“Walker: Independence” Star Justin Johnson Cortez to Guest Star on the CW’s “Walker”

Justin Johnson Cortez is crossing over…

The Latino-Indigenous actor, a series regular on the CW period drama Walker: Independence, is crossing over into the future as a guest star on Walker.

Justin Johnson CortezHe’ll play a potentially recurring new role, which could eventually have ties to Calian, the Indigenous character he plays on Walker: Independence.

Cortez will appear on the contemporary Walker as Detective Sonny Alcala, a shrewd homicide detective who got his start working closely with Cordell Walker (Jared Padalecki) and Captain James (Coby Bell) on a case years ago. The detective initially calls Walker as a courtesy to let him know of a death relating to a case, but something doesn’t quite add up.

The Walker origin series Walker Independence is set in the 1800s and follows Abigail Walker, the ancestor of Padalecki’s Cordell Walker. Cortez plays Calian, a member of an Indigenous scouting party outside Independence, Texas. In the midseason finale, Calian left Independence after he was put on trial for the murder of one of the town’s founding fathers, Francis Reyes.

Padalecki, who is an executive producer on Walker Independence, recently made a cameo of his own on the prequel series. In the Season 3 episode, Padelecki’s unnamed character has a scene with Walker alum Matt Barr’s Hoyt Rawlins. The pair meet while trying to rob a train. They exchange a joke and consider partnering up, though that never comes to fruition. Instead, the two thieves draw their guns on each other. Hoyt comes out victorious.

Cortez’s episode airdate is still to be determined.

Alexis Bledel’s Netflix Mini-Series “Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life” Headed ‘Home’ to The CW

It’s an extra special homecoming for Alexis Bledel

The Gilmore Girls, starring the 39-year-old half-Argentinian American actress, is heading back to The CW after 20 years.

Alexis Bledel, Gilmore Girls, Lauren Graham

The network will air the four-part mini-series, which was ordered by Netflix and aired in 2016, as an event series starting on Monday November 23 and running through the week. It’ll air the series on its linear network and will also stream for free on its ad-supported app and online for 30 days.

The announcement comes on the 20th anniversary of the show’s launch on The WB.

The deal terms of the acquisition were worked out between Warner Bros., which produced the show in association with Dolly Parker Drank Here Productions, and Netflix, allowing The CW to have a window, according to Deadline.

It’s unusual for a Netflix original to be acquired by a linear network but The CW Chairman and CEO Mark Pedowitz was known to have wanted the Gilmore Girls sequel and has admitted that it was tough to have been outspent by the streamer. It also helps fill The CW’s schedule given that the network will not begin its regular 2020/21 primetime season until January.

Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life follows Bledel’s Rory, who has experienced some success in her journalism career, and Lauren Graham’s Lorelai, who still runs the Dragonfly Inn.

As Rory works through job-related struggles and Lorelai deals with some unresolved issues of her own, Emily Gilmore, played by Kelly Bishop, has been handling the loss of her husband, Richard. Emily is at a major crossroads in her life, recently widowed and trying to figure out what to do next. Richard’s death forces Emily and Lorelai to finally re-examine their own fraught relationship, and what the future holds for this mother and daughter.

Also returning were Rory’s best friend Lane Kim, played by Keiko Agena, who still plays in a band with her husband Zack, played by Todd Lowe, and is the mother of twin boys.  High school frenemy-turned-college roommate-turned-close friend Paris Geller, played by Liza Weil, also returns, and Rory’s most memorable ex-boyfriends – Logan (Matt Czuchry), Jess (Milo Ventimiglia) and Dean (Jared Padalecki) – also surface throughout the chapters.

The Dragonfly Inn’s resident head chef and co-owner, Sookie St. James, played by Melissa McCarthy, is also back along with the snooty-but-oh-so-lovable concierge Michel (Yanic Truesdale).

It was directed, written and executive produced by series creators Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino. The original ran for seven seasons on The WB and The CW with the sequel launching on Netflix in November 2016. Each episode of the sequel, which were between 88 and 102 minutes, follows the characters through one of the four seasons.

Lindsey Morgan to Star in The CW’s “Walker, Texas Ranger” Reimagining “Walker”

Lindsey Morgan has found a new home on the range(r).

The 29-year-old half-Mexican American actress has been cast as the female lead opposite Jared Padalecki in the CW’s Walker, a reimagining of CBS’ 1990s action/crime series Walker, Texas Ranger

Lindsey Morgan

Like the original series, created by Albert S. Ruddyand Leslie Greif, the reboot will explore morality, family, and rediscovering our lost common ground.

Written and executive produced by Anna Fricke, it centers on Cordell Walker (Padalecki), a widower and father of two with his own moral code, who returns home to Austin after being undercover for two years, only to discover there’s harder work to be done at home. He’ll attempt to reconnect with his children, navigate clashes with his conservative family, and find unexpected common ground with his new partner Micki (Morgan), one of the first women in Texas Rangers’ history, while growing increasingly suspicious about the circumstances surrounding his wife’s death.

Morgan’s Micki was born and raised in San Antonio. Focused and perceptive, her family has been in Texas since before it was Texas. She’s been in the Army and on the police force and knows first-hand what it’s like to be singled out and discriminated against because of her gender.

Morgan currently portrays Raven Reyes on the CW’s The 100, which is wrapping up its seventh and final season. She’s also starred on General Hospital.
