Clifton Collins Jr. to Star in Apple TV+‘s Limited Series “Lucky”

The 54-year-old Mexican American Emmy-nominated actor has joined the cast of Apple TV+‘s limited series Lucky created by Jonathan Tropper.

Based on Marissa Stapley’s bestselling novel and Reese’s Book Club pick of the same name, Lucky stars Anya Taylor-Joy as the eponymous heroine. She is a young woman who left behind the life of crime she was raised in years ago but must now embrace her darker, criminal side one final time in a desperate attempt to escape her past.

Collins will portray ‘Dutch.’

He joins a cast that includes Annette Bening, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Timothy Olyphant, Mo McCrae and Drew Starkey.

Lucky is produced by Hello Sunshine and Tropper Ink, and is created by Tropper under his overall deal with Apple TV+. Jonathan Van Tulleken will direct several episodes, including the pilot, and serve as executive producer.

Collins will next work in Eddington for A24 alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Emma StoneThe Last Frontier with Jason Clarke and the JonBenet Ramsey series for Paramount+ alongside Melissa McCarthy and Clive Owen.

He received an Emmy Award nomination in 2006 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or Movie for his portrayal of “Jack “Bump” Hill” in FX’s Thief.

On the big screen, Collins starred as “Jackson Silva” in Jockey (2021) from Greg Kwedar and Clint Bentley, a role for which he received the Best Actor award at Sundance.

His additional film credits include Capote, Nightmare Alley, After Yang, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Traffic and Pacific Rim.

Zoe Saldana to Star in the Netflix Action-Adventure Film “The Adam Project”

There’s a new Project in Zoe Saldana’s future…

The 42-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American actress and Guardians of the Galaxy star will star opposite Jennifer Garner and Ryan Reynolds in the Netflix action-adventure film The Adam Project.

Directed by Shawn Levy, Jonathan Tropper penned the script, with David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger producing for Skydance.

Plot details are being kept under wraps other than it having a time-travel element. The Adam Project marks one of a handful of films Netflix landed this year as studios like Paramount were figuring out their future slate in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. Netflix felt like the perfect home as Reynolds was in the midst of wrapping his second film, Red Noticewhile Levy has made Netflix his home following the massive success of his series Stranger Things.

The film will be the first project for Reynolds’ The Group Effort Initiative, a self-financed diversity and inclusion program that aims to give people of color a chance to work and learn on the actor’s productions. The Group Effort Initiative is a joint effort between Maximum Effort and B for Effort.

Saldana is known for starring roles in two of three biggest blockbusters in movie history — Avatar and Avengers: Endgame. She next will be seen reprising her role of Neytiri in Avatar 2, 3 and 4. Saldana also will star in and executive produce the limited drama series From Scratch for Netflix.

Cinemax to Premiere Season 2 of Ruivivar’s “Banshee” in January

It’s official! Anthony Ruivivar is headed back to television early next year…

Cinemax has scheduled the start of the 10-episode second season of the pay cable network’s drama Bashee, which stars the 42-year-old part-Spanish American actor, for Friday, January 10 at 10:00 pm.

The series stars Antony Starr (Rush) as Lucas Hood, an ex-con and master thief who assumes the identity of the sheriff of Banshee, PA, where he continues his criminal activities, even as he’s being hunted by the shadowy gangsters he betrayed years earlier.

Banshee was renewed just three weeks into its freshman season. Its Season 1 finale drew 455,000 viewers during its initial airing and 655,000 during repeats – the largest audience ever for a Cinemax original series finale.

Along with Ruivivar and Starr, the list of cast regulars includes Ivana Milicevic, Ulrich Thomsen, Frankie Faison, Rus Blackwell and Ryann Shane, Ben Cross.

The series, which earneda Special Visual Effects Emmy Award, is executive produced by Alan Ball, Peter Macdissi, Jonathan Tropper, David Schickler and Greg Yaitanes.

Ruivivar is best known for his portrayal of FDNY paramedic Carlos Nieto on NBC’s Third Watch, as well as other law enforcement roles in different TV series.
