Chencho Corleone Signs Global Record Deal with Sony Music Latin

The 44-year-old Puerto Rican singer, songwriter and record producer has launched a “new musical phase” by signing a global record deal with Sony Music Latin, the company tells Billboard.  

Chencho Corleone,The agreement comes on the heels of Chencho’s upcoming debut album as a solo artist; he was previously one-half of the duo Plan B, who rose to fame in the early 2000s.

“I’m very happy with what we’ve been creating and what’s coming up,” said the Puerto Rican hitmaker in a statement. “I’m sure my fans will enjoy this new musical phase, adding another milestone in my career.”

Corleone is set to release the first single from the set, “Un Cigarrillo,” on Thursday (May 4) along with a music video directed by Jessy Terrero. “I had the opportunity to sit down with production and the team to create a visual concept that projects and marks the new solo path at the beginning,” Chencho added in his statement.

The deal comes amid a career spike for Corleone. Last year, he scored his first No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot Latin Songs chart thanks to “Me Porto Bonito” with Bad Bunny, which ruled the tally for 20 weeks. He also notched his first No. 1 on Billboard‘s Latin Airplay chart with his feature on Rauw Alejandro‘s “Desesperados.”

About the signing, Sony Music U.S. Latin president Alex Gallardo, added, “We’re extremely happy to welcome Chencho Corleone to the Sony Music family. Chencho has proved to be one of the leaders in his genre with his distinctive style and powerhouse collaborations, reaffirming his position worldwide. YouTube Originals has announced plans to launch a new docuseries following the 29-year-old Puerto Rican rapper and singer’s road to success will premiere this week.

Anuel AATitled 30 Days With: Anuel, after the YouTube Originals franchise, the four-part documentary series, helmed by director Jessy Terrero, captures the Latin trap artist’s beginnings in the music industry and the story behind his arrest in Puerto Rico.

According to an official statement, “The project was filmed over 30 days during the final days of Anuel’s probation period, and his first week of freedom.”

On April 2, 2016, Anuel (real name Emmanuel Gazmey Santiago) was arrested on gun possession charges and denied bail, despite having a clean record. He was sentenced to 30 months, which he served in full, spending time in four different prisons in Puerto Rico, Atlanta, and Miami, with a brief stint at a halfway house. On July 17, 2018, he finally walked out a free man, just hours after releasing his debut album, Real Hasta La Muerte (on Glad Empire and distributed by The Orchard).

An Endemol Shine Boomdog production, the docuseries is executive produced by Alejandro Rincón, Javier Pérez Teuffer, Flavio Morales, and Miguel Batz, with Nicole Emanuele overseeing the Anuel miniseries for YouTube Originals.

30 Days With: Anuel premieres at 12:00 pm PT on Wednesday, December 29, on Anuel’s official YouTube channel, with a new episode premiering every week.

Maluma Releases Bilingual “Hawái” Remix, Featuring The Weeknd

The 26-year-old Colombian singer/songwriter has joined voices with the Canadian singer on a remix of Maluma’s chart-topping single “Hawái.”

On Wednesday, Maluma and The Weeknd surprised fans by announcing the collaboration, sharing a photo together across social media.

Less than 24 hours later, the bilingual “Hawái” remix and accompanying video officially dropped via Sony Music Latin/RCA Records.

Marking their first-ever collaboration, The Weeknd kicks off the remix by singing in English. “So now he’s your heaven? You’re lying to yourself and him to make me jealous / You put on such an act when you’re sleeping together / All this cause I said I don’t want marriage,” he croons before flaunting the infectious chorus in Spanish. This also marks the first time the Canadian singer has sung in Spanish.

“I have always admired The Weeknd so it feels nothing short of a dream come true to have him collab on ‘Hawái’ remix,” Maluma said in a press statement. “He brought another flow to it and sang in both Spanish and English which is impressive.”

