade to 300,000 and she called on the island’s authorities to open more shelters to house these canines.

Referring to the race, she said the different team members must be “very athletic” because they will have to navigate an obstacle course spanning six different municipalities.

The funds raised for PetSOS also will be used to organize a large-scale spay and neuter drive on the island aimed at sterilizing hundreds of dogs and cats belonging to needy families.

Gil Returns to Telenovelas in “La usurpadora” Remake

Julián Gil returns is making his triumphant return to television…

The 42-year-old Argentine-born Puerto Rican actor is starring as the protagonist in the telenovela ¿Quién eres tú?, which is being recorded in Colombia and will be broadcast by UniMás, before airing on Telefutura.

“Of the characters that I have interpreted, it’s the one that most resembles me: he has two children, like me.  He’s the owner of a hotel business, and I was the owner of restaurants, and he’s very kind and human, because for him family and the fight for the love are very important,” says the the actor.

His character is Felipe Esquivel, a businessman who faces betrayal at the hands of his wife.  He’s the same character that Fernando Colunga portrayed in 1998 opposite Gabriela Spanic.  The telenovela is a remake of the highly popular Mexican telenovela La usurpadora.

“He’s a man of family, with two adolescent children, but with some very large personal conflicts.  It’s a story full of passion, but also with a lot of tension and intrigue.  It’s been many years since the Mexican version was presented and now we’re doing a version that separates itself a lot from it,” said Gil.

“I work six days a week.  I only have Sundays off, which I use to comply with the commitments that I have outside of the telenovela.  I barely have time for me, but it’s the price that I have paid to develop an international career.  Since I left Puerto Rico, I have moved to Miami, Venezuela, Ecuador, Mexico, Peru, Spain and now Colombia.  I live with the suitcases in hand, at times I feel that I can’t find the floor,” added Gil.

The soap opera tells the story of a young woman who assumes the identity of her twin sister, only to discover that living the life of someone more can be a grave error.

“To work with this great team has been marvelous.  I’ve returned to a very family project, with all the team in general we have created an incredible chemistry that can be seen on the screen,” indicated Gil.
