Jhené Aiko Releases Emotive New Track “Triggered”

Jhené Aiko is triggered…

The 31-year-old part-Spanish and part-Dominican American singer has released her first musical offering of 2019 in the form of the emotive “Triggered” freestyle.

A dark accompanying visual sees Aiko staring into the abyss while pouring her soul out around some rocky terrain.

Aiko explained what kind of headspace she was in that led to the song’s creation on Twitterearlier this week.

“One night I was so deep in my feelings, I was afraid of what I might do. I didn’t want to revert to the same bad habits that have set me back time and time again,” she wrote. “I realized that instead of running away from my emotions… I needed to sit with them, express myself and say whatever came to mind. It was healing to say the least… and now I feel a bit more free.”

Fans immedieately started to speculate that she was addressing her contentious breakup with ex-boyfriend Big Sean, especially since she specifically used the word “trigger” regarding Sean Don when sending him love under one of his IG posts last month.

“You are so special. To me. To the world. While we’re both still on this planet I just want to say… I love you beyond measure. Even tho I get big mad and u trigger the fuck out of me. U make me feel. And I appreciate that,” Aiko stated. “Because I thought I was dead inside. My ego has no say when it comes to you. And my heart has been broken a thousand times just to expand. It always finds room for you.”

Jhene Aiko Releases Her Emotional Short Film “Trip”

Jhene Aiko is trippin’ out…

After teasing fans with clips of her upcoming short film Trip, the 29-year-old part-Spanish/part-Dominican American singer-songwriter has finally released the 23-minute film ahead of her long-awaited album of the same name.

Jhene Aiko

In the emotional short film, written by the singer and Girl’s Trip writer, Tracy Oliver, Aiko stars as Penny, a poet who heads to a quiet, secluded area by a beach to write. There, she meets a stranger named Dante, who persuades the poet to take a trip with him. Although she’s still mourning the loss of her brother, she agrees to join the stranger on his journey and their romance quickly blossoms.

Throughout their journey, Penny continues to struggle with her brother’s death saying, “I am looking for a brother’s love in every single man but you’ll never see me like my brother did, you’ll never need me like my brother did. There’s a black hole in my soul. It’s beginning to show through my dilated pupils behind lids half-closed. I thought that I would be fine by now, but suffering doesn’t die, it grows.”

She briefly turns to drugs to help her cope and pushes away Dante in the process. As she makes her way back home, Penny’s brother is waiting in her bedroom and encourages his sister to let him go in order for her to truly heal.

The #ImUnloading initiative encourages people to scrutinize their 401K retirement savings plan to ensure their funds aren’t invested in the firearms industry. It’s the work of the Campaign to Unload and States United to Prevent Gun Violence, two not-for-profit groups committed to reducing gun violence in America.

“I’ve gone to juvenile detention centers and met dozens of young kids, babies really, who have been affected by gun violence,” says Blacc in the video.

“How I’ve been affected by gun violence over the years is through deaths of friends and family members and associates,” comments Snoop Dogg in a promotional video for the project. Aiko adds that she was held at gunpoint as a 5-year-old in a home invasion.

Organizers of the project have set up a website at unloadyour401k.com where users can check if their retirement funds may be invested in gunmakers, and make a move toward a “guns-free 401k.”
