Jake Cannavale Starring in the Romantic Comedy “F*ck Valentine’s Day”

Jake Cannavale is bringing the comedy for Valentine’s Day.

The 29-year-old part-Cuban American actor has joined the cast of the romantic comedy F*ck Valentines Day, which is filming in Malta.

They join Marisa Tomei and Virginia Gardner in the ensemble cast.

From writer Steve Bencich and director Mark Gantt, the film follows Gina (Gardner), born on the most celebrated day of love, Valentine’s Day, which she detests immensely. She is determined to stop her boyfriend from popping the question on a birthday getaway in Greece, home of her vivacious mother (Tomei). Enlisting fellow vacationers, the handsome Johnny Giovinazzo and his brassy sister Mickey, Gina hopes to delay the proposal, leading Gina to discover that she just might be with the wrong guy.

Producers are Nancy Leopardi of Indy Entertainment, John Ierardi and Bo Youngblood of Showdown Productions and Michael Cassutt. 

Danielle Gasher serves as executive producer along with Phil Shaltz, Natalie Marciano, Batia Parnass and casting directors Arlie Day and Mike Page.

Cannavale, the son of Bobby Cannavale, previously starred in Eat Brains Love and Inside Man.

Ariana DeBose to Star Opposite Nicole Kidman in “Scarpetta”

Ariana DeBose has a new license to thrill…

The 33-year-old half-Puerto Rican Oscar-winning actress, singer and dancer has been cast as a series regular on Scarpetta, starring and executive produced by Nicole Kidman.

Ariana DeBose,Prime Video has officially ordered two seasons of the series, which is based on Patricia Cornwell’s best-selling Kay Scarpetta book series.

In addition DeBose, the mystery thriller has also added Emmy winner Bobby Cannavale (Ezra), Emmy nominee Simon Baker (Breath), Rosy McEwen and Jake Cannavale (The Offer).

Scarpetta follows Kay Scarpetta (Kidman), Chief Medical Examiner, as she returns to Virginia and resumes her former position with complex relationships, both personal and professional – including her sister Dorothy (Curtis), with plenty of grudges and secrets to uncover.

DeBose will play Lucy Farinelli-Watson, Dorothy’s daughter; Bobby Cannavale will play former detective Pete Marino; Baker joins as FBI profiler Benton Wesley; McEwen joins as Past Kay Scarpetta and Jake Cannavale will play Past Pete Marino.

“I’m beyond excited that this is finally happening. This will be great fun for all, and I’m grateful for the immense talent that the show is drawing. I’ve always been a huge fan of Jamie Lee Curtis and Nicole Kidman. Their wanting to do this is humbling and simply awesome. Working with the brilliant Liz Sarnoff is amazing. Blumhouse and Prime Video are a dream. This has been worth waiting for, and I’m so looking forward to the show,” Cornwell shared.

Liz Sarnoff will write, executive produce, and showrun. David Gordon Green (Halloween, Stronger) is set to direct the first two episodes.

Kidman will executive produce for Blossom Films, and Curtis will executive produce for Comet Pictures.

Jake Cannavale to Star in Found-Footage Horror-Comedy “Mean Spirited”

The 26-year-old part-Cuban American actor/musician will star in Mean Spirited, the solo directorial debut from Jeff Ryan.

Cannavale will star alongside Michelle Veintimilla, Neville Archambault, Will Madden, Daniel Rashid, Maria DeCotis and Charlie Pollock in the found-footage horror-comedy.

The film, which is co-written by Ryan and Joe Adams, is set to begin shooting this fall in the Pocono Mountains.

Madden will star as Andy, an up-and-coming vlogger whose attempts to reconnect with his estranged friend Bryce (Ryan) fall apart while a demonic presence begins tormenting the vacationing group.

The project hails from First-Names Films.

Cannavale’s previous credits include Nurse Jackie and The Mandalorian.

 

Perez Joins the Cast of Larry David’s Broadway Play “Fish in the Dark”

Rosie Perez is gone fishin’…

The 49-year-old Puerto Rican Oscar-nominated actress has joined the cast of Fish in the Dark, the new play written by and starring Larry David.

The comedy, which has lined up its Broadway dates and theater, revolves around a death in the family.

In addition to Perez, the ensemble cast will include Jayne Houdyshell and Jonny Orsini.

Nurse Jackie alum Jake Cannavale, Bobby Cannavale’s son, and veteran character actor Jerry Adler will also appear alongside David.

Fish in the Dark will be directed by Anna D. Shapiro.

Perez’s most recent Broadway outing was the 2007 production of Terrence McNally’s The Ritz.

Produced by Scott Rudin, Fish in the Dark swims into the Cort Theater for a run that begins previews February 2, prior to a March 5 opening. The Cort’s current occupant — This Is Our Youth starring Michael Cera, Kieran Culkin and Tavi Gevinson — also is produced by Rudin and helmed by Shapiro, in a run currently set to end in January.

Cannavale Recives Two SAG Award Nominations

Bobby Cannavale excels at comedy and drama… And, he’s got two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations to prove it.

During the announcement of nominees for the 19th SAG Awards, the 42-year-old half-Cuban American actor was recognized as part of the ensembles of two cable shows.

Cannavale, a Primetime Emmy nominee this year for his guest-starring role on Modern Family, is nominated in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series for his role as Gyp Rosetti on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire.

He’s also nominated in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for his role as Dr. Mike Cruz on Showtime’s Nurse Jackie.

But Cannavele isn’t the only Hispanic nominee…

Modern Family’s Sofia Vergara, AskMen.com’s most desirable Latina in the world, has been nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series category, as well as in the Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series, along with her television son Rico Rodriguez.

Vergara, Rodriguez and the rest of the Modern Family cast have won the award for the last two years.

Louis C.K. has earned a SAG Award nod for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series for his starring role on FX’s Louie, the latest in a long string of nominations for his work on the series.

Like Louis C.K., Skyfall’s Javier Bardem has also picked up yet another nod for this outstanding work this year. The 43-year-old Spanish actor is nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role for his villainous role in the latest Bond film.

Other Latino nominees include Nurse Jackie’s Jake Cannavale; Breaking Bad’s Steven Michael Quezada; Glee’s Samuel Larsen, Naya Rivera and Lea Michele; Homeland’s Morena Baccarin; and The Office’s Oscar Nuñez.

The Screen Actors Guild Award — The Actor — is presented for outstanding performances in motion pictures and primetime television in 2012, including the distinctive ensemble awards and the stunt ensemble honors.

Recipients of the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will be announced at ceremonies on Sunday, January 27, simulcast live on TNT and TBS at 8:00 pm ET/5:00 pm PT.
