The 35-year-old Puerto Rican reggaeton singer is set to headline the Billboard Sounds Showcase during Billboard’s Latin Music Week in Las Vegas.

The event will take place from 9:00 pm to 11:00 pm on Wednesday, April 24 at Drai’s After Hours.

Joining J Alvarez, best known for hit singles like “Junto Al Amanecer,” “La Pregunta,” and “Esa Boquita,“will be a wave of old-school and new-school reggaeton artists, including Nio GarciaCasper MagicoMC CejaDJ Nelsonand Myke Towers.

Returning for its 29th year, Latin Music Week features Q&A sessions and panels, including its signature “Star Q&As,” as well as panels focusing on streaming, videos, both mainstream and Latin collaborations and more. Registration to the conference will give attendees access to three days of panels, one-on-one sessions and showcases, plus tickets to the Billboard Latin Music Awards, which will air live on Telemundo on April 25.

The clip, which premiered exclusively on Billboard.com, was filmed in Miami.

Directed by Ulysses Terrero, the video shows Alvarez looking for a way to attract a policewoman who thought he was a drug dealer.

Martin to Perform at First-Ever Calibash Las Vegas

The 44-year-old Puerto Rican singer/actor is set to perform at a special edition of Calibash in Las Vegas at the Hakkasan night club.

Calibash, the multi-artist show that’s become the signature event for urban Latin music in the U.S., will celebrate its 10th anniversary with the special edition in Sin City.

Calibash Las Vegas will take place on January 26 at the T-Mobile Arena and will feature performances by Martin, Don OmarWisinNicky Jam and Residente.

The huge span of acts highlights just how diverse the genre has become. On the one hand is reggaeton icon Don Omar, who this year celebrated the 10th anniversary of his seminal album King of Kings; Residente, formerly of Calle 13, who espouses an alternative approach to rap with socially-minded lyrics; current chart-toppers Wisin and Nicky Jam, and pop act Ricky Martin, who most recently reached the top of the charts with “Vente Pa’Ca,” his collaboration with Maluma.

Other confirmed acts to date include Zion & Lennox, Pipe BuenoFarruko, J AlvarezPlan B, Nely “El Arma Secreta”, OsunaDe la Ghetto, AlmightlyArcangel, Gente de Zona, ChacalOsmani Garcia, Divan and CNCO.

Calibash will once again be produced by SBS Entertainment and presented by LaMusica. This marks the first time the show will take place in Vegas, and will also be the first time a multi-artist concert will take place at the T-Mobile Arena, also the site of this year’s Latin Grammys. Cruz’s “No Vuelve” Reaches No. 1 on Billboard’s Tropical Songs Chart

The Dominican-American singer’s latest single “No Vuelve” skips 3-1 on Billboard’s Tropical Songs chart, giving him his second chart-topper.

Cruz first led the list in 2015 when “Ay Amiga” spent one week at the top.

The bachata singer is currently recording his forthcoming album, Divina Voluntad, which will include “No Vuelve.”

He recently announced that his next single, “Sin Miedo,” featuring Ne-Yo and J Alvarez, will be released this summer.

Lafourcade to Perform at This Year’s Latin Grammy Awards Show

Natalia Lafourcade is certain to take the stage at this year’s Latin Grammys.

The 31-year-old Mexican pop-rock singer-songwriter, a five-time nominee for this year’s awards show, including nods for Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Record of the Year, has joined the list of performers at the Latin Grammys on November 19.

Lafourcade, a three-time Latin Grammy winner and two-time Grammy nominee, will take the stage of the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. There’s no word on what song she’ll perform.

She joins a growing roster of performers that includes Julión ÁlvarezSilvestre Dangond and Nicky Jam, along with a special performance by this year’s Latin Recording Academy Person of the Year Roberto Carlos.

Julión Álvarez y Su Norteño Banda and Silvestre Dangond each received one nomination. In the best banda album category, Julión Álvarez y Su Norteño Banda are nominated for El Aferrado. Dangond is nominated with Lucas Dangond in the best cumbia/vallenato album category for Sigo Invicto.

Nicky Jam has two nominations for best urban performance: “Una Cita (Remix)” with Alkilados featuring J Alvarez & El Roockie, and “El Perdón” with Enrique Iglesias.

Previously announced performers include current nominees ChocQuibTownJ BalvinNatalia JiménezJuan Luis GuerraMatisse and Raquel Sofía.

The show, co-hosted by Devious Maids star Roselyn Sanchez and Mexican model and actress Jacqueline Bracamontes, will air live November 19 on Univision.

Barullo Releases “Disfruta la Vida,” The First Single From His Debut Solo Album

The Spanish singer of gypsy origins, a Latin Grammy-winner, has released his first solo single.