Co-written by Maluma alongside Keityn, Edgar Barrera, and Bull Nene and produced by Rude Boy, the romantic urban bop, originally released in July, is about a relationship that couldn’t work out and one of the exes “moved on” but it’s all an act.

The original music video, filmed in Miami by Jessy Terrero of Cinema Giants, shows Maluma arguing with his girlfriend, breaking up, a confrontation at her wedding with another man, and a surprising plot twist. The remix video, also at the helm of Terrero, was filmed in Los Angeles and features both artists.

“Hawái” is currently in its ninth week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Latin Songs chart. The song earned Maluma just his second No. 1 on the list among his 40 chart entries.

The Natti Natasha-Executive-Produced YouTube Originals’ Series “Bravas” Launching This Week

The 33-year-old Dominican singer and songwriter is launching a new stage in her career as an executive producer for YouTube Originals’ upcoming series Bravas.

The eight-episode series, produced by Cinema Giants and directed and executive produced by Jessy Terrero, tells the story of three friends and aspiring artists –Mila (Audri Nix), Roja (Nohemy) and Ashley (Amanda Antonella) — who form a musical group called La Milagrosa and are on a mission to find their place in the world.

“Through music, they want to talk about the issues that are happening in their lives,” Natasha tells Billboard. “They are using their voices to vent as women. We’re going to see the things that girls and women go through in order to reach their goals, such as people not believing in you and the sacrifices.”

Bravas, which is written and produced by Kisha Burgos, is also a celebration of Latin music and culture.

“I immediately said ‘yes,’” Natasha said of her role as executive producer. “This is my first time ever and I’m very happy. I’m always going to try to serve as a platform and be a voice for all girls and women.”

The series, which began developing before the global pandemic, also counts the participation of artists like WisinJon ZDe La Ghetto and more. “They’re all going to be acting. It’s going to be interesting to see them in this light,” Natasha says.

Bravas will premiere at 6:00 pm ET on Wednesday on Natti Natasha’s YouTube channel.

Maluma Releases Music Video for New Single “Hawái”

The 26-year-old Colombian/songwriter singer has released his new single “Hawái,” along with the track’s drama-filled music video.

The song finds Maluma heartbroken and plotting his next move to get his lady back — even if that means crashing her wedding.

Produced by Rude Boyz, the melodious pop song was penned by Maluma, KeitynEdgar Barrera and Bulle Nene with lyrics set in present day that tell the story of a toxic relationship and the aftermath of a breakup in the Instagram era. 

“Stop lying to yourself, the photo you put up with him saying he was your everything, I know you only posted it to make me jealous,” Maluma sings.

Maluma wrote the storyline for music video, which was shot in Miami. The action-packed video, directed by Jessy Terrero of Cinema Giants, opens with a scene of Maluma arguing with his girlfriend. After the huge blow up, they go their separate ways. On her wedding day to another man, he crashes the ceremony hoping she’ll take him back. And, the video ends with a plot twist.

“Hawái” follows Maluma’s chart-topping “ADMV” single which scored him his 16th No. 1 on Billboard’Latin Airplay chart. “ADMV” was also penned by Maluma and Barrera along with Vicente Barcoand Miky La Sensa.

The tracks drop ahead of Maluma’s forthcoming album, slated to be released later this year, according to Maluma.

In an interview with Apple Music, he said, “I didn’t know that I was about to release an album this year because all of these things are happening.”

Adding, “my first album [this year] is about to come. I had this chance to know myself again in this crazy sh– that is going on. So, I decided to make the music that I just wanted to do. “Hawái” for sure is the first single of my new album.”

The artists filmed the video the day Aoki shared snaps, which show them enjoying the nice weather of the last days of summer in Miami.

Nicky Jam’s Scripted Bio-Series “Nicky Jam: El Ganador” Headed to Netflix

The 36-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American singer-songwriter will star in Nicky Jam: El Ganador, an authorized bio-series based on the life and career of the Latin music superstar.

