Lopez’s powerful ballad was accompanied by a full orchestra and was followed with a standing ovation from the audience, which included her proud ex-husband, Marc Anthony, who is producing her forthcoming album.

Prior to JLo‘s performance, the likes of Sofía Vergara, Lin-Manuel Miranda and J Balvin appeared in a star-studded video to congratulate the singer on her Star Award.

“I love you so much. I feel blessed to be part of this creative world and to be able to represent our Latin community. I feel at home,” said Lopez of her award. “I am humbled to be here in your presence and accept this award.”

Lopez was also named Social Artist of the Year at the awards show.

Lopez to Release Latin-Flavored Single in the Near Future

Jennifer Lopez is thisclose to dropping a new (Latin) beat…

The 46-year-old Puerto Rican singer, actress and American Idol judge will release a Latin-tinged track in a few days, according to NYC’s Z100 program director Mark Medina.

Medina shared the news in a recent Twitter exchange with a JLo fan who wondered what her new song would sound like.

“Fun, hi energy, Latin flair, global, timely on @Z100NewYork soon- probably days,” he wrote.

Lopez’s latest album “A.K.A.” arrived last year. In the past few months, she’s been busy with her acting career and her judging stint on American Idol, in addition to making contributions to the Home soundtrack, Prince Royce’s “Back It Up” and Jason Derulo‘s Everything Is 4 LP.

In late May, she was rumored to have started working on a new project after a fan noticed that she and Missy Elliott followed each other on Twitter. A few days later, the two superstars fueled the collaboration report when they were pictured together.

So far, there’s still no official word on what Lopez is actually cooking up, but she’s currently preparing herself for her Las Vegas residency, which starts in January 2016 at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.

Lopez Releases a Glamorous & Intergalatic Video for “Feel the Light”

Forget “Jenny from the Block”… Jennifer Lopez is an intergalactic goddess who could be called “Jenny from the Milky Way.”

Following her show-stopping performance on American Idol, the 45-year-old Puerto Rican singer/actress has released the official music video for her new ballad “Feel the Light,” which is featured in the animated film Home.

Jennifer Lopez Feel the Light Video

Lopez, who voices the character Lucy in the Dreamworks animated adventure film, is seen flying through space while bedazzled with sparkling gems (a la “Waiting for Tonight” in the intergalactic-themed clip.

She also wears a white catsuit with sheer-paneling as she stands on what appears to be a spaceship against the backdrop of far-off galaxies.

In another part of the video JLo dances with some of the animated aliens from the film in a white party dress and skyscraper heels, showing them how to get their dance groove on.

Home will be released later this month, and also features the voices of Jim Parsons, Rihanna and Steve Martin.

It centers around Oh (Parsons), an alien on the run from his own people who lands on Earth and befriends Tip (Rihanna), helping her reunite with her mother Lucy (Lopez). The duo embark on an adventure together where Oh comes to understand that being different and making mistakes is all part of being human.

‘It’s the first movie I’ve been in that my kids had heard about before I told them,’ Lopez told Access Hollywood earlier this week.

Lopez noted that it was her first time releasing a ballad as a single.

“It’s very weird for me not to move,” she laughed.

Lopez Gives Out of This World Performance of “Feel the Light” on “American Idol”

There’s no denying Jennifer Lopez is a Latin luminary… But during this week’s episode of American Idol, la Lopez lit up the screen in a whole new way.

The 45-year-old Puerto Rican singer/actress and American Idol judge took the stage to perform “Feel the Light,” her new single from the soundtrack to the animated movie Home. And Lopez didn’t disappoint, stealing the show with an epic performance and show-stopping gown.

The “Booty” singer first appeared on stage in a large white dress, which consisted of fabric, 20 feet in diameter. As Lopez’s performance continues, the dress was used to project scenes from the movie, as well as some out of this world special effects.

As she stood there and belted out the song, everyone’s eyes were transfixed on the dress. Even JLo’s costume designer, Mariel Haenn, felt like it was something to remember.