Entitled “Disfruta la Vida,” the track features Flex and J Alvarez.

It’s the first single from Barullo’s debut album as a solo artist, simply titled Barullo.

The track was recorded in Miami, with all three artists actually sharing studio time at one point in the process.

“My roots are in flamenco,” says Barullo. But living in Miami for several years, opened up the doors to other kinds of music.

“It’s a mix of Spanish music, pop, urban and reggaeton,” he says. “This song, like its title, is all about enjoying life.”

Barullo is releasing his album independently.

He was previously part of duo called Barullo, with whom he released an early album several years back. He has also worked as a songwriter and producer. And in 2007, he was as a featured artist on salsero Oscar D’Leon’s single “La Canto.”

Plan B to Headline The Best Latino Urbano Concert at Madison Square Garden

The Puerto Rican reggaeton duo, consisting of Chencho and Maldy, will headline The Best Latino Urbano concert at Madison Square Garden.

Appearances by Daddy Yankee, J Alvarez, Arcangel, Tony Dize, Alexis y Fido, and Dominican artists El Mayor, Secreto and El Alfa have also been announced for the February 6 all-ages show.

Plan B’s August release Love & Sex, on Pina Records, was a major player in the past year’s full-blown reggaeton comeback, bringing the urban beat back after a period in which reggaeton superstars had detoured into dance pop.

Love & Sex, which some fans have deemed as important to the genre as Daddy Yankee’s seminal Barrio Fino, is at No. 4 on the latest Billboard Latin Rhythm Albums chart. Alvarez and Alexis y Fido are among the guests on that album.

Plan B performed for an audience of a reported 16,000 at San Juan’s Coliseo José Miguel Agrelot in November.

Felix Cabrera, who produced Romeo Santos’ two-night run at Yankee Stadium last July, is the promoter of The Best Latino Urbano concert.

J Alvarez to Perform at the Calibash Festival in January

J Alvarez is bringing his preguntas to Southern California…

The 30-year-old Puerto Rican reggaetón artist and “La Pregunta” singer will perform at the Calibash festival, which is set for January 24 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

This year’s lineup includes PitbullDon Omar, Carlos Vives, Tego Calderon, WisinPlan BFarruko3BallMTYGente de Zona and Maluma.

The lineup joins some of the most established Latin music acts with a strong representation of emerging artists who have become familiar names on the charts, including Alvarez, Farruko (“Passion Wine”), and Gente de Zona (“Bailando”).

The festival should be a magnet for the bilingual young Latino crowd.

Calibash, billed as “the leading urban Latin music festival in the world,” is presented by SBS Entertainment, AEG Live and Mega 96.3 FM. The latest edition of the 7-year-old festival was previously scheduled to take place on Nov. 22.

SBS moved the Calibash date ahead when iHeartMedia launched its own Latin mega concert, the iHeartRadio Fiesta Latina, on that same November date.

J Balvin to Participate in the 2014 Latin Grammy Street Party Concerts

J Balvin is taking it to the streets to get the Latin Grammy party started…

The 29-year-old Colombian reggaeton singer, whose full name is José Álvaro Osorio Balvín, is among the musicians who will participate in the Latin Recording Academy’s 2014 Latin Grammy street party concerts, which kick off on October 5 in Chicago’s Plaza Garibaldi.

Balvin, who was featured on the Colombian version of “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke featuring Pharrell Williams & T.I., is best known for his songs “Yo Te Lo Dije” and “Tranquila.”

The Latin Grammy street parties have been held for the past 12 years and are presented by the Latin Academy (LARAS), together with Univision.

In addition to Balvin, artists confirmed to perform during the series, which will be played in five cities, include Conjunto Primavera, J Alvarez, Los Rieleros del Norte, Los Tucanes de Tijuana, Noel Torres and Voz de Mando.

Along with a stop in Chicago, the series will also visit Dallas, Los Angeles and Phoenix before wrapping up in Hialeah (Miami) on November 9 with performances by Balvin, Alvarez and Victoria, among others, in the streets of Hialeah.

The Latin Grammy Street parties are free and lead up to the 15th annual Latin Grammys, airing live on November 20 on Univision from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Optimo Earns First No. 1 on the Billboard Charts

It’s a case of no pain, no gain for Optimo…

The Bachata singer has notched his first Billboard chart-topper, as his single “Duele” rises 3-1 on the Tropical Airplay chart.

The song is the first official single from his set Amor De Guerra, which will be released on June 17.

The song grows by 32 percent in plays, with WXDJ Miami leading in spins (68) during the chart’s tracking week.

A recently released remix of the song featuring urban star J Alvarez has helped champion it on-air.

Optimo previously existed as a band under different formations, but has since been continued as a solo effort by vocalist Alixandro R. Sanchez under the same moniker.