The scripted drama, from Endemol Shine Boomdog, will debut on Netflix everywhere except the U.S., where it will air first on Telemundo.

Nicky Jam: El Ganador began production in Medellin, Colombia this week. Starring the Reggaeton sensation himself, the 13-episode bio-series will tell the life story of award-winning Nicky Jam, a singer-songwriter, who has become a worldwide music phenomenon. The bio-series documents his humble and troubled start in Boston, to his downfall on the streets, to becoming the king of one of the most popular musical genres.

Acclaimed film and music video director Jessy Terrero helms the project. In the U.S., the show will be made available on Netflix after premiering on Telemundo.

Telemundo to Air Nicky Jam Biopic “El Ganador”

Telemundo will premiere a biopic series titled El Ganador about the 35-year-old Puerto Rican and Dominican American singer, the chart-topping artist revealed on the network’s Un Nuevo Dia morning show.

“They will know my whole story, everything that happened to me, also my childhood,” he said.

The series, with no release date yet, will begin filming this summer. It will be produced by Nicky Jam with his manager Juan Diego Medina and directed by Jessy Terrero.

El Ganador” is also the first song from his comeback studio album Fenix, which briefly tells his life story through its lyric and a music video released last month.

“The song and video are just a fragment of the story. In the series, I detail my life, what happened to my mom, my dad and all my suffering.”

The “El perdón” singer hopes to help and inspire younger kids and from the series learn that “they too can be down and rise.”

But Nicky Jam’s isn’t the only biopic being released by Telemundo…

The network also announced Mexican singer/songwriter José José‘s series titled Nace un Ídolo.

José José’s story embodies a man’s journey to “reach the status of an idol — including fame and fortune — and the high price he had to pay to achieve his dreams.”

The series, produced by Telemundo Studios, highlights the passion and excitement that a superstar artist feels for his craft and the adoration of his fans. It also displays the frailty of the man coping with his addiction and its damaging effects such as almost losing his family, his voice and his life.

Reik Releases Reggaetón/Urban Version of “Qué gano olvidándote,” feat. Zion & Lennox

The Mexican band has released a new reggaetón/urban version of “Qué gano olvidándote,” featuring Zion & Lennox.

The uptempo beat in the urban song turns the pop tune into a danceable reggaetón hit.

“Qué gano olvidándote” ft. the reggaetón duo is now available on all digital platforms.

The Mexican trio also debuted the music video on Friday, filmed in Miami and directed by Mike Ho, Jessy Terrero and Santiago Salviche.

Reik’s first foray into the urban genre was their remixed single “Ya me enteré,” featuring Nicky Jam.

“We felt that we needed to make things a bit more fun, different and interesting,” Reik’s frontman Jesús Alberto Navarro Rosas told Billboard in a previous interview. The collaboration peaked at No. 3 on Billboard’s Latin Airplay chart.

Up next, Reik will perform at the Latin Grammys on November 17 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The pop trio’s Des/Amor is up for a Latin Grammy under the category best contemporary pop album.

Ricky Martin & Maluma Release Official Video for “Vente Pa’Ca”

The 44-year-old Puerto Rican singer and the 22-year-old Colombian reggaeton singer have released the official music video for the collaborative single “Vente Pa’Ca.”

After sharing selfies together on social media, the Latin music superstars host an epic beach party at the SLS Hotel in Miami Beach where they party it up Miami-style.

The clip was directed by Jessy Terrero.

The party track with a reggaeton beat was originally titled “Some Kind of Dream” in English and was written in Scandinavia by Anne Judith Stokke WikRonny Vidar SvendsenNermin Harambasic, Justin Stein, Lars “Chief One” Pedersen and Carl Ryden.

For the Spanish-language track, Mau Y Ricky Montaner penned the lyrics. Martin also contributed in the writing.

While the video makes its debut now, “Vente Pa’Ca” will be available on all digital platforms as of Friday.