“A lot of things made this dress special, particularly it’s an idea that we’ve had for a very long time that we were just waiting for the right time to execute it. The white dress on it’s own was an idea that Jennifer had for a performance, but then when we were working on the creatives for the Home music video, we talked about using the dress as a canvas to project stuff onto it, and incorporate the movie into her dress, which is something I’ve never seen before. It felt really special,” she told HollywoodLife.com.

“[Projection] is something that Jennifer has always wanted to do, and when she was working on this song and we were working on the creatives for the video, she thought that this was the perfect place for it all to happen,” she added.

Pitbull Kicks Off a Night of Latin Performances at the Billboard Music Awards

This year’s Billboard Music Awards had a decidedly Latino feel… Not only did Jennifer Lopez become the first Hispanic artist (and woman) to win the coveted Icon Award, but the show featured several high-octane performances from Latino musicians, including Pitbull.

Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez & Claudia Leitte

The 33-year-old Cuban-American rap superstar, joined by la Lopez and Brazilian singer Claudia Leitte, kicked off the night with an energetic performance of their new single ‘We Are One (Ole Ola),” the official 2014 FIFA World Cup anthem.

Pitbull kicked off the perforamnce with several scantily clad dancers backing him up, then kicked it over to Lopez, whose gold-fringed outfit sparkled in the lights. Leitte finished out the song.

No surprise, the performance featured strong soccer imagery as this year’s World Cup is right around the corner.

Pitbull, Lopez and Leitte will perform the song at the World Cup opening ceremony in Sao Paulo.

But Pitbull wasn’t the only one to perform a soccer-themed song…

Ricky Martin brought a little life to the BBMAs by performing “Vida,” one of the 2014 FIFA World Cup theme songs.

The upbeat track was written by fellow Puerto Rican singer Elijah King, as part of Sony’s “Supersong” 2014 World Cup song contest.

Looking stylish in all black amongst his team of white-clad dancers, Martin tore through the soccer-themed banger, shouting out its stadium-worthy cries of ole! In between, he showed off some dance moves of his own, leaving little doubt that he’s still livin’ la vida loca.

This isn’t the first time Martin has performed a track for the World Cup. His song for the 1998 competition, “La Copa de La Vida” (The Cup of Life),” propelled him into the global spotlight, taking off after he performed it on the Grammys. It charted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart, and reached No. 45 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Jennifer Lopez, meantime, proved why she’s a living icon…

The “I Luh Ya Papi” singer returned to the BBMA stage once again, this time to debut her new single “First Love,” the latest track from her upcoming album A.K.A.

JLo not only looked haute in a one-shoulder, sparkly black jumpsuit, but she belted out the tune with gusto and showed the world just how well she can dance.

Last but certainly not least, Shakira performed her latest single “Empire.”

The Colombian singer and The Voice coach lit up the Billboard Music Awards stage with a sizzling rendition of the latest single from her recently released self-titled album.

Dressed in a sheer, sparkling dress and thigh high black boots, Shakira stalked the stage complete with a cathedral-like stage set and flames blasting on stage behind her.

By song’s end she had walked into the audience chanting the song’s luminescent refrain “and the stars made love to the universe,” pausing before a blast of steam with the mic stand held high above her head.

Lopez Reveals Her Next Studio Album’s Title and Its Revealing Artwork

To quote the lyrics to her latest single, Jennifer Lopez’s new album art will have men “all loving that JLo, true.

The 44-year-old Puerto Rican singer/actress and American Idol judge has shared her eighth studio album’s title and its revealing artwork to her 27.4 million Twitter followers.

Lopez’s new album will be called A.K.A., and the artwork is sizzling.

The A.K.A. cover art will most definitely set tongues wagging with its image of la Lopez in a red vinyl skirt and barely there vest.

J.Lo. A.K.A Artwork

The “I Luh Ya Papi” singer’s tweet also carries the simple message: “coming soon.” The album is expected to be released on June 17.

Lopez recently previewed six songs at an intimate brunch in Malibu.

“If you listen to my albums, they were always about love. I’ve always sung about love. It was always love in a certain way, a fairy-tale type of way. I was hoping, praying and wishing for that,” JLo told guests.

One of those songs is the second single, “First Love,” which the pop star discusses in a podcast with Billboard.

She started recording A.K.A. in February 2013, after finishing her first world tour and divorcing singer-songwriter, Marc Anthony.

The likes of Max Martin and Diplo lend their production skills to the set, while Robin Thicke, Big Sean and Wiz Khalifa are among the big-name collaborators

Lopez’s NuvoTV Reportedly Outbids Sean “Puffy” Combs for Fuse TV

Sean “Puffy” Combs has blown a fuse with his ex Jennifer Lopez.

The 44-year-old Puerto Rican singer/actress and American Idol judge has beat out her ex-boyfriend Sean “Puffy” Combs in the quest to acquire cable music channel Fuse TV, according to sources close to the situation.

Jennifer Lopez

NuvoTV, the English-language cable channel where Lopez serves as a minority owner and the network’s chief creative offer, has reached an agreement with Fuse owner, the Madison Square Garden Company.

“Things are in that 99.9 percentile,” says a source familiar with the negotiations, which began when NuvoTV reportedly offered cash and equity valued at more than $200 million.

“It’s getting done,” says another source familiar with the situation.

The first source declined to discuss where NuvoTV and Lopez are getting their financing, or whether they sweetened their deal since Combs, backed by billionaire supermarket magnate Ron Burkle, had reportedly made a similar $200 million offer.

A spokeswoman for Combs referred Billboard to Madison Square Garden Company spokeswoman Kimberly Kerns, who responds: “As we have stated, we are exploring strategic alternatives for Fuse and will have no further comment.”

The assumption in the industry that Lopez and Combs, who owns the fledgling Revolt TV cable channel in partnership with Comcast, were interested in acquiring Fuse to convert the struggling network to their respective programming formats and gain access to Fuse’s 74 million cable households. (NuvoTV and Revolt reportedly reach in the neighborhood of 34 million households.)

But in an interview that took place on Wednesday, before the deal was reached, Lopez’s manager Benny Medina, in a conversation about JLo’s entrepreneurial branding strategy, said that if NuvoTV emerged the victor, there were no immediate plans to change Fuse’s format. “We do look at these channels as two different companies with two different identities, audiences and goals,” Medina said. “And these shall remain intact.”

The plan to maintain Fuse’s format for the time being may have to do with something called a “definition of service” clause that cable operators can include in their contracts with the services they carry.

According to one cable television-industry source, the clause enables operators to drop a network or decrease the fees paid for carriage if the network’s ownership or programming format changes. This could prove to be a synergistic stumbling block given that Fuse’s music-video heavy programming does not bear much resemblance to NuvoTV’s largely non-musical slate of programs, which include reruns of Dexter and the new boxing reality show Knockout.

Asked if Lopez and Combs’ competing bids for Fuse was a coincidence or a residual effect of their two-year affair that began in 1999 — Combs once likened his tumultuous relationship with Lopez to Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner’s romance — Medina replied, “I don’t think it’s a coincidence,” but added that it had nothing to do with their past history.

“In many ways, Jennifer and Sean are cut from the same cloth,” Medina said. They’re both passionate artists of the same generation who think on a grand and global scale. They were two superstars seeking to build their brand, who happened to be Jennifer and Puffy.” (They’re also both 44 years old.)

He says that Lopez’s transition from the recording studio to the boardroom of NuvoTV “is a conscious move” and part of a larger strategy to build businesses around her that can sustain a lot of what she does as an entertainer and actor.” In addition to her music and acting career, Lopez sells her Jennifer Lopez fashion line through the Kohl’s department store chain and collaborates with Coty on a number of fragrances.

“We’re in an age and time now where artists have to be a lot more involved, invested and creative in marketing and promoting themselves, whether its fashion brands and fragrances that speak to who they are — or a cable TV network. It’s about building a business around the art.”

Despite Lopez’s evolution as an entrepreneur, Medina says her recording career has not taken a backseat. “She is working on her 10th album,” he says. “Her first love is music.”
